  • Fenian continuity forever!

  • This is a real nice-sounding version of this wonderful old song. You generate a genuine, true-to-genre acoustic feel to this performance. Good on you. P.S. - have you ever heard of a now-defunct Aussie Bush Band called The Cobbers .. they were quite well-known around the shop in the 1970s. They did a great authentic version of this song, too. I'd be glad to send it your way, just for your casual interest. I have it on vinyl LP. Once I get the YT tech & learn how to do uploads properly (soon).

  • @colindominy Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I have'nt checked this for a while. I started another account called "ausfolk " which I've spent most of my time keeping updated.. Yes I have heard of the Cobbers back in the 1970s.

I f you can put the song up on YouTube. I'll listen to it with great interest. Best Wishes. SS

  • Could you send me the lyrics to this please?

  • Dear washingtonboy. I don't have the written lyrics. The song was sung from memory. Just download the video and learn from listening..

Best wishes. S.. Mc Ginnises Hat

Things are changing but the ignorance of third & fourth generation Irish Aussies is at times disturbing Irish Americans know more....,

  • Anyone knows a fast pop/folk music song when the singer sings: "Ai ai jubi jubi yay! Ai ai jubi jubi yay! Wir singt ai ai jubbi jubbi ai ai jubbi jubbi ai ai jubbi jubbi yay" or something in the chorus?

  • Here in Seattle the tune of this song was lifted for Ivar's "Surrounded by Acres of Clams" advertising way back in the day- so when I heard this song I instantly connected with it.

When I looked up the wikipedia article for it, I was entranced. I'm surprised it hasn't been made into a movie yet. This is a truly legendary story!

  • The tune used is an old Irish Tune called

    O Roishin the Bow.

You should find the music on some of the Irish Traditional Folk music websites.

    Best Wishes ausfolk

  • Yes. "Boys of Kilmichael'another great song

  • Great song about a great story. 'Boys of Kilmichael' shares this tune

  • The Catalpa 2 is an updated video for the Catalpa prison escape.

  • I really liked the way the story was written over the lovely, old sepia-type photograph, Sean. It is truly an eye-catching picture. It was good to learn a little about the history of the song and it sounded great.

  • Great! Let's have more!

  • See Video response from ausfolk. The Ned Kelly story. Ned Kelly the son of a poor Irish convict Australia's most well known Bushranger and Outlaw.

  • Thank's for your comment lotuscassidy.

Yes, there were 2 movies made about Ned Kelly one in the last couple of years starring Heath Ledger and one starring Mick Jagger back in the 1970s.The earlier one had some really great music. Ned Kelly is sort of Australia's Jesse James so there are lots of great song about him. Best Wishes. Sean

  • Cool tune, I like Australia....My song "Goin Back to New Orleans" made top ten Indie on ILR there last year. There was another great story from there portrayed in a movie, I believe called "Ned Kelly"

    Thanks, Lotus
