Would you be able to let a pet fox have free roam of the house when your out? Or would they totally rip up everything while your out. Or is it just a stage, like when dogs are younger?
@austintoebosch nuuuuuu! no, no, bad idea! Foxes are very mischievous, and should only be indoors under close supervision... unless you have like one particular room closed off for him/her... and ideally have a pet door to the outdoor cage in that room's exterior wall.
he is so beautiful its amazing he doesnt find the camera a threat? i would love a fox they are my fav animals aspeically arctic foxes there are so many lucky people in the world
@FinleyPedrina92 Is that a natural sounds foxes make? Because he sounds like he's in pain or do they just similar to dogs in pain when foxes are quite happy?
@anthony15601 A fox will bite, more than a dog typically does, in play and also in self defense. Foxes are more moody and much more food aggressive than dogs, and hate to be held or restrained in general. Any of these circumstances can result in a nasty bite, but it's not "turning" on you... it's merely Cause and Effect... it's self defense when the fox feels threatened. After said bite, the fox is still just as affectionate in greeting you and happy to see you.
so I'm curious, have you tried housebreaking Ron? You know, either by setting up a litter box (like cats) or teaching it to do its business outside (like dogs)?
Ron used to live indoors only, but was very messy and destructive. He did use a litter box, but only 70-80% of the time. Foxes will always mark as they have a very strong territorial marking instinct it seems.
@foxalbiazul Can you not get the scent gland removed? Totally different animal, I know, but my cousin had a skunk which was descented...or are the foxes spraying urine? I do know they have a scent gland...which I'm told doesn't actually smell terrible (but I could be wrong here). Also - will he jump up in your lap and sleep there? Does he sleep in bed with you like a dog?
@smiling0wolves dont you dare take one from the wild, it's dangerous and rude. get one from a breeder. i strongly suggest you get do your homework and KNOW that you can care for it. think it through because it's a great responsibility to care for exotic animals. so please, PLEASE know that foxes take ALOT of love and care as pets. and when you KNOW that you are ready for a fox as a pet, check out tiny tracks exotic animals. they breed beautiful foxes and other exotic animals as pets.
@smiling0wolves ALSO! you MUST check your states exotic animal laws. don't look online for the laws, go strait to animal control or shelters and they can tell you what you want to know or tell you who to contact for that information. I'm almost sure you'll need a permit to own one. Be sure to get ALL permits required as well as locate a vet that KNOWS how to treat foxes. The vet is the most important to find. be ready to shell out big bucks for your fox's health. please be a responsible owner.
Since he now lives in his large outdoor habitat, I no longer walk him... a harness was never an option since he even chewed off the collars I've given him!
I don't understand why people are so afraid to legalize keeping pets like foxs,coyotes,wolf's.
Fuck what they say about " It's in there blood to be angry" If there born from birth adn raised with humans, there would be no need to fear any of them, Only if you piss them off ofcourse, and this goes with any type of creature. You're own dog can turn on you.
It's all about favoritism from the fucking goverment, nothing more nothing less.
I want a fucking monkey. unfortunely its ilegaland a wolf....
I'm in the market to adopt a red fox. Found a breeder but my state they're illegal so I have to wait till I move again. I have a coy dog already but he needs a friend
well he definately wagged his tail, maybe he thinks he's a dog. It has been scientifically proven that with a few generations foxes can make good affectionate pets, so I see no reason why this captive bred hand raised fox wouldn't be. Putting his ears back is actually a sign of submission (this isn't a bad way, it is just his way of saying he knows you are in charge) if he was feeling threatened he would have bitten you and have to say he looks really content.
that's because this is his summer coat... you are more familiar with pictures and videos of foxes in their winter coats... when they are so fuzzy poofy they look fat xD
My Grandparents used to keep a red fox. It was given to them by a farmer, who found Fox Hunters who had tresspassed and destroyed the den, killing the mother. The young fox woudn't have survived of course on its own. It was never really trainable but did play and got along well with the pet dogs. It also was an escape artist, having an urge for the wild, but lived a long time.
The fact that there is a whole room of the house specially barracked off for the fox should tell you all something. This is a wild opportunistic scavenger. It will tear your house into pieces during an 8 hour work shift. Look at the walls in that room. If you ever got mice in your walls with a fox shut in the house you would come home to $5,000 in remodelling work, for beginners.
Probably better off setting a monkey loose in your house.
very true, hence my personal experience shows how important it is for every fox owner to have a good size outdoor pen/habitat where they can dig in real dirt, chase insects and devour small trees!
a USA raised pet fox costs around $500; you can most likely find one in your state, if your state allows pet foxes. More important than where you get one, is preparing your house/yard for a pet fox... from my personaly experience, you MUST build/have built a large habitat specially fox escape-proof.
We had a pet fox called Jackie, he used to love those caramel chocolate buttons. There was 3 of us kids and he was the best thing we ever had. It certainly was a great experience
the dust you see stuck on the floor is from the big litter box he used when he was in this room... it was a temporary living area, until I moved him into his large outdoor habitat, and also built a pet door accessible living room cage with ceramic tile floor... as you can see, wood flooring and foxes don't mix!
He has doubtlessly become calmer and more docile as he is getting older! He was most 'wild' when I first got him at 6 weeks old, back when he would not even let me touch him!
A bond of this sort lasts a lifetime... though a fox will always be his mischievous, silly, moody self. <3
@foxalbiazul I'd love one. I have been toying with the idea of adopting one of the Domesticated Silver Foxes from Russia. I have been in contact with the woman who runs the program. The next ones available will be around next August, and they coast $1500, with an extra $1000 for all to vet docs, and travelling etc. But I don't think anyone in the UK owns one yet...
@foxalbiazul Really? Well they are only $1500 from the breeder, so if you did it yourself, the only extras you'd pay would be documents and travel etc - they told me this was around $1000. That company is just a business, I guess they need to make a profit, so charge $6000, but with that, I suppose they do all the work for you...
you raise a kit from very young, and that's how you form this sort of special bond with them! They will bond with more people and be more sociable if raised around many persons... I live alone, so Ron never socialized with others other than me really.
there's nothing wrong with domestication as long as they are accessible to a good health, physical activity, good state of mind, and affection. Don't forget humans, dogs and cats used to live in the wild.
Very cute. I'm curious, is he ever vocal? I used to live in a rural area with a lot of foxes and the cry of a red fox is quite chilling in my opinion. I'm not sure I could get used to it if I had a pet fox that called a lot.

It sure used to! But I've now finally got him trained to play more gently. Though what you see in this particular video does not hurt at all... he is just barely holding my fingers here.
Hey, you got a real beautiful fox there. I've seen a couple of your videos some months back, but what made you decide to want to own a tamed fox? I can tell in this video that he's showing all kinds of affection to you and I'm rather fond of foxes myself.
He's adorable xD I wish I had one, but then again, it's better not. Is it hard to train/tame him? ^_^ He really seems to love you, it's adorable <3 He goes out, now?
My concern is once you grow tired of his annoying little whine you may stop caring for this beautiful animal. It will be incapable of fending for itself in the wild, since you have chosen to make efforts domesticate it. I hope you are consistent with caring for this animal as it obviously has no other choice at this point.
id been very curious about a fox on our land, He doesnt seem afraid of me at all (in fact more then a large handful of times id been able to walk right up on him within 10 feet), the dogs dont even seem to mind him at all. very pretty and been here for a long time. (not that i care to try to tame him, but it is a curious thing.)
It's very true. Foxes tail swishing and ears back is a sign of either agression or happiness. Same with dogs. If a dog's tail is wagging, don't assume it's friendly D;
Oh, yeah...That fox is TERRIBLY abused...That's why he stays as close to his human as he can...Come on, you idjits, GET A LIFE...I'd have a fox in a New York minute if I could...
He gets all emotional when I come home xD But after greeting me for several minutes, he runs off to continue his exploration/guard duty of his outdoor yard xD See the video on my profile for outdoor footage.
What people don't realize, is how small and tiny fox really ARE! They are so poofy and fluffy in the winter, that when they shed their winter coat, they are sooo skinny without all the fuzz!!
@foxalbiazul You love and care for him thats awsome! your not some abusive prick and its clear that you are found of your pet. Did your fox chew up that room?
lol, yeah. Ron is from a professional pet breeder; foxes have been captive bred and hand raised for many generations.
Yes, what you see in this room is the reason he now lives in caged-only areas... a large outdoor pen, and a small air conditioned plexiglas cage in my living room.
Don't you know that dogs and foxes, etc interpret high pitched voices as praise and excitement, but lower pitched voices as disapproval and fear inducing?
I think Foxes are adorable. They have the cute orange fur and cute black legs and paws and ears and tails. They look so stylish! Buy your a fox a metal helmet with a speaker phone on it and call him Commander Fox like from star fox.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nice existence huh? Just a great place to find an animal that was never meant to be kept like this! Another form of animal abuse! But they are not pets. How would you like to exist like this? Free roam of the house? NO! Does it go outside to potty? No! Do you take it for a walk? No! Does it sleep with you? No! Fox whine and act submissive in the wild also. All that means is the Fox knows you are the food bringer of coarse he will act submissive. I can not believe how many people are so selfish!
@Gail419 You're kidding right? Just because you watched something on animal planet doesn't make you an expert on animal behaviorism. And of course you show up and hoot and holler about how "mistreated" this poor fox is (news flash, he isn't. if he had a merely submissive attitude rather then a friendly one, he wouldn't allow the man to rub his stomach). Why don't you go take this next door to any of the neighbors that I'm sure you have that bought a dog and treat it with true neglect?
He has free roam of a zoo-habitat size outdoor pen that is larger than my entire house, and pet door access 24/7 to an air conditioned area of his own in my living room.
Pet foxes have been bred for decades for tameness, and even Nat. Geo, did a major article on the most advanced fox breeders, in their March 2011 issue...
Nice existence, huh... lashing out at people on the internet, making unfounded accusations and ranting like prick... enjoy your life...
Try to ignore comments like that. Most people fail to remember that all of the pets that we have today were all wild animals before they were domesticated. For example, all dogs started off as wolves. Bunnies are wild. Etc. What separates wild animals from domestic animals are only really their environment and their behavior.
Btw...Ron is adorable! It's great that he makes such a great companion.
@foxalbiazul you tell him dude! If any animal is domesticated within the first year of life, they will make great pets and will do fine in captivity. any domesticated canine, including foxes, wag there tail and get a "Smile" when they are happy and adore attention. you are an intelligent breeder my friend.

ScionCrow 6 months ago
He's adorable xD I wish I had one, but then again, it's better not. Is it hard to train/tame him? ^_^ He really seems to love you, it's adorable <3 He goes out, now?
Naessly 6 months ago
is that the fox whining or a baby crying?
TheRaver101 6 months ago
Does he answer to your name when you call him? or is he like a cat?
Jumpfuk 6 months ago
@Jumpfuk
He never comes when called xD very catlike in that sense.
foxalbiazul 6 months ago
My concern is once you grow tired of his annoying little whine you may stop caring for this beautiful animal. It will be incapable of fending for itself in the wild, since you have chosen to make efforts domesticate it. I hope you are consistent with caring for this animal as it obviously has no other choice at this point.

I've had him for over 3 years, and I spent fairly close to 2 thousand dollars building his specially designed outdoor habitat.... fyi

id been very curious about a fox on our land, He doesnt seem afraid of me at all (in fact more then a large handful of times id been able to walk right up on him within 10 feet), the dogs dont even seem to mind him at all. very pretty and been here for a long time. (not that i care to try to tame him, but it is a curious thing.)
staticminded 6 months ago
@staticminded If you do Ever try to Tame You must figure out if your state alow's foxes as pets without a license
But mostly You should not tame you can get them at a exotic animal shop

He is an affectionate one, isn't he? ^w^
ShadyKitsune 6 months ago
It's very true. Foxes tail swishing and ears back is a sign of either agression or happiness. Same with dogs. If a dog's tail is wagging, don't assume it's friendly D;

My old dog used to put her front leg/paw on top of my arm when I pet her too! Great video.

What people don't realize, is how small and tiny fox really ARE! They are so poofy and fluffy in the winter, that when they shed their winter coat, they are sooo skinny without all the fuzz!!
foxalbiazul 7 months ago
@foxalbiazul You love and care for him thats awsome! your not some abusive prick and its clear that you are found of your pet. Did your fox chew up that room?
wolf324 7 months ago
@wolf324
lol, yeah. Ron is from a professional pet breeder; foxes have been captive bred and hand raised for many generations.
Yes, what you see in this room is the reason he now lives in caged-only areas... a large outdoor pen, and a small air conditioned plexiglas cage in my living room.
foxalbiazul 7 months ago
hi!! I just love foxes and I plan to have my own as soon as possible but, I don't know what I would do to train them, feed, ect

Don't you know that dogs and foxes, etc interpret high pitched voices as praise and excitement, but lower pitched voices as disapproval and fear inducing?

Nice existence huh? Just a great place to find an animal that was never meant to be kept like this! Another form of animal abuse! But they are not pets. How would you like to exist like this? Free roam of the house? NO! Does it go outside to potty? No! Do you take it for a walk? No! Does it sleep with you? No! Fox whine and act submissive in the wild also. All that means is the Fox knows you are the food bringer of coarse he will act submissive. I can not believe how many people are so selfish!
Gail419 7 months ago
@Gail419 You're kidding right? Just because you watched something on animal planet doesn't make you an expert on animal behaviorism. And of course you show up and hoot and holler about how "mistreated" this poor fox is (news flash, he isn't. if he had a merely submissive attitude rather then a friendly one, he wouldn't allow the man to rub his stomach). Why don't you go take this next door to any of the neighbors that I'm sure you have that bought a dog and treat it with true neglect?
tyfranco360 7 months ago
@Gail419
Nice existence, huh... lashing out at people on the internet, making unfounded accusations and ranting like prick... enjoy your life...
foxalbiazul 7 months ago 43
@foxalbiazul
It's great that he makes such a great companion.
panikeheart 7 months ago 2
@foxalbiazul you tell him dude! If any animal is domesticated within the first year of life, they will make great pets and will do fine in captivity. any domesticated canine, including foxes, wag there tail and get a "Smile" when they are happy and adore attention. you are an intelligent breeder my friend.
