I used to love Abbie Hoffman and romanticized the 60's alot but all one has to do is take a look at what's been built around us. The police are militarized, the prisons are privatized, the government is bought, and it was their generation that sold us out. That peace and love shit won't accomplish anything. Violent revolution is the only way out. They really thought getting high and having orgies set them apart from the establishment, they fell right into their trap, fucking fools!
Hoffman was fed.-subsidized scum: just like the rest of the "leaders." His job was to make protest seem futile; just like the "leaders" of OWS today. If it looks popular & gets lotsa press, you can bet the gov.'s behind it.
Why do you think Hoffman committed suicide? 'Cause he was depressed? No, because he was a traitor to the cause. No different than Palin, Cain, & Biden today: traitors all.
There were young people in the 60' who didn't “get it”. Brainwashed by their parents, church, school and society. They believed everything they were told, never question and never rebelled - they had no balls. They also never got laid because all of the really fine chicks were freaks. These people were a sorry bunch. There's something familiar about the people here who are knocking Abbie and the 60's counterculture. They lack the wisdom to study within context but they sure do know how to hate.
Google Jason Li, Vancouver riots- same pointless violence created by same unfulfilled and country hating elite Americans, only thing different is in the 60s they hid behind "causes" so they could get their rocks off beating cops, whereas now the cop would taze them till their brains were coming out their ears....
I was named after Abbie Hoffman. It's kinda funny when my parents told that when I was little, because I was: "You name named me after a guy?!" lol! I'm fine with it now and I am totally proud of being named after someone so extordinary and fighting in something he believed in like Abbie.
@nilbud You're a retard. Advice from you is more worthless than a late 2001 Enron stock. Make sure not to slide on the drool on your floor, I'm afraid you'd crack your landlord's concrete floor you wheezing fat fuck.
@TheCarambah Well hello there I don't recognize you but you must get that a lot. Please continue to project your own weakness and fears across the net its hilarious. You've made what's referred to as an unforced error but the words probably just confuse you, yes they do yes they do. Who's a good boy, yes you are, yes you are. Now get back to licking your balls and humping strangers legs.
@nilbud ou're a bit stupid. Your opinion is worthless as you are incapable of rational thought or analysis. It's laughable in its own way. Now pay more attention and try to think a bit more and then go and learn some stuff and keep working away at it for a few decades and then you'll still be a brainless cunt.
@TheCarambah I see you've learned to cut and paste from your betters. Plagiarism is probably as close to creativity as you'll ever get. However as I told you before education is important.
@nilbud Indeed. You should however get that wheezing checked out. Being obese can't help your condition. We wouldn't want you to croak at.... actually.. carry on.
@nilbud You've made what's referred to as an unforced error but the words probably just confuse you, yes they do yes they do. Who's a good boy, yes you are, yes you are. Now get back to licking your balls and humping strangers legs.
I like how all these people on here are almost put this crazy guy on a pedestal. There is a difference between having fun and just being a total idiot. This man wanted to replace workers with robots and then have everyone sit around; he wanted the right to fuck where ever he wanted to (not arguing with that one), and the right to pee where ever.
Chicago in '68 was a giant cluster fuck on all sides.
I could not be the successful lawyer I am today without the mind opening approach taught to us by Abie and Jerry Rubin. I miss them for the power of their theater and their love for life. Juries understand a case when we present the facs with power and passion. It's nice being rich, but I miss the intensity and potential of the era when Abie and Jerry were around to inspire us.
I agree with a lot of what Hoffman and the Yippies were trying to do, but honestly, he just seems like a bit of a dick and his tactics were never going to be treated seriously. Face the facts, if everyone became a Yippie the world would have turned to shit. Plus some of their tactics, like Hoffman's rant in the middle of The Who's set at Woodstock was just ridiculous in it's timing and place - no wonder Pete Townshend whacked him with his guitar.
he was a great man. crazy, but a great man. thank you for putting this up for America to see. It really teaches the world. Also helped my project! ^_^
Abbie Hoffman... a fine American who reminded many of what freedom is all about.
"Revolution For The Hell of It", and "Steal This Book" provoked many of my younger years, and his words still resonate.
What's interesting to think about is that this video was shot a few months BEFORE the '68 Democratic convention, and puts all of the Mayor Daley vs The Chicago Seven stuff in a bit of perspective.
P.S. Eldredge Cleaver was also a Presidential candidate on the ballot that year.
Abbie continues to be loved and respected by an innumerable amount of people. At least in this fashion there exists a form of constructive unification :):) Those of us who respect Abbie Hoffman should keep him alive through spreading knowledge and understanding of what he believed in. It is the very ideals he held that can help heal this country of its otherwise corrupt and suppressive tendencies.
What we really need is a 60's type "movement". here & NOW. Weather it would accomplish anything, I don't know. I do now that it would have a better chance than doing virtually nothing, like now. Unfortunately, due to the over-emasculation & pussification of the population, I don't think enough (not all) people have the balls for mass protests & movements, like they did in the 60's. Also, people are more materialistic, lazy & greedy & due to communications technology, less social.
@SeattleLA But maybe my opinion is a bit off. Look at what's happened since? The Occupy Wall St. protests. Granted they aren't on the same level/size as the 60's protests, but it's a start. As more and more people lose their jobs, homes, savings, etc, (and you can bet they will) to corporate & government corruption, greed & malfeasance, etc, you may see more & larger protests. If/when that happens, with 1 exception (the rich get richer....) I am not sure what the ultimate outcome will be.
@gjc82071 Hi. Yes, I think that certain aspects of the 60s should return. The point I made about your comment was a lot about the materialism and greed of today, hindering anyone's attempt to spearhead a vital movement. Yet, something can and should be done and very soon. Politics will never save us. Good people rising up, taking action, with kindness and results, will. I certainly do not like the radical part of the 60s.
@HomespunLace And, just imagine the level of organization that could have been attained in the 60's, if the protesters had internet, cell phones, blackberries, etc. Now that people DO have that, the will is gone.
@gjc82071 What you have said is very intelligent and especially true (although unfortunate). I think our technology definitely has a lot to do with the lack of will that is so predominant today. The need to seek out interpersonal interactions is becoming obsolete, since communication is so readily available through electronics. Sadly, I believe that this, intern, causes an almost fear-like response to the social intercommunication needed to take a stand for what was once so important to so many.
@gjc82071@HomespunLace And, just imagine the level of organization that could have been attained in the 60's, if the protesters had internet, cell phones, blackberries, etc. Now that people DO have that, the will is gone.
