haha why look for mpg in a Wrangler, i have a 1990 Wrangler 4.2L carbureted 5 speed on 32s, and the carb is literally dumping, not spraying, dumping gasoline into the engine, bogs on take off- $100+ fix for 12+mpg, but right now im getting around 5.7mpg.
My dad use to have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler for daily driving to work, never using it offroad and he had horrible mpg, like he guessed under 10mpg!!! He gave it up last winter and got a Porsche Cayman for his daily driving work car
i got a couple more....1. if you have big offroading tires, get a second set of wheels and tires that are for the streets. 2. ha, make this your weekend warrior not a daily driver
Finally, replace old filters (fuel, air) with the new ones. Open windows or use just ventilator instead of using it with AC on. Lose all unnecessary weight (you don't have to take everything you have with you when driving to work), vacuum clean the interior. Check if all oils and other liquids are sufficient.
Use summer tires in summer and winter tires in winter (and not all-weather tires). SUV is not a racecar (usually) so you don't have to accelerate roughly till you have to hit the brakes. :)
btw, if you're in 15MPG vehicle (city driving) is it possible to pay like it was a 33 MPG car? Why yes it is. Install a natural-gas (LPG) system. Sooner or later it will pay off.
Don't risk with buthanol, ethanol or other kind of alcohols unless you really know that the engine is compatible.
On diesel cars you can fill biodiesel or even cooking oil and it doesn't require any engine modifications at all (unless you're driving in lower than 40°F temperature zones).
@Maserati7200 Biobutanol holds a lot of promise. It has a lower energy density than gasoline, but I'm not sure about the octane. Sounds like a lot more testing needs to be done to fully assess its compatibility.
One of these days when I have some spare cash, I'm gunna buy a cheap FlexFuel car or truck and get a permit to put a still in the shed ... :)
My Grandpa has a 2006 Wrangler that you would call a "Barbie Jeep." The thing has never even seen rain. He drives his Cadillac when the weather is anything but sunny.

Higher tire pressure (but not too high) enhances fuel economy but reduces traction.
Mud probably looks cool but clean car has better aerodynamics than dirty.
Manual is better than auto (or at least in older models) in terms on both acceleration and fuel consumption.
Sometimes better quality fuel improves MPG and also it is better for the engine.

You never use your vehicles manual to judge the air pressure in your tires. Always go by the TIRE manufacturers specs.

Will this whell cover fit a jeep patriot ?
maximefcom 4 months ago
I drive a Jeep Patriot. What you said is good for any car, even me with the little 2.4L. Being gentle with the throttle really do a difference.
maximefcom 4 months ago
May as well put a diesel hybrid in it. Otherwise, as far as highway mpg, tow it.
