  • Awesome Scott !!

  • YEAARHH YOU CAN DOO IT MAYAHN,

  • Yep again..same solo from 82'. It is sick tho

  • It's like porn for the ears.

  • i just l noticed how this is his solo from 1982 lol

  • I bet he mentally subdivides into 64th notes.

  • Wickedly awesome chops

  • I liked the part where he played on the snare

  • haha i met this guy at my best friends drumline championships. hes so cool.

  • This piece is really similar to the piece he played at the 1982 DCI. He is an amazing drummer. Go ScoJo!

  • I cant believe ScoJo is going to be my snare solo judge in 2 days.aha

  • This is terrible.

  • @bixwok you do realize he is almost if not already 50 years old right?

  • this guy is superhuman

  • I think it's much better than his 1982 solo. Some of the singles on that solo are just slightly off, but of course, great. This seems more solid. Maybe it's a combination of the snare drums that are manufactured now too.

  • For those of you looking for a true pro on battery purcussion, you're looking at one right now..

  • pause it, play it and keep hitting 1

  • Comment removed

  • 1:12 the cleanest buzz rolls ever. i cried a little.

  • Thats it....i quit lol...i just saw somebody from the starship land and kill that snare....totally disrespecful shit i just saw lol....hang that snare drum up and thats a wrap..

  • hey... thats the same solo he did in 1982...

  • ScoJo's wrists are bigger than my entire body...

  • why arent the BD snares tuned like that!

  • he did et mang

  • 0:15

the funniest seconds of my life....

  • now we all know why the BDs are so good

  • scott johnson looks like a hick in this video loolololol

  • 1:45 scott tries tries to not be a god for once...but failed. who agrees? XD

  • lol OH GAWD!!...i keep replaying 0:17 !!!...my chest hurt from laughin so much!

  • old man hands over there has more chops than I ever will. sadly

  • I want Scojo's mojo.

  • hes rockin tha drum and that mullet!

  • scott johnson is a druming insparation to all. and if you beg to differ you can kiss my ass

  • Banished vrs. Scott Johnson please

  • @cddrummer96 No disrespect to Banished but Scott has what we call "Man Hands". Scott can still hang with these kids today because he keeps up with the times. Hes a cool dude with NO ego. Thats Cali for ya.

  • What is the title of the solo?

  • *firecreackers going off 1:18* ??LIKE? I THINK YESS! lol

  • I would love to see this on a high speed cam. OMG.

  • who cares

  • tom float put the blue devil's drumline on the map... basically all of dci today and since is still influenced by float's innovation and genius.

  • There should be a time signature,

    sco (over) jo

  • i was there. it was more awesome than any video can convey.

  • lolz 0:20 xDD

  • dang he still got it.

  • WHO ON EARTH DISLIKED THIS VIDEO!??!!

    WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?

  • @phantomofguilt someone that never did drum corps. Probably some douche that said, "Nick Cannon can do that" lol

  • this vid had me constantly saying "wtf did he just do...?"

  • 1:44 " here it is" -classic

  • well Jeff Queen is just better than any one else so who really cares

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA yeah.

  • @vazagad...dude are you and idiot? whens the last time phantom won drums? yea exactly..bd won drums like the past 3,4 years..so their obviously not cleaner or more musical than bd or cadets or alot of corps. so shut up. watch bd,cadets, cavs. get off phantom..better yet watch the buccaneers a dca corps and they are cleaner and better than phantoms line

  • the legend..

  • I don't seen the cleanliness in his playing that i see in the BD's actual line, which lets me know he must be one hell of a director.

  • HIS SINGLES are from GOD!

  • no he just practice his ass off

  • those sticks are his bitchses

  • god that drum sounds so crispy!

  • 1:13 His buzzes are so even!!! I thought it was a roll at first haha!

  • I'm more of an SCV and BC drumline fan

  • he loves flams lol

  • that drum sounds delicious

  • its pretty dificult to make your case that phantom has a better drumline when bd went undefeated this year in drums. that usually means that they were consistantly better than everyone else... just saying.

  • 1:48 holy shit!

  • lol this is the same solo that he played in '82!!!!!! dci

  • oh and the opening right hand singles thing;

    soooo uneven

  • @vazagad Well I happen to be a Phantom fan. However I strongly disagree with you. Both corps are good. The Blue Devils are able to ram rudimentally hard stuff down your throat while still making it flashy. They are just as clean as Phantom if not cleaner most of the time. The Devils have won a heck of alot more high percussion awards than phantom. Maybe you should watch various corps instead of just Phantom so you can make an acurate assesment.

  • @snaregirl88 couldn't agree more with you

  • Both are good yes but devs are not as clean as phantom, phantom has such an unbelievable blend that is unparalleled by anyone in the activity right now

  • @nhspercussionist You try marching a BD show while playing a BD book... and tell me how clean you can get it. Phantom has a good line.. hell pretty much all of the top corps have a good drumline.. but how many of those lines actually move and play the kind of things that BD does?

  • @a53mp I didnt say anything about me playing a book

i simply stated that phantom plays very clean

    and they do

and thats what wins, shut up

  • @snaregirl88i see what vazagad is saying. phantom (or should i now say SCV) has a very well balanced snare line. Blue devils have a very tasty quad line. But the funny thing is is that they are both two very different styles. Paul stresses this loose fat feeling of just play the drum and make it sound good, while blue devils have a more dig into the head kind of playing style. Paul also writes way different. Paul's guys wouldnt be too fond of playing blue devils stuff.

  • @snaregirl88 and blue devils guys wouldnt be too fond of playing Paul's writing.

  • @doga63 this is very true.

  • @snaregirl88 i laugh at the notion that blue devils even come close to the clean-ness and or musicality of phantom regiments drumline

  • @IrrelevantTV cavies

  • @IrrelevantTV The only reason the Phantom Regiments Drumline sounds even barely better, is because their music is so simple. I mean seriously, I can play that stuff in my sleep.....

  • wish you had chops to back that crap up don't you

  • for everyone saying phantom is better... why is it bd always win in i&e for at least like 2 or 3 things for percussion?

  • They're better in their own way.... Judges like the way that BD plays more.

  • @alextamuk the corp director doesn't allow Phantom to do I&E events, but with Paul's move to SCV for 2011 who knows what kind of crazyness we'll see.

  • @vazagad

I agree! Its not like the Devils play really easy stuff or anything (I'm not saying I could make them at all) but PR is where its at. Phantom is what got me into Corps style drumming, before I was into marching stuff.

haha I like the "Drum Line" example.

but I will give him some credit with that section of press rolls on the edge near the beginning. That was Rad, with a capital R.

  • @vazagad

I'm currently doing some studying with one of Paul Rennick's students, and I gotta agree with you that Paul Rennick has amazing ideas (Velocity of the bead into the head, just scientific stuff like that). But having great ideas is different than applying them to stuff that Scott Johnson does, like Blue Devils snare lick in '09... Or their whole show, they play the exact same, which, in turn, makes them sound the same. They're both good.

  • @vazagad too bad you have no balls to admit that BD and ScoJo are 300X better than PR...

  • @vazagad i enjoyed the movie drumline and im a percussionist. the movie drumline was only trying to show us what HBCU drumlines do. in HBCU land its more about entertaining the crowd than it is the judge. as even the dirtiest HBCU drumline can win over an audience than the cleanest HBCU drumline can as long as they are more entertaing than the one that was clean. dont be so close minded when it comes to drumming. in HBCU drumlines its all about funk, groove and flashy.

  • @vazagad Blue Devils have one of the cleanest lines in DCI. Show me a video of Phantom and I can find something just as difficult performed by the Blue Devils that is cleaner.

  • @vazagad I completely agree with you

  • i love how when he messes up at the stick dribble he's like oops lets try that again instead of freakin out Scojo is the man

  • holy snap at 1:49

  • "soundcheck"

  • "U CANN DO ET MANG!"

  • @irishknightt YAIYUH!

  • i was there.

  • ...like no one's business.

  • goodness even his "old man chops" aren't even "old man chops"

  • amazing

  • jeeeze

i bet you his hands burnt SO bad after this

truely and amazing drummer right there

  • dout it. hes been playing soo long his chops were probably fine after it.

  • CHOP OUT AT 2:28!!!

u dont see that shit everyday

  • Actually, it was a tick.

Still don't see that every day.

  • The best in my eyes

  • i give up *stabs drumstick through head*

  • Legendary lick, right there.

Glad to see that he is keeping it around.

  • lol, "thats it!"

  • anyone who would talk s-h-i-t- about Scott Johnson is completely and unimaginably ignorant.

  • But Criticism and opinions are still allowed! ;)

  • I marched for Rennick, met Scott, both of em are cool

  • very impressive

  • screw u dude. this guys is a legend. ive talked to him and hung out with him. he is a freaking awesome dude. ur just a dick. u dont know wut real drumming is

  • i met him too, he's a real cool dude.

  • Get off his ass dude, Scott like what, in his 50's? I can't find a single video of Rennick playing a solo recently if at all.

  • I like Rennick's musical writing, I love ScoJo's amazing, but choppy writing...Both amazing in anybody's eyes. It's also a Eastern US and West Coast US thing for who you like more.

  • Comment removed

  • first 5 seconds where enough for me

  • Umm....yes please

  • He is amazing...you guys should check out Jim Kilpatrick before saying "best"

  • The best! This guy is a legend.

  • Paul Rennick and many others at UNT should also be considered the best

  • yeah as what they do for there corps he's more of a legend cause of he's monsterly chops on snare

  • jesus his rolls are smooth.

  • god is that you

  • old dudes always have that sick sound to their stuff. i cant wait to get old.

  • Rofl

  • hahahaha, that caught me off guard

  • I love the way he plays. He's a good role model for those who are looking for a higher level of playing!!!!

  • LEGEND

  • i'm loving the way that drum sounds

  • I'd love to see him playing on a drum kit.

  • i got a chance to meet scojoe at wgi finals, he's a great guy, and a freaking legend

  • He is doing hertas off of the left and right hand.

  • i want to see anyone who is posting negative feedback to please post a response video....... scojo is the king!

  • fuck all yall negitives u wanna be pussy fuckers

  • Those sticks he's using must have a Fat Tiop!

  • they actually have a rubber tip.

  • This video isen't about seeing how good ScoJo looks. So his weight is irrelevant. Its about drumming. Period.

  • Yeah, if I did nothing with my life, i'd be that good too.

  • hes done more in the drumming world them most will ever do

  • you need more than energy fatass!!!!!!

  • oh believe me, he's got a lot more than you think buddy...

  • Then he must be hiding it under all those rolls of lard!

  • go ahead and make fun of him being overweight to make yourself feel better if you must....Just make sure that you're at least able to acknowledge that he's achieved 10X more in the DCI (or drum world period for that matter) world than you could ever imagine.

  • Scott Johnson has achieved 10X more in the DCI (or drum world period for that matter) world than I could ever imagine. Okay... he still needs more than energy probably like 2 jelly donuts a large decaf coffee with a can of pedigree dog food and a pound of sliced beef from the local meat market. Oh and cant forget an ounce of weed to smoke before he does his solo cause Scott Johnson being the "BIG" stoner that he is (saw him wearing a shirt with a bunch of marijuana leaves on it.)

  • yeah you're right, because every person wearing a shirt with marijuana automatically promotes and smokes weed....(even if he does smoke weed, does the fact that you're making fun of his weight just because you're upset about how far he's gone in percussion really make up for it?)

  • I'm not making fun of how far hes gone in percussion im just agreeing with betoyeyo that scott needs more than energy.

  • Both of you queers shut your tits up.

Spotlessmind.....shut the fuck up! Scott Johnson is a great percussionist and has come a very long way.

Tenorsarefun......you're a gay tool and deserve to die.

  • Yeah your right, he has come a long way. boy i remember back in '94 when he was gigantic me and my buddies would call him "The Gigantor!" but yeah hes lost most of it.

  • Never defend betoyeyo!

  • lmao!!! hahaha but yeah.. scott johnson is a legend PERIOD!

  • Comment removed

  • lmao ... guys seriously ... if you can inspire and entertain a room full of people and got chops like that at 56 ... then you can comment

  • it was just you

  • is this untimation?

  • Scotty, no cocktails until after the solo.

  • Everyone is concerned about what happened at the end . What about what happened at 1:47. Nice stick drop and recovery

  • i'm not sure but it looked like scott lost his chops for a sec at 2:28 or 2:29

  • Scott's gut was in the way.

  • Ahh Scojo! What can't you do.

  • Nice, Scott Johnson AWESOME, although the way the sticks look is a bit strange?

  • those buzzes...so awesome

  • the guys are never gonna let that tick at the end go... i can see it on the field already....

  • old guy still got it.

  • wow, he even made the mistake look good!

    very nice and even sound

  • wow, he is such a strong player, the sound is a nice solid "thwack" plus he makes it look so easy, doesn't even break a sweat

  • He was sweating like a pig and his face was sooooooooooo red!

  • Scott Johnson has been around for a long time, yes we can all agree on that. Having the chance in the past to play for his was an honor. Knowing him personally after all these years, I always look forward to see what his drummers bring to the table. Age aside, he can still outplay most anyone. I always liked his teaching style.

  • scojo is good and i agree with the last two people. lol thats just how it is. and with scojo i think he just doesnt have it anymore. and his name keeps him were he is at not his hands!!!

  • Doesn't have it anymore? What does he have to have? He is the caption head for a top 12 drum and bugle corps. He doesn't compete. Most of his clinics focus on how to make your line better, not here's my solo chops.

But I'm sure that whatever R High School is pumping out players, judges and clinicians just as good as Scott.

Bottom line is he is about education of others and not focusing on his on chops. (which he has)

  • i agree with pipesandsnares. scojo and the BD line is worshiped too much. i dont think i can put it in better context when he says that if BD takes a shit on their drums half way through the show, at least 90 different high schools would do it too. but going back to Scojo, he has some nasty habbits in his technique. some might say its due to the fact that he's kinda old. but i've seen vids when he was young playing that same solo with the same nasty habbits. he's a bit dirty but he IS old lol.

  • and ur a fuckin faggot =D

  • u talk alot of smack for someone with nasty technique that plays nasty sixtupletts and nasty flams...dick gagging bitch

  • u prolly never even seen me drum hahaha

    fag =]]] u don't gotta hate!!
