Wow the announcer sure has a boner for all things honda. Wont shut up about it even when its being thrashed by a 15 year old car. That fire? Sure as hell not a honda.\
@SirDouglasArthur89 no crying here, just stating the variables that were left out of the description. s2k = street tires, stock suspension, daily driver, no other mods other than itbs and ems. Miata = fully race prepped, stripped, interior, slicks, racing suspension, etc etc etc.
The 4.3 second 0-60 MPH 184 whp. is with the tires spinning, that's why N/A is much superior than forced induction on a lightweight car. Forced Induction is too much power. Turbo does have an advantage on a long long straight though.
2" exhaust is not too small since in Japan they even use a smaller dia.
@4ThrottleTuning +1 small exhaust can often yeild more power than large bore exhaust if done correctly. kids with 3'' piping on 1.8L just lose torque and sound like crap. Theres a guy who actually "detunes" bikes by putting smaller exhausts on them, and while they achieve less peak power, they gain so much low end power and keep it through the RPM range that the bike ends up being faster anyway
The S2000 motor swap would be good on big HP track. The Miata is so light that you cannot put the power down & that's why we went with ITB's & not a Turbo. With ITB's we have a flat torque curve with our peak HP @ 8200 RPM's.Our Miata now has 184 WHP (Pump Gas 93 Oct.) & 0-60 is 4.3 sec. 9000 RPM Redline.
Not to be a dick, but I have no problems with my 383whp miata.... Yours is pretty swift, especially given the horsepower, but with the right suspension and tires, tire spin isnt that ridiculous. The only way I spin out is if I slam the gas and drop it in first.
Why not put the S2000 motor in the miata and make a complete monster out of it?? by the way anyone have a video of that ive seen pics but no videos yet would love to see that
sounds great, but I think S2K's engine is heavier thus upsets the balance of the Maita.. Doesn't need much power for a light car.. so I'd rather go with modifying the Miata's stock engine..
Koni Race shocks & Swift Springs. Custom FujiRacing 2" diameter catback. The 2" is not a mistake. We even use it on our built 171 RWHP Miata. Response is what we are always after and it worked.
I'm using 2" on my 1.8L engine and it has great low-mid response and doesn't affect high rpm performance as well.. tried 2.3" exhaust and doesn't seem to show improvement in straight line performance.. same 0-60 time..
I think the stock 1600cc B6 delivers 120hp and could do 0-60 in 9.4s with this 1st gen MX5..
It came with a 9.4:1 CR pistons, I think It's a bit low for N/A performance.. How did you managed to squeeze that much power? I'm sure you've changed the cam profile.. of how much duration and lift? I'm really curios how made it to 171whp or probably around 190-200hp on the flywheel..?

Just as we suspected. The stock AP2 will not show up. Also we would like to invite any Forced Induction Miata to VIR Patriot course on Oct. 3-5. Here's their chance to see how fast they are on a track and not a Dyno.

uhm, that miata is slow and needs a driver mod. Come see my stock as balls ap2 and I guarantee I take you from what ever race you want. If you wanna talk shit on S2ks you gotta prove it first
On a technical note, that S2000 does have stock rims and has some body roll so you know stock suspension right off the bat. The driver is sleeping through every turn and is not even staying in his powerband as you can clearly hear.
Dyno # 150 whp on a Mustang has never changed. CFT Orlando, FL. did the Dyno. The 13.9 1/4 mile was done with stock cams with 130 whp. Get your facts straight. SCCA Driver of the year 2007 "Plenty of power for CSP w/FujiRacing ITB's to win". NHRA AllMotor Champ '02,'03; & '05 can also confirm that & about 30 + that has driven the car. What is your track record? Have you ever driven a ITB car and what are your #'s? We have real info. Give us a track record to show what you know about IRTB's.
FujiRacing ITB/IRTB Miata Facts: Multiple Natl. Tour wins. 8.9sec. 1/8 mile, 13.9 sec. 1/4 mile (DOT Tires) w/only 130 whp stock internals 9:1 CR Non Ported Head. Laguna Seca 1:44 lap time w/ 150 whp drivers first time with car on that circuit. We were faster than the SC Lotus cars on a HP circuit.
Now we are building 12:1 CR with a ported head and our Racing Cams and adjust our suspension after what we found out a Laguna Seca. No excuse there and the track times do show actual performance.
Thats funny... I thought the 1/4 time was at 170+whp... oh wait.. that dyno number was in error. And the next one was higher than 130 if memory serves me. You still don't get it... you are comparing yourself to different DRIVERs... a stock s2k vs a prepped car... will loose everytime... it could have been beaten by a fwd prepped car, let alone a stock motor with ITBs. Your mod is not inline with the needs of the car, it will be with your built motor... but not before then.
I was on worn out autox tires that didn't have grip. What's your excuse for your slow acceleration at full throttle. My Miata motor with stock internals and only 130RWHP has no problem out accelerating you to 60MPH. With fresh tires I would have went another 2 sec. faster. Before you start talking trash like you did on the
S2KI forum and slandering me know the facts before posting. Know your facts first. Bring your car & Tuner to Sebring on the big track. I'll give you 6 mo.s to get prepped.
Just found this...I was the S2000 driver. Jimmy, you failed to mentioned that I was on street tires with a bone stock suspension...your car is on R-comps and fully race prepped.
Not a fair comparison and you know it. Next time show up on street tires and prepare to get your ass handed to you.
By my experience, you sit a lot higher in a Miata. I own an S2000 and, at 6'1", I can easily fit into it, but I test drove a Miata before I bought the S2000 and my head was only an inch or two away from the top... I'd say it'd be a very tough fit, if it's even possible.
the s2000 doesn't have as much suspension tuning from what i can tell, and he wasn't very aggressive in the turns. It even seems like the s2000 is on the stock rims. Who knows about tires and roll bars etc.
2'' dia exhaust is more than enough for a 1.8 liter N/A car. If you make it bigger, you'll just lose torque and response.

for a 184whp 2wd drive car to make 4.3s 0-60 is really quick, u must have used some good tires to get off the line as quick..
I agree, lighter cars are better with high revving N/A engines.. I like N/A response a lot better..

Stock internals on this video. The car now has 171 RWHP & within 2 weeks we'll run it down the 1/4 mile hoping for a 12.5 sec. pass.

This video shows the acceleration with just 130 RWHP. Can you imagine with 170 RWHP.
At 150 RWHP & 100 UTQG Tires we lapped Laguna Seca which is a HP course at 1:44. Fast S2000with race tires lap it in 1:43 ~ 1:45.
Now with 171 NA RWHP 1:30's is possible. 0-60 MPH 4.5 sec. isn't bad for a Miata.
BTW I have many S2K customer's so don't even go there.
If you can't make it.Invite S2K to VIR's Patriot course Oct. 3-5 with any Mod to see their lap times since we'll be there.
