  • do you know any more songs from that era?

  • @safiyaclaire I don't really know--I wrote this one.

  • You are so sweet, thanks for this beautiful song.

  • @safiyaclaire Thank you so much!

  • So hauntingly beautiful. I agree with what Yoppy said :)

  • @UnluckyMum Thank you so much, Caroline! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)

  • Beautiful........Darrell

  • @w1dvf Thanks very much, Darrell! :-)

  • This is beautiful!! I just love it! FAV!! and, thumbs up!! t:)

  • @agrlfmtx Thanks so much, Theresa! :-)

  • Just when I think I've got a handle on just how cool and original and awesome you are, you surprise me by taking it to a new level. Great song, Joanna. Really, really great.

  • @ukeyermind Eeeep! I am blushing here! I do NOT think I am any of those nice things you said! And now I'm hoping my next song doesn't totally fall flat! LOL! Anyway, thank you very much! And I'm glad you liked it. :-)

  • Beautiful song! :)

  • @ukeshale Thanks, Shane! I'm glad you liked it. :-)

  • Love the lyrics very sad story in history.

  • @Rutle Thank you very much, Catherine. Actually, I almost feel like a reporter. I just wrote down mainly what happened to one family in the TV series, "The Hanging Gale".

  • I love watching your songwriting progress! This is really lovely! Great picking/strumming as well.

  • @fourteentwelve Thanks! and OH NO! Pressure much?! LOL! Now I'm worried my next song will fall flat! I actually have another song ready to go and another one almost finished. I need to do something more uptempo, like "Stutz Bearcat", which I did in collaboration with Bunnychan on the "Mischievous Squirrels" video.

  • wow - haunting and wonderful

  • @kennymelodica Thanks much, Kenny! I'm glad you liked it. :-)

  • Really beautiful!

  • @marcoacca Thanks so much, Marco! :-)

  • This is not the first time I have been impressed with your ability to write a song that feels like its been around for hundreds of years.

  • @YoppyKyabetsu Thank you very much, Yoppy. I think it's the modal quality of my melodies a lot of times. Or something? I dunno, really...I listen to a lot of older stuff. :-)

  • Very good writing. Captured the mood extremely well. I would love to hear this more fully orchestrated!

  • @MusicMonsterW Thank you, Ronin! I think it would probably sound better with the addition of a pennywhistle and/or Uilleann pipes, neither of which I own or can play. :-)

  • Great song Mousie! Has a nice ancient english ring to it.

  • @BaronK69 Thanks very much, Robin! :-) I was going for Irish, but I don't think I made it. :-P

  • @ctrymaus It probably is Irish, but I couldn't tell the difference...

  • @BaronK69 Oh, I wasn't being sarcastic or anything! I just meant I'm not totally satisfied with the melody I came up with. I think I rushed it. But if I'd listened to a lot of Irish music first, then I might've started copying it! What's a songwriter to do?! :-D

  • What inspired this song? Is it something from family history, or just something that caught your interest?

  • @DearOldNutjob I wrote this after B. and I watched the TV series, "The Hanging Gale", which dealt with the Irish Potato Famine and all the politics surrounding it.

  • Fine tune Ms. Maus.

  • @waterdog226 Thank you very much, Lynda. :-)

  • Nice one! You really capured an old school style in a brand new song ;).

  • @thakoh Thanks! Well, I am pretty much a folksinger; so if that's "old school", then that's what I am. :-)

  • Well done, Maus. I think I'll count my blessings again...

  • @uke5417 Thank you, Bruce. :-) ::nod:: We have no idea what others have had to go through...and I hope we never have to know personally.

  • Well done, very sad sounding chords and melody for a sad subject.

  • @MrPlatypus70 Thank you very much, Mr. P. :-)

  • Excellent song. It definitely captures the essence of what happened during the Irish potato blight and the horrible greed of the English land-owners.

  • @bunnychan22 Thanks so much! I hoped I would be able to get that across. I almost made the lyrics a bit more gruesome, but changed my mind at the last minute. I think we here in middle-class America have no concept of what it was like for most people back then in that time.

  • That was a bad time in Ireland, Joanna. You have pictured the desperate situation well. ...Bill

  • @cariboubill Thanks very much, Bill. DH and I had just finished watching the TV series, "The Hanging Gale", which dealt with that situation. Very powerful series, very very awful time for everyone but the very rich.

  • great tune Mousie! it sounds old worldy like the subject.

  • @russbuss415 Thanks very much, Russ! I was trying for something like that. I still don't think I captured a true Irish feel to it, but approaching it, I guess. :-D

  • LOVE this Mousie! Fantastic lyrics! :-) Hugs X

  • @ruth7784 Thanks! I'm glad you like it, Ruth! I wrote this after B. and I watched the series, "The Hanging Gale", with all four of the McGann brothers in it.

  • Very dramatic!

  • @UKISOCIETY Thanks very much, Alan! :-)
