Just when I think I've got a handle on just how cool and original and awesome you are, you surprise me by taking it to a new level. Great song, Joanna. Really, really great.
@ukeyermind Eeeep! I am blushing here! I do NOT think I am any of those nice things you said! And now I'm hoping my next song doesn't totally fall flat! LOL! Anyway, thank you very much! And I'm glad you liked it. :-)
@Rutle Thank you very much, Catherine. Actually, I almost feel like a reporter. I just wrote down mainly what happened to one family in the TV series, "The Hanging Gale".
@fourteentwelve Thanks! and OH NO! Pressure much?! LOL! Now I'm worried my next song will fall flat! I actually have another song ready to go and another one almost finished. I need to do something more uptempo, like "Stutz Bearcat", which I did in collaboration with Bunnychan on the "Mischievous Squirrels" video.
@YoppyKyabetsu Thank you very much, Yoppy. I think it's the modal quality of my melodies a lot of times. Or something? I dunno, really...I listen to a lot of older stuff. :-)
@MusicMonsterW Thank you, Ronin! I think it would probably sound better with the addition of a pennywhistle and/or Uilleann pipes, neither of which I own or can play. :-)
@BaronK69 Oh, I wasn't being sarcastic or anything! I just meant I'm not totally satisfied with the melody I came up with. I think I rushed it. But if I'd listened to a lot of Irish music first, then I might've started copying it! What's a songwriter to do?! :-D
@DearOldNutjob I wrote this after B. and I watched the TV series, "The Hanging Gale", which dealt with the Irish Potato Famine and all the politics surrounding it.
@bunnychan22 Thanks so much! I hoped I would be able to get that across. I almost made the lyrics a bit more gruesome, but changed my mind at the last minute. I think we here in middle-class America have no concept of what it was like for most people back then in that time.
@cariboubill Thanks very much, Bill. DH and I had just finished watching the TV series, "The Hanging Gale", which dealt with that situation. Very powerful series, very very awful time for everyone but the very rich.
@russbuss415 Thanks very much, Russ! I was trying for something like that. I still don't think I captured a true Irish feel to it, but approaching it, I guess. :-D
@ruth7784 Thanks! I'm glad you like it, Ruth! I wrote this after B. and I watched the series, "The Hanging Gale", with all four of the McGann brothers in it.
do you know any more songs from that era?

What inspired this song? Is it something from family history, or just something that caught your interest?

Excellent song. It definitely captures the essence of what happened during the Irish potato blight and the horrible greed of the English land-owners.
