Sigh! These songs always fill me with so much emotion and bliss that I don't know what to write. They remind me of a life when I was young and innocent. My formative years. I absolutely love this song
In Sri Lanka (Ceylon at that time) we watched many Indian movies (Hindi and Tamil),
although we couldn't understand Hindi, except for a few words.
As a young child I remember this song being played on the radio. I have tried many times to find it on You Tube with no success until by chance I found it today. Thank you very much for this lovely song which takes me back to my childhood.
Can someone please tell me what the opening line means?
Thanks for liking and rich appreciation. The first line means "Don't forget the childhood days". I used to listen it since early days on SLBC (Ceylon) Radio programmes and has mesmerising effects. There is a short version of it rendered by Mohd. Rafi on Dilip Kumar; that is also posted by me.
It's so cute! "Till now I new this song only from instrumental version of Enoch Daniels - piano accordeonist - from 1973 LP, but this... what a singing! I'm happy I've found this. THANX! :)
Thanks, rumahale for a very memorable post. This song is so evergreen and ready on recall. It represents almost everyone's image of childhood memories.
By the way, any guesses about who the girl on the horse is? None other than Tabassum, the celebrated TV personality of the seventies and eighties!
Thanks for the interest shown, rich comments and information on Tabassum. She was a great personality in presentation. I remember her so also Ameen Sayani.
When ever I am feeling down or in sad spirits I would listen to this evergreen classic. At some point and time in our lives we look back at our childhood days. I often wonder if we did not have our memories what life would be like. Thank you so much for posting.

@sooby19 Here is my attempt at a translation
Do not forget these days of childhood
After today's laughter, do not make me cry tomorrow
Long are the roads of this life
Come, let's traverse them singing and laughing
singing and laughing
Let's build a palace in a land, far far away
And thereupon light the lamp of love
Light the lamp
Do not extinguish the lamp after lighting it

If the season changes or if life passes by
The songs of the heart should not grow old
Like the blissful dreams upon closed eyelids
This very world will appear to us, one day
On that day do not forget me
After today's laughter, do not make me cry tomorrow

No other sweet, melodious and enthralling song like this ever composed, sung
and penned which can evoke the memories of the childhood and the past of a persons life
as much as this particular song Bach pan ke din can, composed by a true maestro
Naushad, sung by a couple of outstanding singers Lata&Shamshad and written by a a great
lyricist Shakil Badayuni. No doubt this is the best evocative song ever produced on the indian silver screen. Thanks pal for this priceless jewel.
