The title of this clip is "IMMIGRATION Crackdown HURTS Our Economy". I thought the crackdown was on ILLEGAL ALIENS. ILLEGAL ALIENS don't necessarily pay income tax, yet they might put their children in our tax funded schools. This HURTS our economy. Immigrants have been and always will be welcome.

Thats why everytime technology improves, peoples real wages improve, lets say i came up with a new tool that picked strawberries twice as fast there would be half as many people doing those jobs for the same minimum wage(or making half as much for the same amount of strawberries picked) but that would be better for the economy, you can look at cheaper foreign workers as improvements in technologies

In the long run this policy will have huge demographic social and political implications. The "illegal immigrant issue" in the States is not the same issue at all. The main problem is that it's not managed properly, there is no vetting process and it has happened without democratic mandate. Paul-Krugman is an idiot. Economists were the ones who told congress that in order to grow our economy we had to import cheap labor. He can't see the cost involved in a growing population. Can Paul explain why our standard of living has declined since the 50's and since we let in so many immigrants? No, because he only sees dollars and cents from a business perspective.

Unfortunately not well. We basically accelerated the effects of the national recession by getting started before the rest of the region, and the rest of the nation was even talking about recession.
This year, we will have to slash our county budget and reduce services including school and public safety AND raise taxes considerably just to keep the government running.

I hold our federal government responsible for this. They did not secure our borders, a travesty in light of 911, and consequently they enticed illegals here with work. The town I live in is 30% Latino, imagine if we started to crack down on undocumented, this would become a ghost town! I would even move b/c my property value would go down! The entire system needs rebalancing. You obviously have a miopic sense of history. All my ancestors were non-slave owning farmers in America and Canada who never used any type of slave labor. In Europe, Whites worked the land since prehistoric times. In the South, many poorer Whites always ran their own farms without the use of slaves.
I myself, was picking tomatoes in California in the early '60s along side Mexican Brucerros, and so were many of my friends. I have had a lot of older White patients who picked crops.

The 19th century factories were much worse than the 20th century ones and they were filled with many generationed White Americans, chidren too.
Your problem is the use of the word "always." That is really easy to refute. It is only true in the 19th century where building the railroads were concerned. And in the 20th century, immigrants were very glad to work in the factories you mentioned as everyone was, because where they came from, they were denied existence.

Thats why everytime technology improves, peoples real wages improve, lets say i came up with a new tool that picked strawberries twice as fast there would be half as many people doing those jobs for the same minimum wage(or making half as much for the same amount of strawberries picked) but that would be better for the economy, you can look at cheaper foreign workers as improvements in technologies

Also (with reference to Britain) they never account for the additional burden on schools, hospitals, housing, transport and public services in general. This particular "economist" also fails to mention the impact of illegal immigration!

The point is that populations need a certain ration of workers to retired persons, otherwise there is not enough gross national product to generate the necessary tax base to sustain the social services needed to care for parents and grandparents as they age. The United States is facing a huge labor shortage problem, also known as the "Illegal Immigration Issue." If it makes you feel any better, Japan and Europe also have this problem.

The fairest way to explain it is this: much of the perception that there was an "invasion" of undocumented immigrants was based on the belief that people with brown skin who spoke Spanish were probably illegal. And, as the fear created by the Immigration Resolution resulted in a reduction of "brown faces" at the bus stop, as well as severe drops in ESL classes in schools, proponents celebrated the effectiveness of the Resolution, making the same assumption about skin color and language skills.

1. they have created the appearance that they were in fact guilty, thus justifying the resolution.
2. in leaving, they have indicted other members of their group, thus making it more difficult for those who stayed.
Anyone who is legal has the law on their side. Any harassment could have easily been met with a legal challenge. The ACLU loves these cases.

Turner/Tompkins issued a press release citing your good Dr. Fuller as an outside board member.
Verify by google since no links permitted.
This to me would be a vested interest in maintaining a steady supply of cheap, compliant undocumented (and uncomplaining) labor.
A professional vets his sources and experts, adding caveats if required.

Human beings are not economic automatons as Stephen Fuller insuniates we are spiritual and cultural beings. I know Stephen is well aware of this. I am seeing this trend of big banking and big business blending and merging together with our government. I also suspect Stephen is one of a number of people right in the mix of this. A Propagandist. These are the wonderful people who send American jobs overseas and attempt to raise the H1-B visa caps to bring foreign workers in. Not honest people.

Sure, but if you look at reality, those aren't families moving in, they're banks and real estate speculators gobbling up the cheapest lowest valued prices in Northern, VA. auntieM16 you are 100% right. The people who are buying currently are bottom feeders who will not invest in the community as a home owner would. It's funny the Latinos were building additions and improvements sometimes without permits but they had good intentions. I've seen these "war baby" homes with no improvements for years until the "immigrants" in. There was some overcrowding but that should have been addressed and not by calling them criminals! Unity builds strong commiunites.

Mytime2...did you see these buses as you were leaving the ABC store? PW has been hit hard with bad publicity. That's a simple fact. It will take a while to fix that. Not many companies are expanding at the moment. Are you aware of that? Plus our commercial investors invested money 2 yrs ago and are depending on banks to pay now. What do you think is going to happen? All adjoining counties have had large projects pull out. That's why we won't meet budget.

Mytime..Do you understand that credit policy committees have decided all the adjoining counties are now declining markets which requires for an additional 5% down payment for people buying homes. That's a 15% down payment total. Do the math. How many people have that kind of cash? How many houses do we have on the market? How more foreclosures are coming? Don't get me started on FHA programs. These are facts that are dealt with everyday including the everyday change in finance guidelines.

How could any intellectually honest person suggest that enforcement of immigration laws is bad for the economy?
If the police went into a drug infested part of town and removed the drug dealers - the head shops might close - by this logic that would be bad for the economy. After all, crack pipe sales have been severely reduced, and retail space formally used to sell drug paraphernalia now sits empty and cannot generate tax revenue.
