"...but alot of you guys are put off by the fact that it runs on linux..." so I'm going to trick you into running linux without your knowledge. Priceless, keep it up. :)
It's free cause it's crap. I really want to use a Linux video-editing program but is there anything on Linux that's better than clacketty cinellera & crochety Kdenlive? I want a program that works as well as Windows moviemaker 2.6 - a program that will allow my creative ideas to materialise & Cinelerra & Kdenlive are just too obstructive with all their technical poblems?
Hey, can I download this as a torrent cause it's more than 1 gb and i have a very slow connection. please put this on piratebay or kickasstorrents or anything that's torrent. Please, I'll try to know what's the purpose of this.
@snugglemiley Why don't you just download the software that was written for linux. She mad a video about it. Or do you mean using the USB thing? Are there that many linux computers in your life that you need to be portable?
The video is very insightful but I have no words for how I feel right now just because I am astonished by how cute you are when you talk geek, lol. Your intelligence is your best feature. Stay geeky and I will continue to watch your videos, as even I obviously still have something to learn. I wish my wife were as geeky and cute as you. Peace. and keep that linux hype coming!!
To use ANY Linux video-editing program you have to have the patience of a saint, when 5 hours work can disappear down the pan in 2 seconds. Kdenlive was written for ants to crawl across the page & perform the edits for you. It sure ain't built for humans!! A couple of hours of using Kdenlive & an appointment at the opticians is necessary. Kden stinks. It crashes, it refuses to carry-out commands. It's NOT user-friendly & it'll wind you up in 30 seconds flat.
DEBIAN!!!!!!! I so love that distro! When i 1st saw the debian logo on the desktop, i was like Wow! Becaus my research tells me that Debian has ALOT less users than it had before! Becaus of Ubuntu.
Great video, but, this isn’t quite working for me. Everything seems to go great until I boot to the USB. Linux comes up but it isn’t that desktop like in the video. It is another boot menu giving me a bunch of choices such as: live, live (failsafe), text install, .., GUI install and such. What did I do wrong or should I do?
OK, I got it to work. At first I installed the 32-bit version because of the processor I have. However, as I fiddled with the 32-bit version, I was able to get it to do something from the Windows environment and it said that my system would support the 64-bit version. So, I installed the 64-bit version and everything worked just like in the video. And, it was really easy. Cheers!
To me, the very best option, considering the large sizes of harddrives now, is simply learning how to dual boot, with linux and windows, which is definitely the smart thing to do, there online tutorials to walk you through, and currently, I always have pclinuxos, mepis, mint linux, and even ubuntu's latest burnt off iso's. Dual boot! Unless you're a gamer, you won't be in windows much! A few have to use certain programs at work, though for starting your own business, think open source.
Go one step further and start to research the corruption, bloodlines running this world, and the international bankers. The true powers that be have very negative agendas and keep everyone in wars and most of the world starving. Watch Jesse Ventura a little! And research the Venus Project, a true advanced world of equality, that doesnt require banks is very similar to open source software. Lets pass the tests here on earth and truly care for others.
@Mysti99 I dual booted too! (though only cuz I'm a HUGE gamer) though I am highly considering making a permanent switch to linux on account of 1: WINE 2: I have the ability to create my own games and 3: my hard drive space is only 40 gigs lol
@jjovereats: Well, i don't really get you answer?! No one was talking about the KDE Desktop, just kdenlive!
Like korwinblue already said the headline is misleading. I thought there is a possibility to run kdenlive directly! under Windows, not just virtually.
Ofcourse you can run a live system on a Mircosoft PC, but that's not what the headline says.
At KdenLive site it says USB is out of date and should not be used anymore. Is it really that bad and if so what alternative is there for running Kden on Windows?
@saiyanwill Roses are #ff0000 (#ff0000 is hex for red) Violets are #0000ff (#0000ff is hex for blue) "All my base are belong to you" is a play on an old Japanese mistranslation in a video game ("All your base are belong to us"). Cool shirt! :)
I hate to ask this here, but how in the blazes do you apply a mask in Kdenlive?
I know how to do it in openshot, but Kdenlive seems to have more options and a better interface layout, so I want to learn to use that (to make youtube videos). I can't seem to find the answer anywahere..
you look like my homie ex girl....but besides that i got linux but u i want to make it look more like apple can you help me...? email me at sktrdie4life@gmail.com

Great idea, and it works really well for me. So tyvm! After that just just flipped the power supply switch... Obviously id prefer to avoid flippin the power off like that... any solution or ideas of what might cause this?
i would like to know how to install linux on a windows laptop without needing a cd burner and cd like to dual boot and plus my desktop hardrive broke so its now a external harddrive with nooo OS so i want to know how i can install it on thaat with out needing a cd or dvd burner!
Adobe and combustion are the best. Also windows movie make and imovie are the best.I don't think i can do what i want with this program it seem so plain based on this video lol but good video
@SkyNStarr Its all dependent on what your bios (chip/programing that starts up the computer) is capable of. My laptop has a built in sd card reader and a eSata port but it will boot from neither of these. The quick answer 4 U is prob. no . You can check by going into the bios setting whilst your computer is starting up. Nixie says press F8 but sometime its F12 or another Fkey. U do this when the brand logo for your comp pops up on start up. just look around for the option in the boot order menu.
That....or just use viritualbox to have Linux inside windows. I recommend not no use Ubuntu in side virutalbox, because of the screen resolution. Debian is fine. Share a folder with Viritualbox and open and save your video files there.
kino doesn't really have many pros other than the fact that it is much smaller and easier to use. kdenlive isn't much trickier to figure out but its so much more stable and has so much more power. also, i do know kdenlive is multiprocessor optimized, i'm not sure if kino is
woo hoo linux kicks ass until you need to do anything main stream and then it sucks nuts! I wish i could run it at my office but to many other things wont work.
Nixie: I checked on the website. KDENlive does indeed work on the Mac, but they don't have downloadable packages -- for some reason you have to go through MacPorts. Since AFAIK there's no equivalent to Synaptic for that purpose, I'm not sure I could be bothered, but I really should take the time to learn an open source video editor...
Isn't the requirement Hardware and BIOS based only, viz., (1) system must be able to boot from USB; and (2) the debian stuff in the USB must recognize and have the drivers for the peripherals of the system? So why do you mention OS requirement? Apple computer Hardware is proprietary and so Debian might not be able to recognize the keyboard etc.
Excellent video Nixie, so glad that someone is plugging linux. I love linux but unfortunately having to use windows 7 at the minute for its voice activation, but noticed the other day that there is a linux voice recognition project under way, woo hoo! I'm paralysed from my shoulders down so I need the accessibility options to be good, and linux has finally got there! You should do a review and are much better linux has got in this area. By the way, I love your T shirt!
well i tryed this it didnt work with F8 but u noticed it said F12 for boot menu so try that or pay atention to what it shows when you boot up your comp and try different things

Since AFAIK there's no equivalent to Synaptic for that purpose, I'm not sure I could be bothered, but I really should take the time to learn an open source video editor...

Also, VLC is coming out with an editor!
So Kdenlive, OpenShot, and soon, VideoLAN Movie Creator (VLMC)!
Finally, multiple options for open-source video editing!

What the? O.o
How did VLMC go completely under my radar? Looks pretty promising though.

sorry, Nixie, but this stuf, when I boot says "Did not find linux kernel (!!!???) please reboot"

Salutes from Catalonia. Have you tried OpenShot? It's very easy videoeditor and it's going to be included in ubuntu 10.04

Yes, Blender is a great Software but without an external renderer like LuxRender or YafRay it gives you just really ugly results ^^
So I would say that LuxRender and YafRay belong to the best OpenSource software too :D

I just use a pirated copy of Sony Vegas., so its free even in Windows.
judenihal 2 years ago
Sure, you *can* do that, but why pirate when you can get something that will do the job for free?
