CAME ACROSS THIS VIDEO WOW BROUGHT BACK SOME REALLY GREAT MEMORIES. MY FRIENDS AND I FOLLOWED THIS GROUP FOR YEARS ALL OVER EAST COAST WHERE EVER THEY WERE AWSOME BAND , I WAS ABOUT 18 THEN NOW IN MY 50S I WISH I COULD SEE THEM AGAIN IF THEY EVER REGROUP PLEASE SOMEONE POST IT THANKS. DEK THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
I usta see them at The Panic Room(I think) in Wildwood, NJ and l8r at The Seagull in Essex, MD. Kelley had awesome guitar tone. He and george wore 1 white contact lens, WAY before Marilyn Manson. Billy was a great singer too. The shows gave me chills! AWESOME BAND!
Opened up for these guys back in 79, I was maybe 17 and when we came to set up, the drummer was a lefty,I think it was Gary.had to turn around and go get my drums! Well after we finished our set I sat in awe watching these guys!! Best band I ever seen and probably the Loudest!!!
You Guy's remember another great local guitarist Aj (Richetti) his band was out of Moorestown NJ. the Aj experience And Widow. I would say Aj and George were the two best local guitarist during the early 1980's. Last I herd Aj lives in perkasie pa. With severe Arthritis and other health problems. It's a shame He was never signed eaither And he was cconciderd The best hard rock guitarist on the east cost. Anyway those were the days!
holy cow that guy was in dek!!! he said there always was a turnover of people in the band. i even saw the same guitar!!! he started the twirling of the guitar. i even met his dad who confirmed it too!!! of course going back to the 80's. dud you guys didn't even know who the heck was posting on here . woa were you wrong bigtime even played guitar for me it was awsome.........
The DEAD END KIDS will be playing a benefit at The Pennant.....on Saturday July 16th. line up will be...Bill Matson, Kelly James, Georgie Rumbol Steve Schoener, and Bobby O.....for more info contact Georgerumbol@yahoo.com
More like KISS than goth, and goth stuff came up in the late 70's. Bauhaus first had releases in 78 or 79. I wouldn't say this band started anything when they're playing a cover of a cover.
My dad was this bands original sound engineer back in the 70s! This video of from a few years after he stopped working with them and went on to larger things though. As far as the other members as some of you have been asking, well unfortunately most of them except for Georgie have passed away. Want any more info on what the band was like back in the 70s just send me a pm. :)
George would get so intense, then, when he realized he'd hit some really good ones, that smile would creep out. Thanks for giving me back this piece of my life. I moved back to North Carolina late in the summer, and have never been in touch with those guys again. I'd love to hear from any of them if they can remember me through that long haze. My name is Mike Holliday. You can reach me at mucaluc@gmail.com. Thanks... and thanks JD.
Bobby Punk was the bass player at the beginning of the summer, but I think excesses caused a few problems and Tommy came aboard. Earth Pig was living in the house, and I remember having to talk him down off of a bad one... kind of a scary thing with a guy that big, but we did invent forehead pig ornaments. George was a creative genius. They created magic, and I'm very happy to get a little taste.
This is so cool to see this. I lived in Wildwood the summer og 1980 when they played the Fairview nearly every night. I saw a lot of music, but just flipped for this band. I went nearly every night that summer. We became friends, and I spent a lot of time at their house in Wildwood. I used to hit the beach with Gary (not with George or Kelley, who did not want to ruin their deathly pallor! They mostly came out at night! We hung out at the house more.)
Anyone remember New London from the Galaxy days in the 80's ? They had a great song about Kelly James ! Hell he even got up and played it with them one night at the Galaxy ! Awesome night hope someone else remembers being there !
I still have a copy of the "You Don't Like It, We Don't Care" CD ripped on my computer that they recorded in Bellmawr. A friend of mine was Carl's roadie.
Before I moved to Georgia I had the pleasure of working with Rocco Mazella (R.I.P) and Mike cost of Tangier when they formed Surrender Dorothy. This band was the best band to ever play at the Shady Lane in NJ. Oh the good times we had there!!! Can't believe that was almost 30 yrs ago. So glad to see this......
By far the best video (IMHO) on yt. The Kids were ground breaking in so many ways. To this day I have yet to see a band have a lead singer yet still be fronted by the two guitar players. Who among us wouldn't pay big bucks to see a George and Kelly fronted DEK reunion??
Great to see this.I Played with them at a benefit at Bogeys in 79 have the Ad. Remember Genes on the Blvd
T`s Zodiac,Bogeys,Dick Lees,The Galaxy,Zig Zag, Bullwinkles,Central Park,Penalty Box,Bellino`s,Heaven on Rt 73, Also the great bands from back in the 70`s like Moxie,Money, Pegasus,Bonnie Parker,Energize,
Flight Machine and many others.Hope to see more stuff like this wish I had video.Glad I have cd at least.A big Hi to all From the band that did Tull and Zep. Jack Kolber drummer ARETY
OMG! Did you bring back memories of clubs and bands I had forgotten. I too was there for those summers. What a blast! I used to see the Kids and Cobra at the Hurricane East.Ahh, those were the days!!
What CD are you talking about and where can I get it????
Brings back memories of the "Galaxy" and "Bonnies Rocks." Great Post!!! The Galaxy in Somerdale went to Cover Club, Alternative Life Style bar and is now a Pet Store/Bird Store.... Life goes on....
The Dead End Kids now live on YOUTUBE. Thanks again.
Sorry to say, no. It was on one of the reels I shot during one of our set breaks. We only got about a 20 minute break, so that included the time it took to run up the street and get in other clubs.
meh what about other bandsu cant just say hte invented it there have been other bands doing awsomeness things o.oto so i cant really give credit for something i havent seen of haerd from them not that they need it
but i don't like metal o.o i'm your regular post-punk goth rock kid ^_^ i've never heard van halen except from d.o.a. remaking one of there songs and i don't like it :S ill stick to sex gang children and christian death ^_^ and he dose look like wanna be suit up adam ant cant lie about that -.- for some reason :S
Keep in mind, this was twenty seven years ago. Long before "punk" or "goth" existed as an established format. The kids dared to do things that no other band had done. The look they invented had not been seen before. It's easy to try to pigeon-hole them into some category now, but those categories did not exist when the kids were around. They invented the look. And that's the point. They were the first. Try being the first to do anything. That's what they had the balls to do.
Well said JD! We were there to see them, but those who didn't just don't understand the Kids. And this short snipet doesn't represent them as they really were. He said he was a "post-punk goth rock kid" but his profile says he's 56 yrs old. And from Bolivia, which explains the attempt at English. I barely understand what he means. Do you have any more videos of them?
doesn't sound goth what so ever he looks like a gay version of Adam Ant -.- and the song is gay maybe the ending riff before he start singing sounded faintly goth :S is trying to like play a gay post-punk or something dude cause Sex Gang and Psychic Tv sound totally better :S this band sounds like a stereo typical new wave band =/
Well for starters, they were not a goth band and I don't know why this guy listed them that way. I was there that summer of 1981 and saw them every weekend. They were a hard rock/metal band although this song does not represent that. The song is by Van Halen so I don't know where the gay thing comes in. They played mostly originals but threw in some covers. I wish someone would post some other videos to better represent this band.
Does anyone have anymore footage of the Dead End Kids. I just tried this and thought there is no way they are gonna be on here, but here they are. It's just the guitar goes out in this song, and does not give any really clue to just how bad ass these guys were.
I looked and couldn't find anything else on here. I check all the time so I'll let you know if I find anything else. Lots of people used to film them, so someone please post it.
Hurricane East, Wildwood NJ summer 1981 ROCKED with the kids. What an awesome summer with Georgie,Kelley, Bill & Tommy. Those were the greatest nights EVER!! What a blast from the past.
Rat Skates led me here...Overkill took a bit of inspiration from these guys with the image back in their early days. This is great.

i dont think so. i dont remember you sorry ahah. georgie rumbol is good lol.
how old are you?

If someone were going to lie online to impress people, they would probably not choose a band most people (sadly) have never heard of.
Also it's funny how someone simply says it's nice to see her dad's band uploaded on youtube, and gets thumbs downs for that.

Peace,
Gino

Hey JD?? Got anything else by the Kids??
TommyShawRox 4 years ago
Sorry to say, no. It was on one of the reels I shot during one of our set breaks. We only got about a 20 minute break, so that included the time it took to run up the street and get in other clubs.

meh what about other bandsu cant just say hte invented it there have been other bands doing awsomeness things o.oto so i cant really give credit for something i havent seen of haerd from them not that they need it
Daka12s 4 years ago
but i don't like metal o.o i'm your regular post-punk goth rock kid ^_^ i've never heard van halen except from d.o.a. remaking one of there songs and i don't like it :S ill stick to sex gang children and christian death ^_^ and he dose look like wanna be suit up adam ant cant lie about that -.- for some reason :S
Daka12s 4 years ago
Keep in mind, this was twenty seven years ago. Long before "punk" or "goth" existed as an established format. The kids dared to do things that no other band had done. The look they invented had not been seen before. It's easy to try to pigeon-hole them into some category now, but those categories did not exist when the kids were around. They invented the look. And that's the point. They were the first. Try being the first to do anything. That's what they had the balls to do.
JDfromWitness 4 years ago
Well said JD! We were there to see them, but those who didn't just don't understand the Kids. And this short snipet doesn't represent them as they really were. He said he was a "post-punk goth rock kid" but his profile says he's 56 yrs old. And from Bolivia, which explains the attempt at English. I barely understand what he means. Do you have any more videos of them?
lepfan4evr 4 years ago
doesn't sound goth what so ever he looks like a gay version of Adam Ant -.- and the song is gay maybe the ending riff before he start singing sounded faintly goth :S is trying to like play a gay post-punk or something dude cause Sex Gang and Psychic Tv sound totally better :S this band sounds like a stereo typical new wave band =/
Daka12s 4 years ago

By the way, I heard that Tommy Carter died several years back from cancer. Anyone know if this is indeed the fact?
