Awesome catch as always Owensri2. beautiful pair of Norfolk Southern EMD SD series locomotives...I want to say SD70M-2's, but am not entirely sure. The flasher relays on the mast closest to you are damn near shot, hopefully they have been repaired since this video was shot.
There are a couple of videos of British type rail crossings on youtube.
About the preemption amber light - well unlike American trains who would use their horns to alert road users that a train is about to cross, ours don't usually use horns when they are above to cross.
There is no need to sound horns when approaching level crossings with signals or signals with gates.
When the horn is first sounded, the locomotive bell automatically starts ringing and the lighted ditch lights start wigwagging (flashing alternately).
Some crossings can be designated "Quiet Zones" if they have gates blocking all lanes of a road in both directions.
I think that the cold weather and a train going though a working class community downriver makes for a good video, keep up the good work man I love these videos.

Nice catch, also.
Thank you, owen.
Hatelectonic bells.
Buthey are probably more audible to people withearing deficits.
And they have no contacts which erode and wear out. (I own a crossing signal bell.)
Can thelectonic bells be aimed down the street so less sound to the side where not needed and becomes noise pollution?
Glad we don't use the "bee-boo" sounds used in Europe.

@robertgift
Are you referring to the Yodel alarms we use in the UK? I live next to one and it's DRIVING ME UP THE WALL.
But one thing I like about ours (UK) is our preemption amber lights on them.
NeoFalcon69 2 years ago
Is the Yodel the "bee-boo-bee-boo..." sounding alarm?
Hate them, too.
I see no need for the amber light.
At US "level crossings" with gates, they allow 6 seconds before the gates begin to descend.
In China, they have a BLUE lamp below the two red lights.

It is on constantly. If out, the signal is dead. No power.

Americans like a good show.

@robertgift
Is there restrictions on the horns during the night?
NeoFalcon69 2 years ago
@robertgift
Oh yes I seen a couple examples in Finland - good idea especially in areas where power supplies isn't reliable.

I swear it sounds like the second crossings bells sound like a hybrid but none are in sight!
TommyBNSF 4 years ago
Yeah, it kind of does, but nope, no hybrid bells at this crossing. :)
owensri2 4 years ago
Are there any Hybrid Bells in Wyandotte (besides the one you have)?
TWCFanChris 3 years ago
Yep, one at the St. Johns crossing, and two left at the Pennsylvania Rd. crossing.
owensri2 3 years ago
Which part of the Pensylvania Rd. crossing has one?
TWCFanChris 3 years ago
Two of the four inner signals owned by Conrail do. You probably can see this from Google street view.

is the right gate light is incandescent? the other two look like leds!!
whammy3323 4 years ago
Yep, the right gate light is incandescent. I hate how the lights flash unevenly, with the left side staying on longer then the right...
owensri2 4 years ago
I HATE THAT TOO!!! Are there also GS Type 1 & 2 there at the crossing? The sounds collided and sound like it...
