First time I hear this amazing song not with Barbra, but I can say this interpretation also fantastic! The choir, the dancers and especially the singer's beautiful voice - magical interpretation. Thank you for the uploader!
I disagree/ This song is not an pop art disign for scene/ This is deepest soul cry not a melodrama/ It is nice when articts try to experiment but those need highest level of performanse/ and this is a problem/ average one can not be a giant!
Greetings from Germany south (Lake Constance) Shalom alechem. This prayer is so intensive, but from here and Barbra Streisand (on 4.12. we have in Germany Barbara Name-day) best interpretation. My woman hear this in this morning 4, 5 and more times.
@dardar505 As much as I admire the vocal power and precision of Ms. Streisand, what make THIS version untouchable is the sincerity with which this woman sings. When Ms. Barbara sings, it is for Ms. Barbara. When Ms. Noa sings, it is for G-D. Ms. Barbara has openly rejected the ways of G-D; may she find her way home, before it is too late.
@josbo51715 Not in the least. My comment about Ms. Streisand first PRAISED her vocal talents and then restated, what she has said herself. The Word of God TELLS us to judge by the FRUITS of the Spirit. If one does NOT display the fruits, then one is not of God. Judgment means to cast SENTENCE on a person. I have done no such thing.
@KatherineBenElohim Infinite Being holds Streisand in His consciousness of goodness and completeness. She is already "home." The ways of Elohim is LOVE.
@Lovingvictory1 The Ways of Elohim insist we obey the rules, aka Laws of Man and Nature. Love is an action and has nothing to do with, ignoring sin. Elohim can not ignore sin; He loves us, so He CORRECTS us. She openly lives in sin and has not repented. When you have children, you understand the true nature of love.
Avinu Malkeinu is on of the most sacred of Jewish prayers. This melody is particularly sung during the high holy days, and is ususally one of the most stirring and emotional points of the service ususally sung by a cantor, and due to the difficulty of the song, almost impossible to sing without an incredible range...Noa has such a voice as does Streisand. Kudos to both...
Lovely, but what in the world makes this Barbra Streisand's? She's not singing it, and she certainly had nothing to do with the melody or the words (liturgical). Strange!
Barbara Streisand sang this on a cd not that long ago. Maybe someone heard it on youtube from the album and didn't realize it from the yom kippur and is from the bible scriptures. I think Michai but I could be wrong. if you see Barbaras version someone posted the bible scriptures.
Also maybe the best video I ever saw on youtube is Barbara Streisand at the 30th Israeli celebration inteviewing Golda Meir as Well singing HaTikva.Wow I actually teared up which is rare for me
Her name is NOA she's had many albums in Europe. we used to go see her in Greece and israel all the time. heard she's working on her album for the states. Im excited!
As another poster noted, the title "Barbra Streisand's Avinu Malkeinu..." is ridiculous; is it possible to edit titles after posting videos here? If so, please do so; otherwise, a pretty nice video.
Hi Milkyleah, thank you for your comment. if you read the entire title it DOES mention the amazing composer Max Janowsky! just to give you an example, you don't see Mr. David Foster's song, or any other composer for that matter, having a song up there titled"David Foster's song"...but you WILL see a title such as: "Josh Groban's The Prayer"...). We respect Mr. Janowsky's work and therefor PROUDLY posted his name as part of the title. enjoy the music.
I think the question is not whether to credit the actual composer in the title, but why Streisand is associated with this particular video. If it's only because she also sang the song, then the title is misleading -- it's not "her" song (either in sense of composition or performance).
@fiestahere Thank you for sharing the translation. I am Jewish but don't know Hebrew, just a a few words. I only recently traced my roots back to a Jewish grandmother on my father's side and a Jewish grandmother on my mother;s side. I am seriously thinking, regardless of the unrest in the mid-East, of making aliyah. Again, thanks for sharing. Shalom
Janowsky served as music director of a Chicago synagogue from 1938 until his death in 1991. He was born in Berlin in 1912 and came to Ameica in 1937. Besides being a noted composer, he took voice students, including Sherill Milnes and Isola Jones. His Avinu Malkeinu is, I think, from 1967.
BARBRA STREISAND'S ?!?!? Give me a break. This is composer Max Janowsky's Avinu Malkeinu. It's a standard of the Jewish Choral repertoire, has been ever since he wrote it many decades ago. (His other standard choral battle-ax is his "Sim Shalom"). Barbra is one of a zillion people who have recorded this, and is not the best nor most authentic (in terms of performance practice) version. Perhaps many non-Jews heard it first from her recording?

a lot of HUZPA is needed to make a cover to Streisand's song. Very poor version.

Avinu Malkeinu means our father, our king
Hear our prayer
We have sinned before thee
Have compassion upon us and upon our children
Help us bring an end to pestilence, war, and famine
Cause all hate and oppression to vanish from the earth
Inscribe us for blessing in the book of life
Let the new year be a good year for us
