It does. I've been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa for almost 5 years now. I look at myself in the mirror and see someone else, a fat blooated disgusting person who somewhat resembles me. Its called body dysmorphic disorder. You see tiny things that in your mind are hugely exaggerated, or you even see things that arent even there. If i look in the mirror and i look at a new picute of myself I see 2 different people. I dont let people take my picture anymore. The contrast is too scary.

There is nothing glamorous about an ED. Fashion models may have it, so you think its the new thing... but you cant see their feeding tubes and diapers under those trendy clothes. This isnt living, its subsisting. People with BDD and Anorexia have an 80% suicide rate... I tried twice, unsucessfully. I would trade ANYTHING for a chance to live without this... but I cant. Anyone who thinks this is a choice needs to go FUCK THEMSELVES. This isnt living, Its a living hell.
JDobs92, I'm so sorry you feel that bad. You are correct that neither anorexia nervosa, nor BDD are choices. To have both must be terrible. Recovery IS very hard, and some people don't manage it. I am still in recovery after 30 yrs of anorexia and fight every day. I have gained a lot of weight (>30 pounds) but I still struggle with anxiety, depression and OCD. I wish you well...

Many people with ED's are actually somewhat "normal" looking,and it's their "secret." I mean yeah,I guess the creators of this figured they had to show something like that to make a point,but I also think it's sort of misleading,because it leads people to believe that a person isn't sick or doesn't have an ED/eating issues unless they're nearly dead,which is simply not true.
Something that irritates me that it takes something THAT extreme just to raise people's awareness of the prevalence of eating disorders.What a lot of people don't realize is that not ALL cases are that extreme;someone doesn't necessarily have to be severely emaciated like that to have an eating disorder.ED's are more mental illnesses than physical,despite what a lot of people may think.

I beg to differ. Anorexia and bulimia has been aroundd for thousands on years. Anorexia was first identified as an illness in the 1600s, LONG before the advent of mass media. Research also suggests that these disorders that genetic and neurobiological links.

Something that irritates me that it takes something THAT extreme just to raise people's awareness of the prevalence of eating disorders.What a lot of people don't realize is that not ALL cases are that extreme;someone doesn't necessarily have to be severely emaciated like that to have an eating disorder.ED's are more mental illnesses than physical,despite what a lot of people may think.

The girl in the mirror actually has a really attractive body size. She looks nice and curvy - feminine. *shrugs* Might just be my PoV though.

I mean, they show a fine body like "see? this girls just THINKS she has that ugly body, but she is to thin", like what is in the mirror is a fat girl.

People who are anorexic are just weak and stupid. Thinking that it's a sickness is weak also. People who can't take care of themselves are not people. This includes overly obese people who eat themselves to the point. it's ridiculous how we have sympathy for "people" who aren't aware of themselves enough to know that they are hurting themselves. It's dumb.

it's a sickness, a mental one, like the depression, but it affects the person's mind by brainwashing of the media, mostly.

I beg to differ. Anorexia and bulimia has been aroundd for thousands on years. Anorexia was first identified as an illness in the 1600s, LONG before the advent of mass media. Research also suggests that these disorders that genetic and neurobiological links.

if that's the case, then they are more than likely not anorexic. they are taking on anoretic behaviors which is completely different from truly having the disorder.

I have anorexia and have been diagonsed.
I wouldn't admit it to people I know but yes I do know Im thin but I want to be thinner.
This is very much so the same for people on a forum I use.
Put it this way if an anorexic checks her bmi it'll say 'underweight' .. therefor she knows she is underweight but still wants to be thinner

I think that it depends on the individual : some annorexic sure realise that they're really thin. what they don't realise at first is the eating disorders. some think they're fat (at this point, it's no eating disorder, it's crazyness + eating disorder) but they're skinny ...

I gotta say this video does a great job. When I first saw it I thought "oh, that girl's not big, she's cute!" then when the camera pulled away to reveal the girl looking into the mirror I was shocked! I had to watch it a few times just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
