Hi Eddie! I have loved watching the Hall and Oates Musikladen performances for years. You are an exceptional drummer who has a lot of energy and passion. I always wanted to tell you that i think you were the best drummer Hall and Oates ever had! Why did you guys part ways? They should get you back like tomorrow!
@wrestlingcircuit1995 That guitarist is Todd Sharp, These clips were from the same show but one set was from 1976 and the other is from 1977. Todd is in both, he just changed the way he looked. You'll also notice I'm playing 2 different drum sets and is one lineup we have the addition of longtime sax player, Charlie DeChant.
@ezyne Thanks, I was also trying to find the song where you go crazy on the ride cymbal through the entire song. Can't remember if it's Gino or Room To Breathe.
@ezyne Nicely done Bob.. This has a clear fusion influence goin on..IE Steely Dan not as pop as much of their stuff really well shot as well...for live the mix is really great... I love seeing a lot of that older equipment especially the keyboards and those Music Man Amps..thanks for the link..
That is what music is all about right there. Everything in its place and everyone playing to serve the overall idea of the song. It's cool to be flashy and show off your best licks sometimes, but for me nothing compares to laying down a great groove and everything around me just falls into its natural place. It's just so cool!
Eddie, thanks so much for posting these Musikladen performances. Amazing drumming by the way. It must have been a riot working with Daryl, John and Charlie during the 70s. Thanks again! Where are you playing nowadays?
@carolloveskiwis I'm currently playing with the original bass player of Foghat in a group called Tony Stevens SLOW RiDE along with the lead singer/songwriter/guitarist from my own band The Livesays. I'm on tracks 16 through 19 of Disc 1 of the new Hall & Oates Box Set. This is still my favorite show to play even after playing with Foghat and The Monkees.
@ezyne Thanks Eddie for the info. I do have the box set, and will listen more carefully, now I know you're playing. I used to love Foghat (am a huge Todd fan and loved the Bearsville acts) and so glad your playing with Tony. Look forward to you guys playing the NYC area.
OMG....I heard this album back in like '74 for the first time. Skipping school, partying. I told the guy...."This is TODD" ...he said no, then I checked the album. I was on the right track!
This is their long lost GEM!!!!!! Thanks for posting this...it rocks!
I can't get enough of this video. Those vocal harmonies are sooo tight, that organ solo make me want to cry tears of joy, and Mr. Zyne's drumming... don't even get me started (its in my 5 top favorite things in the whole world)
Holy Cow! You're right, it is on iTunes. That's amazing. War Babies always felt like their long lost step child of an album. So cool, no more people can discover its wonder and be amazed. Now they just need to add 'X Static' to complete it.
This track isn't on iTunes like this, but this version of the band is on the newly released 4 CD Box Set called "Do What You Want, Be What You Are". The last 5 tracks on disc 1 are from a previously unreleased live concert from the 1st time we played London. It sounds the best I've ever heard us play those songs.
@ezyne I love the tunes on the boxset!!! Makes the kid/fans who missed you in the 70's feel like we were there....I love it!!! You guys sure had a chemistry!!! Keep on putting that heartbeat to the music...love you Eddie!!
Absolutely beautiful. Everything in this performance just grooves so amazingly. But does someone know what that "organ" used in the solo is, it doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before. Sounds way cool though. Thanks for posting this great video!
I was playing an old organ-type keyboard on the solo in that video...made by Yamaha...I think it was called the Dream Mahine at the time...and I think Stevie Wonder played one alot too in those days. Thanks for your inquiry, David Kent
Thanks for the info! Being a fan of vintage instruments, especially keyboards, these kinds of things interest me a lot. Great soloing too! Cheers and take care.
@ccrook2001 who was the guitar player? i love the way he plays and his get-up is just as good. love your organ work too, especially on the live version of lady rain. you guys were a phenomenal live band, probably my favorite i've seen play live with hall & oats.
The guys always sound great when they duet :)
