  • i always thought anyone singing Hallelujah except Leonard Cohen wouldn't be quite right. I officially take this back.

  • she cracks the heart so effortlessly, DEFENSES DOWN!!!!

  • Makes a man think....

  • come check out my cover of samson by regina!! :)

  • If only Regina and Jeff Buckley had made babies what an amazing voice would have came from that child, I can only dream maybe in heaven after all that's where they both came from.

  • Her phrasing is beautiful! Stunning... a truly unique take on this timeless classic.

  • I so wish I could tie my love to the kitchen chair and cut his hair, that day will draw the most amazing Hallelujah.

  • Damn! This song was already spectacularly heart wrenching before the best singer in the world, Regina Spektor went and sung it.

  • i love her version it`s so cute like her , beautiful

  • bjork much?

  • Where's the honor in that? Treat this woman with respekt, she is a lady.

    And...

This is really beautiful, I like that she personally chooses not to do polished studio versions, she always does them with genuine performance, you hear a little mistake or two but that's what makes it have vaule. How many other singers can say that? :)

  • This is a beautiful song, paired with Regina Spektor's beautiful voice. Love it.

  • Her Hallelujah at 0:58. Amazing

  • about 5:05 and 0:06, cough or sneeze? xD

  • Pfft....i can do that!...hehe...ahh who im kiddin?

  • Goosebumps everywhere.

  • this is way too beautiful.

  • jeff buckley made this song art. regina spektor made this a masterpiece.

  • this song is beautiful but i love it more when regina sings it

  • <3

  • Within 30 seconds of listening to this, I was in tears. Regina makes me want to paint a masterpiece while sitting in a sunlit bathtub with blue candles. :D

  • @caseykwilson

I know what you mean, but this comment still made me giggle :)

  • @TheMadmickk How about you try it then.

  • crap...now i wanna see that dumb*ss @letinja 's comment

  • I already loved this song before, but her version is even more beautiful. <3 :')

  • once again I must comment music is a form of ART we as musicians and lovers of music and art will take from this and every piece of music and every peice of art you come across whether it be the clouds or how the leaves are falling and yes you will see I'm not using any punctuation because i'm yelling here from my heart and my head...It's art it's beauty you it's a from of indidual expression and you you and you will see feel touch taste and grasp something different that's the point...LIVE

  • god she had such a great voice but the hesitancy not from lack of confidence but by choice is just unpleasant

  • god she had such a great voice but the hesitancy not from lack of confidence but by choice is just unpleasant

  • If she sung it faster it be beyond perfect...

  • That's why I love listen to regina's lives performances. If I close my eyes I can easily see her performing with her piano. Beautiful.

  • For Regina Spektor, "It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah" -- and no singer, male or female, does a better job of conveying a worldweary take on this song. Regina tears me up! Also, as a female singer, she has the good sense to leave out the verse which begins: "Well, there was a time when you let me know / What's really going on below..." -unintentionally comical in the mouth of a lady singer. Miss Spektor's never seduced by the hypnotic beauty of the melody: her phrasing is perfect.

  • @JacksonCoates Sorry, but if you think Regina is more "worldweary" than Leonard Cohen...I question if you know what the word means. No one does this song better than Cohen, but that is to be expected. He wrote it.

  • @tristhan1181 - I know very well what "worldweary" means. I never said that, personally, Regina was more worldweary than Cohen. I was writing about the emphasis on "broken Hallelujahs" in Regina's performance of the song. I don't think Regina's better than Cohen at his singing best; I believe that she's his equal in the "dark" performance of this song. You seem to believe that a song's writer is, necessarily, it's best performer. Would you make this claim for Bob Dylan and his songs?

  • such beauty

  • love this song:)

  • how can anyone NOT like this?????

  • If someone can sing a broken Hallelujah, it's her. I always shudder when I listen to her songs.

  • I'm not generally a fan of the infinite number of covers of this song, but Spektor actually managed to wow me here.

  • She can do no wrong, she says part of the song but says it with inflection and then pairs it with beautiful singing. I applaud you to the fullest extent, Regina Spektor.

  • She's indisputably versatile. She could approach this song and dozens others infinitely at ease. It was rough, yeah, but brilliant to hear her potential and her voice capture this with innocuous confusion. I'm sure if she were to have done or were to do a studio version of this, that it'd be beyond immaculate.

  • Finally, one of my favorite singers covers my favorite song.

  • my favorite versions of this:

    1. Jeff Buckley

    2. Regina Spektor

    so much talent!

  • @0LittlemissLola no jeff buckley leonard cohen rule fuck this

  • I like the Leonard Cohen.

    amidoinitrite?

  • This song is amazing :) so much love for Regina Spektor right now!

  • she has really big boobs in that picture O.O

  • @sTapleEVA she always has big boobs...she just doesn`t show it.

  • @idotributes oh, well thats good! i listen to music with my ears not my eyes :D but god damb those are like fricken basketballs! :D

  • I like when Regina plays with the timing of words, but I feel like she did it a bit too much in this one. She still nailed the emotion of it, but I'm gonna keep Buckley's version at the top of my list for now.

  • Regina's voice is so comforting!

  • woooooooooooow! love her

  • This is my joint favourite version of this song with Jeff Buckley's. If Regina doesn't record this properly and make it available for download or put it on an album, it will be a crime.

  • she has a beauuutiful voice

  • I am a complete Jeff Buckley ally but this is BEAUTIFUL

  • boo

  • B E A U T I F U L L!!

  • It seems like wherever good music is to be found, Regina Spektor will follow.

  • @thatblondguy33 you have it backwards, good music follows regina everywhere she goes.

  • This is, without a doubt, my favourite version of this song. I like it more than even the original--let the flaming commence for that comment--and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so. Regina Spektor is definitely my single favourite female songwriter/artist with several others coming close, but no longer even fit to tie.

  • Such a talented fucking women, I swear.

  • beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah.Beautiful.She always puts another dimension to everything she sings.

  • I saw this video and thought "Hell yes! My fave song and artist in the same conveniant package! What a refreshment." *creepyface*

  • i just love regina spektor so much . so much emotion and effort in all her songs . good to still have ''real'' music in a world of synthetic drum pads

  • amazing ! <3

  • For those who are new to Regina Spektor:

Welcome. Welcome to our World. REgina's world, where souls are healed and hearts mended by this beautiful, quirky, special woman's voice.

  • @appleh26 gay

  • @appleh26

For those who are new to Regina Spektor:

Enjoy your time. It's only a first once.

  • @appleh26 REgina SPEKTor

  • nice ay

  • I'm typically loyal to the Jeff Buckley version, but wow this one is amazing.

  • @albertwatts1996

    Brownie Points for high vocabulary.

  • I LOVE IT!!!!! She made the song better to me.

  • Scratch that, KD Lang also up there. Equal billing to all three then?

  • I'm torn between this and Rufus Wainwright athough she is fantastic and can't wait to see her live again

  • pfft. come on regina..

  • kate voegele has a wonderful cover as well. they're both beautiful! <3

  • this version ALWAYS makes me cry. I love you, Regina ♥

  • This is so ethereal.

  • I'm so glad she covered this song. It's one of my favourites! The first time I heard Samson, it reminded me of this song! Both are so beautiful!

  • You are perfect regina

  • Loving this...But my fave is still Imogen Heaps' :)

  • @pinkscotch Imogen's is really good, but I wish she had done all the verses. There's so much meaning taken out of it without those verses.

  • such emotion that's the thing i most love about Regina apart from various other things

  • This song makes me shiver.

  • By far better than K.D. Lang's version. Nothing against K.D. at all, but this has a WOW factor like Jeff Buckley and Leonard's own versions of this timeless song for the ages. Thank you for posting this, and yes I think that this honors Jeff and Leonard Cohen equally.

  • This is a truly beautiful and unique version of this great classic. Regina's voice is incredible - perfection!

  • pure beauty

  • music is about breaking boundaries and occasionally pissing everyone off just so they know not to get too comfortable, so if you dont like it, or you do like it, its perfect.

  • awesome song, butt...still doesn't beat Jeff Buckleys rendition,,,IN MY HUMBLE PINION

  • @monicadiamond9 so? I don't think she's trying to do that

  • yes she does have big boobs, and you know what she also has the biggest voice ever. in my world, im married to regina. no homo :)

  • I don't know how, but you can always tell that it's Regina singing, she has a beautiful voice and it's very distinctive :D LOVE THIS!

  • Does anyone remember Leonard Cohen, who actually wrote the song? For me, his version is the best :)

  • she has big boobs

  • I get really sick of people only covering the lines Jeff Buckley covers.

And even though it all went wrong

I'll stand before the Lord of Song

with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah

  • @IlluvitarEru I agree with this. I sing those versus, they just take my breath away.

  • 62 people don't know how to control their mouse.

  • An aquarius just like myself!! Age of Aquarius baby!!! I liked how this year at the grammy's the artists actually sang live! But they couldn't come even close to this. True talent. Screw hollywood. They don't deserve Regina <3

  • This is a truly Great rendition of the Classic and I like to think that she makes it her own. Afterall Regina is such a classic herself on this her birthday. Happy Birthday Regina. X GBR X

  • Why does her voice always have to be so incredibly haunting and strange?

  • her voice is so pure and so original. so stunning.

  • @letinja no, i think YOU should stick to two birds.

shes from moscow, and then the bronx, so she can do whatever the fuck she wants.

  • @justforthesparks This made me laugh so hard. Thanks so much for this.

  • @justforthesparks hehe, from love you're a whore

  • @justforthesparks

True. She can sing whatever she whats. No matter where she came from.

  • @justforthesparks - REALLY? - WOW !

  • @justforthesparks

Hahaha, yeah, I hadn't really considered that, but if that doesn't give you street cred, I'm not sure what would!

  • @letinja her version is weird? thats the greatest part about her music.

  • @letinja Two Birds should stick you with their beaks. Her version is beautiful, just because it's not all poppy and perfect like Rufus Wainwright's, doesn't make it any worse; actually, quite the contrary.

  • This is really a FANTASTIC cover, it really expresses the spirit of the song, and Regina's spirit even more.

  • I would like her music better if she didnt sound so fragile all the time, she can sing, Im just not a fan of the whole almost talking thing she does.

  • I'm very bias towards this song since I love the Jeff Buckley version so much, but I must admit, this version is beautiful.

  • 52 people are twats.

  • Wow

  • Regina Spektor, is just god damn amazing, and just, her voice,, it 's just so flowing and beautiful, and emotional <3

  • Even, though she changes the song up in her own way, her voice is so elegant and perfect, in my opinion. (:

  • @coffeemakesmehigh good opinion :)

  • How can anyone be making such hateful comments? Does it really make you feel any better? I don't understand why anyone would want to hurt another human being. We all just want to live our lives and if we were all just respectful and reasonable with one another, this would be so. Anyways, this is such a beautiful cover sung by such a miraculous woman.

  • @smileforthecamera21 for some reason all the people on here are extremely vicious, and you wouldn't think that would be the case on a regina spector youtube video comment board. i left a comment on here over three months ago and am still getting shit about it, go figure.

  • What a truly wonderful version of this song, it certainly couldn't be better. Regina's voice cannot be better, what a voice, what a lady! GBR

  • so, people are stupid...

but she's not. she's just kickass.

    but people are stupid.

  • The voice of an angel and the body of Christina Hendricks (for sin).

  • beautiful voice

  • she is just speaking? is that just me?

  • @emcm01 yea

  • @emcm01 listen to the whole thing before you mouth off :P

  • @emcm01 nope, singing. can u hear the notes?

  • It's not a friggin video, what's it doing here. Oh, morons galore ...

  • @jozafax I think you mean REgina SPEKTor

  • does anyone know where I could download this? I'm not a total cheapskate, I'm willing to pay for it too?

It's just so gorgeous, I want it on my Ipod :) but Regina's version isn't on itunes

  • it's not bad, but the best version will always be Jeff Buckley's

  • I stumbled on this accidentally, great version!! oh and her breasts are lovely

  • She has listened to Leonard Cohen singing this song more than the innumerable (and admirable) covers. The declamatory way she sings the first few couplets --- she knows what it's all about, and clearly is kin. She understands what it is to be a songwriter. Stellar.

  • perfectly amazing

  • The 46 people who disliked this have no souls.

  • Sziia. te nem magyar vagy? (:

  • @michaelofGB45 Loads of artists have covered this song. Of course they're going to change the melody a little. This one is more faithful to the original than quite a few I've heard though. Or did you think Jeff Buckley's version was the original?

  • @lloydismyname goddamnit your kind of right, i just listened to cohan's version and yeah i feel like an ass. i knew leonard cohan wrote the original and am fan, but yeah i've always listened to buckly's version. anyway thanks for pointing that out, you may have saved me some future embarrassment.

  • @michaelofGB45 Well aren't you charming? Make a comment about how its bad and then comment about how great her tits are. Why don't you grow a dick and shut the fuck up. You don't know what good music is, could be, and ever was. Would you be more entertained watching another artist sound exactly like the original or see what a talented artist can do with the already brilliant song? Change isn't bad in music and you shouldn't be a little bitch about it.

  • @BelowVegasStars grow a dick? i have a dick, a nice big fat vainy one.

and you say i "Made a comment about how its bad"? why don't you grow a brain and then re-read my first 2 comments and then you'll find i was stating this would have been the best version in my opinion had she stuck to the original melody, i liked her other changes

oh and this is a comment board for commenting on videos.

her titties are huge and i wanted to comment.

i am aloud to do that.

i'm sure miss spektor won't mind.

  • @michaelofGB45

Allowed, not "aloud." And Buckley, not "buckly," you dolt.

  • @michaelofGB45

Also, I suppose you meant veiny (which is still not a real word) and not "vainy," but then again, since you seem to be an idiot of such high degree, maybe vanity is what you were aiming for.

  • Comment removed

  • @michaelofGB45 respect.

  • @jozafax thank you

  • @michaelofGB45 You're an idiot.

  • @heyharlot how am i an idiot?

  • @michaelofGB45 because you haven't yet realised how much of a twat hey harlot actually is, c'mon get wih the program Mike!

  • @MrRufusthethief yes, yes i suppose you're right, i do feel like quite the idiot, questioning myself "how am i an idiot", when i knew damn well i smelled twat the instant i opened heyharlot's message. oh well, live and learn huh...

    ...hahaha, thanks man!

  • @michaelofGB45 LOLOLOLOLOL. I can't take you seriously when you cannot spell the simplest of words as well as making up your own. Thank you fellow youtubers for pointing out his idiocy. :D Anyhow, michaelofGB45/stupidassidiot you are incredibly rude and disrespectful. I read your comment, which is why I replied, obviously. >.< AND you can't grow a brain, it's physically impossible. So that's just awkward as hell.

Your opinion is found on no actual evidence thus is inaccurate and irrelevant.

  • @BelowVegasStars "I can't take you seriously when you cannot spell the simplest of words" - you

yeah thats logical, lets just go ahead and discredit the theory of relativity, and all winston churchill's literary works as well while we're at it.

like i said, THIS IS A COMMENT BOARD, not a fucking english class. and you're welcome, i'm happy to spread the awareness. i'm not a genius, just an average joe that enjoys leisurely whatching/commenting on youtube videos in his spare time. thanks!

  • @michaelofGB45 "oh and this is a comment board for commenting on videos." THANK YOU. I WASN'T AWARE. You, sir, are a genius.

  • Leonard Cohen wrote this beautiful song but Regina breathed life into it. I already loved this song, but this version has to be my favorite ever.

  • Took my breath away. . .

  • I have never heard anything so beautiful in my life.

  • This is beautiful.

  • i like it, but jeff buckley version is the most beatiful version in the world!

  • @izqkro AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.

  • @izqkro true,true
