@xboxaddict1125 Slightly higher :P I didn't feel symptoms of radiation sickness, which is always a plus. :P Kidding aside, there's al sorts of warning signs not to drink the water or camp there. Interesting stuff.
While alphas are essentially helium nucleus' and can't blunder more than an inch through atmosphere (or through paper), they have one heck of an exciting trip for whatever they hit. Inhaling them or ingesting them is a really bad deal. If you're doing this think about disposable gloves and washing your hands a fair amount. Alphas from polonium in his drink are what killed that Russian guy over in England - fried him from the inside out.
You need a detector that counts Alpha radiation too. Alphas are the big problem with uranium. Alphas aren't harmful outside the body. They can't even penetrate a piece of paper....but you don't want to get alpha emitters inside your body, hence the warning about drinking the water. Alphas also don't penetrate the plastic case of your counter; it's probably only giving you beta and gamma readings.

Hey 801 amg nice rip off of my oyler mine video that I posted in aug 2009 get an original idea of your own for a video instead of just copying others, you are unbelievable, a mostly exact copy of what I did prior right down to going from the gates to the outcrop up the wash, I am honored that you liked my idea so much you copied it almost verbatim.
But get a life and some ideas of your own and a better Geiger counter than that krappo thing from the ussr that you were using.
@GREGORYALLENSLOAN Chill your tits mate. Yes, I watched your video before going to the mine, but I did not make a "nice rip of", "copied almost verbatim". Just supposed to be a fun demonstration of a different geiger counter. Christ's sake, who pissed in your cheerios this morning?
@GREGORYALLENSLOAN I'm afraid you're the one that needs to get a lift and stop worrying about people visiting the same sites you have and making similar videos. Let's face it, I could have started at down the wash at the hotspot, and continue to the mine, and you'd still be bitching. I don't want to start a pissing match, let's just leave it at this and go our separate ways, and if I go back and film again, I'll be sure to start elsewhere, as to not "copy" your idea. Have a nice day.
@GREGORYALLENSLOAN and lastly, my "krappo thing from the USSR" isn't from the USSR, it's from the Russian Federation, and it's way better than any American made geiger I have ;)
@801AMG Greaaaat! Will you make a new video when you go there? Explore it! Just take care, because this mine might have some radon, a radioactive gas. Radon is a product of the uranium decay. But go ahead, make a new video! Thoose mines are very very interesting!
Look up "URANIUM ROLL FRONTS", it explains how the uranium ore was formed.

That looks like a great area to explore.
You found an exposed lode of Uranium minerals at the end of the video when your DRSB went nuts!. I would be back there with a pick axe. Nice.

If I went there I would take a small rock. Good test source for a geiger counter.

That's a little bit more than just background radiation levels. I suggest you get the f*** out of there.

Just more one thing. Did you get some uranium ore?
cassiavc 1 year ago
@cassiavc I did. I reached in and got a few chunks.

@801AMG Great! But isn't this mine controlled somehow? Is it necessery to have a kind of license or something?
cassiavc 1 year ago
@cassiavc There's a big grate keeping people out but there's only warning signs so you're pretty much free to do as you please.

@801AMG Seriously? Cool then!

@cassiavc Yep. I'm planning on going back in the next few months.
