I wonder if she'll feel the same way about this when she's 45 and single? Not to sound like a downer because I like her message and she is right. So many single people are made to feel like they are not valuable until they are attached or married. Right now her perspective is fresh coming from a place of realization as a young woman. However, I wonder if she will maintain this perspective if she continues to be single into an older age? Just some food for thought.
@silvery707 It may be easier to be content being single when one is younger. But it is also necessary to actively have that mentality and be cultivating it throughout one's life, so that when you are older or middle aged you don't feel like you NEED to be in a relationship to be worthy.

I'm a bit saddened if people do not really understand what your meaning is, assuming your promoting staying single rather then simply creating a personal locus of control for what will make you happy (for anyone who argues with this video, please look this concept up... heck, wiki it if you feel that will validate you, though you'll fall short of the line).

Of course, you are not saying 'bad things wont happen if you don't want them to' nor 'Avoiding a relationship is what is needed'. You are simply saying (at least from my perspective) 'If you are not in a relationship, if you cannot find 'the one' at this point in time, you can still be happy with yourself.' For myself, I feel that loneliness is a natural human condition. It is aversive to us because we are social creatures, and have lived for a very long time by living in groups.
But it doesn't threaten my life; Being alone will not leave a physical scar. Being with someone for the sake of not being alone is cruel, in my opinion. Being with someone because you care for them, they for you, and each knows 'I can do this on my own – which makes it better you're here', that is simply a symphony of living. The point of the video being single and happy can be true, but not for the rest of your life. I enjoyed being single as an university student. I could concentrate on my exams and have fun in life. But with work everything changed and it was time for a wife and kids. Singlessness is relative, means dependent from life situation and not vice versa.

i agree in one point that you can be happy even if you are single, sure, but to stay single forever should not be the goal. I was single for a very long time of my life and sure i was happy and i could concentrate on my education. But one thing was clear for me, to finish universtiy and then to get married and to have kids. I named you why. The glory of friends is that you can always make more of them. The only thing that it takes is going out and being sociable. You can join up with a running club, or a cheese club, or a book club at any age and find interesting, intelligent people to hang out with. True friends do not disappear with age, but it takes effort to maintain friendships. Some people become so focused on their partners and children they let their friendships dry up, then they assume such a thing will happen to everyone.

Brilliant video, very well said. Additionally, not only does stressing relationships as happiness harm the person constantly seeking them, it harms the other person as well. They are given the burden of carrying their partners happiness and making their life complete, something that s incredibly stressful and counterproductive as you can only 'fix' yourself, no one else can do it for you.
If one defines their own happiness based off of her/his relationship status or expectations, then yes this is an issue and shouldn't be the case. At the same time, there's nothing on this earth(friends, family, people around you etc) that can replace the feeling of what it's like to share your love, life, and experiences with another human being intimately.

I love this video! I grew up with unaffectionate parents. They never say i love you or even touch. I always thought that in order to be happy I needed a relationship. I'm glad this video is here. I had a relationship, and when that ended, I went 7 months perfectly happy single, until someone else asked me out. The funny thing is, I felt it too strange and weight bearing to be in another relationship, so I ended it. Being single and happy, not worrying about when, or if I'm going to find someone else, is a lot better than thinking of what another guy would end up expecting of me in the future.

For most people, both good relationships with family members and friends and romantic partners are required for happiness, just as drinking water is required for happiness. Most people are unhappy being single, just as people would be unhappy if they lost their family or friends.

You can join up with a running club, or a cheese club, or a book club at any age and find interesting, intelligent people to hang out with. True friends do not disappear with age, but it takes effort to maintain friendships. Thank you so much for posting this video! I feel like every time I am telling a person about upcoming plans their immediate reaction is "and who knows, you might meet your dream man!" I am 21 years old. Why is meeting my dream man so important? I have no interest in meeting my dream man! I don't believe that my dream man is waiting for me in the next city I am inhabiting! I believe that my next job, new friends, and new experiences are awaiting me there. Again, thank you!

Also, @samcohanun, there is no law that says that a couple has to be married to have children. There's no magic button that's pushed on the wedding night that allows a couple to reproduce. If there were, there wouldn't be any Teen parents. Yes, being married is nice. but its not for everyone. I'm not even sure I WANT to get married because of all of the stupid things that my parents go through. I want kids. But marriage isn't for everyone.

I love this video! I grew up with unaffectionate parents. They never say i love you or even touch. I always thought that in order to be happy I needed a relationship. That's not even close to the truth. To have a good relationship, you need to be comfortable with yourself. And being single is the easiest way to learn about yourself. I'm glad this video is here. I had a relationship, and when that ended, I went 7 months perfectly happy single, until someone else asked me out. The funny thing is, I felt it too strange and weight bearing to be in another relationship, so I ended it. Being single and happy, not worrying about when, or if I'm going to find someone else, is a lot better than thinking of what another guy would end up expecting of me in the future.

I totally agree with you. It's important to realize that you can be happy on your own, and that you don't need someone else to complete you. I'm in a happy relationship right now, but I've been as much happy as a single before!
I find it sad when I see girls jumping from one long relationship to another because they don't have the strength to be on their own. Being single can be very fulfilling when you look at it as a chance to be yourself.

I do not hate people who are in relationship, I am simply trying to point out that companionship does not need to be achieved through one person. For most people, both good relationships with family members and friends and romantic partners are required for happiness, just as drinking water is required for happiness. Most people are unhappy being single, just as people would be unhappy if they lost their family or friends.

REGARDLESS, the point is: there is nothing damaging or unhealthy about becoming secure in yourself and loving those around you, looking for and expecting a significant other can be incredibly damaging.

There is nothing damaging about looking for and expecting a signifigant other. You yourself may not want to, but other people do and they have a right to that desire.

@Ytaker a desire for water is not genetic, it is necessary to stay alive. Having a single, significant other is not necessary to stay alive. While the desire to be loved may be, I'm simply challenging the thinking that it has to come from one single person.
Looking for and expecting a significant other can make someone feel like they are less than if they do not have someone else. I explain it in the video, I'd rather not reiterate myself.

I agree it's bad pushing people into relationships when they'd prefer to be single. But it's equally bad to push people to be single when they prefer to be in a relationship.
