Thats not actually a pacu, it's a red-bellied piranha, pacu's aren't as long, they're more circular shaped, also pacu have a large bright red anal fin.
@iShowist your wrong. i owned a tank full of piranhas... pacus are longer than piranhas. and red belly piranhas have blood red fins on the bottom as well as their eyes are much larger. Piranhas have smaller eyes and dont hold food in their mouth. they bite/tear/rip and swim off.... they dont hold because they have teeth that are razor sharp. Pacus have balded teeth such as our molars... they have to hold their food to crush it to swallow it
@dashina17 starve it for a couple days, it wont die trust me and then throw in some feeder fish and it might not it eat in front of you the first couple times but if starved it will eat alive stuff.
pacus are smei aggresive some ppl cant keep them because wen they get to big they dont know wat to do wih them but u can also feed them worms i keep real live plants in mine
i dont think red belly pacu's are that aggresive the fish is already dead when he put it therei have my red pacu in my community tank and he never touches any other fish i have lots of mollies
i E> PACUS,I HAVE 2 ,I HATE BYING FISH FOOD SO I FEED THEM ANYTHING IN THE FRIDGE,THE BEST THING FOR THEM TO EAT WOULD BE LETIS,CARETS,AND CELLARY OR ANY VEGGIES................ME, I FEED THEM CARRETS,CELLARY,BALONY,HAM,AND BACON..............GOOD FISH
@masterhunter8995 1st balonie ham and bacon are the worst thing to feed them 2nd u probaly feed them veggies with preservatives witch means u fail at keeing fish
they re but that doesnt mean they wont eat meet but sometimes youll get retards that will feed them meet even though it destoys there digestive system
my pacus are about 7 inches now and they wont eat live food, and I often add rosy reds for my cichlids they live with. They only eat pellets and occasional vegatable i put in. Will they when they get bigger or do some just never eat live food?
they're vegetarians, like all vegetarian fish they'll eat meat if it's the only thing available, but it's not healthy for them to have it as a main part of their diet
In the wild, they eat small portions of meat often, but that just consists of sick small and dead fish. they will always eat meat most of the time. But you are right, giving them to much meat will make them unhealthy.
Find somthing else (not saying this to be an anti live food hippie) gold fish have barley any nutrition and can carrey deseases. Pacus also don't need alot of meat feed them dried food vegitabels and maybe some bloodworms or frozen silver side fish. pinkie mice make a better live food than goldfish. Hope this helps a little.
ok i need help i have one piranha red belly and i want to add two more but i dont want the new ones to get attacked do you guys no how to do this help me plzzzzz
eazy peezy lemon squeezy....take the pirahna you have out of your tank and place in a container 4 a couple hours.then put all 3 back into the main tank. your original pirahna will feel like a stranger again once he is placed in the tank again and will have no territory to fight for.
I doubt they can reach 34", but I wouldn't say its impossible. And the size of the tank limiting the size of the fish is a common myth. In most cases it's true, but there's a reason to it. Fish release a toxin called ammonia, this is what we aquarists strive to eliminate. In small tanks, the amount of ammonia can really build up to a high concentration. This stunts the growth of the fish. But fish like snakeheads are not very susceptible to toxins, sometimes they can't even turn in their tanks.
red bellies lose the red and turn black. Therefore people confuse them for black pacu. True blacks are black on the lower half, and a dark greenish color on the top.
No red bellied pacu will max at anywhere near 10 inches, unless something is seriously wrong with it.
this video is a year old but i hope their tank is bigger now cuz they get really really big and shouldn't live in large groups unless you can afford the space they need (which is 55+ gallons PER fish)
man my pacu was exactly like urs, but he couldnt survive in my cichlid tank, any tips on how to help them survive when i get a new one, the one mistake i made was tht the one i bought wasnt very big, but he wasnt the smallest

buy relatively same sized ones or try to ..also if you have a tank divide use it and see how your other one reacts to the new fish in the tank.

Seeing as they turn into 3 foot schooling fish.

freshdinh3 3 years ago
Yes they do.
Google ''adult pacu''
Jeox143 3 years ago
no
not the red bellied kind
and actually the max is 30 inches, attained by a black pacu, which gets twice as big
so for this kind, ur looking at about 10-15 inches on average
amitalegaonkar 2 years ago
no you are wrong i have never seen a 38 lb fish that is 10-15 in but i have seen a 2foot red belly 38lbs
74brandon 2 years ago
im just saying they generally stay from 10-15 inches
same way, you may have seen some people 7 feet tall, but most people don't grow past 6 feet tall
same way
pacus CAN attain 2 feet, but generally stay at a little over 1 foot
amitalegaonkar 2 years ago
i think you are wrong they never quit growing
74brandon 2 years ago
im afraid that completely wrong
haha
never stop growing?
really?
that's kinda retarded...
if that were true, you would encounter pacus the size of whales
do some research buddy
amitalegaonkar 2 years ago
it depends on the size of the tank, they can grow up to 34" or so i've heard, their growth is related to the size of the tank they're in
badassbikerst 2 years ago
