  • i just finished this great novel. it reminded me a little of paul auster's new yourk related novels. still, great writting!

  • An I the only person there who finds him hot?

  • 2:27. HAHAHA

  • What happened? Did she invite them in? Chase them away?

  • He was just riding the gravy train that 9/11 created for greedy authors like himself. I didn't like the book. Not trying to troll but I truly did NOT like how he exploited 9/11.

  • @Laopaspdi if you would understand the true intentions and rich undertone of the book, its pure feeling and its not falsified at all. i studied this book for a very long time since i am an aspiring writer and it was a very personal book on a very professional level. obviously he isn't tied up with his success because he is walking around new york with a broken umbrella. and if you actually paid attention to the video he didn't want to write about 9/11 at all.

  • @alannaarmsrtong1 I said i was not trying to troll, but clearly you did not understand. I am a historian, and my wife DIED during the 9/11 attacks. It was a decent meaning behind the book, but he could have left out 9/11. That's all i am saying. I'm still going to go and see the movie of course (:

  • @Laopaspdi Wow, you're clearly an idiot and didn't understand the book in anyway at all. You didn't like how he exploited 9/11? He barely ever talks about 9/11. The only part when he does is the chapter describing the day for the child. There are things to be angrier about than this amazing novel, and you clearly didn't understand what the meaning of it was.

  • First thing i heard the NMH playing and knew this was going to be awesome.

  • Extremely loud and Incredibly Close is a beautiful, beautiful book. I'm now reading Everything is Illuminated and I already love it. Foer is an amazing writer.

  • i really don't think jonathan was exploiting 9/11 by writing this book. he invented a character and gave it life and in so many ways, he was giving the families who lost a member of their families from 9/11 their own story and voice.

  • So awkward and adorable, perfection.

  • The song is Weezer - some shit I'm too lazy to look up.

  • He seems like a super nice guy, but mannn that must've been awkward meeting that lady at the end hahaha. He should've given her the copy of the book and just said it was promotional.

  • actually the word "black" at 0:38 was written in RED ink...

  • He is my favorite author, this video is a really cool perspective into his novel

  • He seems like a down to earth guy. I read Everything Is, and liked it a lot. I skimmed the one about veganism, but I couldn't bring myself to read the whole thing. The parts I read were way too upsetting. Extremely Close sounds interesting. Why am I writing this? Does anyone care what I think? Whatever. I felt like typing it.

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds I care.

  • @reasonformirrors Thanks. I checked out a couple of your raps. I liked them. 'specially the one named after the great Melora Walters, one of the tragically underused and underappreciated actresses of her generation.

  • What an interesting and optimistic thing to do! I really liked that! Hope Oxana became friends with you Jonathan!

  • ahahaha "miserable day to take pictures!"

  • Nice background music! <3

  • Nice background music! <3

  • EXTREMELY..lol..good book.

Probably one of the books that made me begin to want to write.

  • Like most leftist prodigies, Foer REALLY loves himself and his writing.

"Extremely Loud" is a simple novel which exploits a horrific event to give it gravitas. The reader will find lots of visual gimmicks and a main character who often sounded mentally retarded, but there was no resolution. Most revolting are the final pages which show images of a poor soul jumping from the WTC. Except we're dealing with Foer, and by flipping the pages, the reader sees the victim is actually flying UP.

  • I like the honesty and sincerity of this videoed "search". It feels like a noble (a heartfelt) endeavor and not some overproduced marketing ploy just to push the book....Good job... Now I'm going to read the book. (also, I liked that weird androgynous "Some Guy")

  • The song playing at the end is by Grandaddy and is called A.M. 180

  • omg.. he actually did this! that looks 'swetting'!! I've read it and i thought.. ' what a good way, a practical way to heal the wound.' this book affected me tremendously. i don't know why.. i kind of understood manythings that Oscar intended to do. and i'm really not an english using country person so..hard to say things but... I'd like to meet Mr.Foer. and ..by the way. I love the 'vegetarian scene from Everything's illuminated' at Youtube. you may want to watch it.

  • It's so random I love it!!!!!

  • i LOVE him

  • Lol, goof @ 39 seconds. A big point is made in the novel that the word "Black" was written in red ink, so it was probably a name. In this video it's written in black.

    I love this novel.

  • "okay not on that car, he looked at me funny" lol I love this XD

  • whats the song at the end

  • Great book! I would never have read it except I had to study it for English, but I'm glad I did!

A really emotional yet enlightening book...

  • Ms. Levine anyone?

  • The song at the end was "A.M. 180" by Grandaddy. It's off their album Under the Western Freeway, which is a great record. The song at the first (you may know this, but just in case anyone else is wondering) is an untitled track (but it's track 10) by Neutral Milk Hotel from their album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, which is one of five records I would choose if I could only listen to five albums forever.

  • Haha! Hilarious video. Love JSF.

  • Hey, who was the song at the end by?

  • He extremely doesn't know what he is talking about!

  • @Superstar3330 *He is extremely unsure of what he is talking about, and he spoke incredibly nervously.

  • Come to Texas Mr. Foer. See how beef cattle are raised!!!

  • Mr. Foer doesnt know the difference between dairy cattle and beef cattle. Its obvious he doesn't know what he is talking about. They are raised totally differently. Beef cattle grow up on ranches with windmills, grass, wheat!!!

  • hilarious guys , congrats , was josh also involved in the clip you did on "eating animals" ? - jonathan has a stunning charisma - funny and deeply touching in equal parts - seeing him and reading him alike has the kind of positive energy that can make people somehow wanting to be better persons.... its a deeply human energy he transmits. the guy is growing on me.

  • "it's a miserable day to take pictures".... hahah that guy totally made the video!!

  • haha, "veggie perogies"

  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is extremely beautiful and Incredibly touching

  • This made me very happy!

  • He's hilarious. Haha. Wish I were to meet him.

  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was one of the greatest books I have read in a long time. I'm re-reading it, and it is just as good as the first time.

  • This was excellent. :) Thanks so much for posting this!

  • This was so entertaining... thank you. I am going to read EL and IC again. I think we are distant cousins so it nice to know what family is doing and what is on your mind.

  • i always rewatch this here and then, i can't resist.

jonathan is so amazing, i love that he actually did what little crazy oskar thought as a mission. and the summary at the beginning? totally lovely!

  • Wish he was president.

  • I was thrown by just how great this book was. I got more emotionally attached to the characters when I expected. This book is one hundred dollars!

  • *than I expected

  • He is such a good writer, I wished he wasn't that pretentious.

  • I don't really think he's that pretentious. He doesn't act famous or anything.. If anything I would consider him very proper and a little awkward.

  • Jonfen, you are worth one hundred dollars!

  • I'm about halfway through Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and it is just amazing. He has such a refreshing style. I can't wait to read Everything is Illuminated.

  • That was incredibly entertaining... I LOVED the book

  • I just finished extremely loud and incredibly close. Excellent book. Very creative and inspiring.

  • Is the song at the end by Neutral Milk Hotel? What is it?

  • The first song is by NMH, it's Untitled off the Aeroplane Over the Sea album.

the last one, i'm not sure, it sounds very familiar though..

  • By Grandaddy. Am 180.

  • Just finished the book today and it is brilliant. My boots are extremely light. I'm astonished such a young man could produce a work with so much humanity, sadness and love all rolled into one. Kudos to you Jonathan, it is obvious you have the Right Stuff. Oxana Black looked like she was right out of the book, classic.

  • This made my day :]

  • Agreed

  • to be honest, i have no idea where this video was first aired. Also I still try to find out what song is played at the end.
