He was just riding the gravy train that 9/11 created for greedy authors like himself. I didn't like the book. Not trying to troll but I truly did NOT like how he exploited 9/11.
@Laopaspdi if you would understand the true intentions and rich undertone of the book, its pure feeling and its not falsified at all. i studied this book for a very long time since i am an aspiring writer and it was a very personal book on a very professional level. obviously he isn't tied up with his success because he is walking around new york with a broken umbrella. and if you actually paid attention to the video he didn't want to write about 9/11 at all.
@alannaarmsrtong1 I said i was not trying to troll, but clearly you did not understand. I am a historian, and my wife DIED during the 9/11 attacks. It was a decent meaning behind the book, but he could have left out 9/11. That's all i am saying. I'm still going to go and see the movie of course (:

@Laopaspdi Wow, you're clearly an idiot and didn't understand the book in anyway at all. You didn't like how he exploited 9/11? He barely ever talks about 9/11. The only part when he does is the chapter describing the day for the child. There are things to be angrier about than this amazing novel, and you clearly didn't understand what the meaning of it was.
Extremely loud and Incredibly Close is a beautiful, beautiful book. I'm now reading Everything is Illuminated and I already love it. Foer is an amazing writer.
i really don't think jonathan was exploiting 9/11 by writing this book. he invented a character and gave it life and in so many ways, he was giving the families who lost a member of their families from 9/11 their own story and voice.
He seems like a super nice guy, but mannn that must've been awkward meeting that lady at the end hahaha. He should've given her the copy of the book and just said it was promotional.
He seems like a down to earth guy. I read Everything Is, and liked it a lot. I skimmed the one about veganism, but I couldn't bring myself to read the whole thing. The parts I read were way too upsetting. Extremely Close sounds interesting. Why am I writing this? Does anyone care what I think? Whatever. I felt like typing it.
@reasonformirrors Thanks. I checked out a couple of your raps. I liked them. 'specially the one named after the great Melora Walters, one of the tragically underused and underappreciated actresses of her generation.
Like most leftist prodigies, Foer REALLY loves himself and his writing.
"Extremely Loud" is a simple novel which exploits a horrific event to give it gravitas. The reader will find lots of visual gimmicks and a main character who often sounded mentally retarded, but there was no resolution. Most revolting are the final pages which show images of a poor soul jumping from the WTC. Except we're dealing with Foer, and by flipping the pages, the reader sees the victim is actually flying UP.
I like the honesty and sincerity of this videoed "search". It feels like a noble (a heartfelt) endeavor and not some overproduced marketing ploy just to push the book....Good job... Now I'm going to read the book. (also, I liked that weird androgynous "Some Guy")
omg.. he actually did this! that looks 'swetting'!! I've read it and i thought.. ' what a good way, a practical way to heal the wound.' this book affected me tremendously. i don't know why.. i kind of understood manythings that Oscar intended to do. and i'm really not an english using country person so..hard to say things but... I'd like to meet Mr.Foer. and ..by the way. I love the 'vegetarian scene from Everything's illuminated' at Youtube. you may want to watch it.

Lol, goof @ 39 seconds. A big point is made in the novel that the word "Black" was written in red ink, so it was probably a name. In this video it's written in black.
The song at the end was "A.M. 180" by Grandaddy. It's off their album Under the Western Freeway, which is a great record. The song at the first (you may know this, but just in case anyone else is wondering) is an untitled track (but it's track 10) by Neutral Milk Hotel from their album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, which is one of five records I would choose if I could only listen to five albums forever.
Mr. Foer doesnt know the difference between dairy cattle and beef cattle. Its obvious he doesn't know what he is talking about. They are raised totally differently. Beef cattle grow up on ranches with windmills, grass, wheat!!!
Where exactly did Jonathon Safran Foer see these cattle? Texas is where most cattle in U.S. come from. I have lived in Tx all my life. I grew up on one of the largest cattle ranches here. We had 8000 cattle. It was pasture land, trees, windmills. Nice place for a cow. Every rancher I have ever seen raises their cattle on pasture land. You know wheat & grass.
So the fact that cattle are raised in horrible environment 99% of the time, is stupid & ludicrous
hilarious guys , congrats , was josh also involved in the clip you did on "eating animals" ? - jonathan has a stunning charisma - funny and deeply touching in equal parts - seeing him and reading him alike has the kind of positive energy that can make people somehow wanting to be better persons.... its a deeply human energy he transmits. the guy is growing on me.
