  • i have seen guy clark live in dallas a few years back...damn good song brother.....HELLO FROM TEXAS......

  • Love the original: this doesn't disappoint.

  • Hey man, you're good!! Who are you anyway? Are you really from Holland? I'm really from Texas. Honest to goodness. And yeah, I can tawk funny any time y'all want! Now seriously, you are GOOD. I really enjoyed you'r version of that song.

  • Guy Clark is one of the best.I love his style.A true master.

  • Nice version a little like Low budget bluesband with Mats Ronander

  • ...That old son of a bitch is coming back again, This morning while I was shaving, I looked up and there he was... in the mirror winking back at me ...

  • A Tyranny Of Lies

In the morning when I rise

I wipe the sleep from my eyes

    then I smile

Because a little bit of freedom

    beats a tyranny of lies

    M.S. Morrison

  • Normally I get really annoyed when I find that the song I'm looking for is being sung (usually butchered) by an amateur. But that was a happy suprise! Good work.

  • Loved it

  • nice. good/voice. good/accurate guitar playing. lacks just a cock hair's authenticity, but, who am I? Just feel it a tad little bit more brother, I am carried away already!

  • Cheers

  • Outstanding version of a great song!

    Very well done.

  • Thanks a lot

  • Have you ever considered coming to the Bob Dylan contest in Minneapolis, Minnesota?

  • Oh man, I live in The Netherlands, Europe, and it's a long way.

    But would be fun

  • You did a great job on this tune. Congrats and thanks.

  • @ThreeChordGuitar Thanks a lot

  • I also love how you got an old school Bob Dylan thing going.

  • Yea I loved it since I was 9 years old

  • I did too. When I was little my father had Tom Rush's version from his Ladies Love Outlaws album. And the lyrics always reminded me of my late Uncle Pat who was a war veteran who used to take me everywhere with him and tell me all kinds of old stories I could listen to for hours.Still miss him.Anyway,do you have a version of this available for download or on cd/I would gladly buy it.

  • Sorry I have one on an old tape but can't find it.

  • You're welcome.I liked it so much I posted it on my Facebook page.

  • Thanks a lot

  • jacquesmees that was excellent.the lyrics to this song always move me to tears thinking about my uncle Pat and my grandfather who were those old school men he's singing about.you really did the song justice.i loved it.

  • I have the same feeling about these lyrics and I love to sing them.

He's such a great songwriter Mr. Guy Clark. Thanks so much for listening

  • Great job one of the best covers I have heard of this song.

  • Thanks a lot Michael

  • Jacques - I am a retired guy in Georgia working on my Martin guitar which I left in the case for 25 years. I just "discovered" Guy Clark and you. I love your version of Desperados. I play it over and over and am working hard to figure out your guitar playing which is absolutely perfect for this song - sounds both simple and elegant at the same time. Quite an inspiration to us would-be guitar players. I hope to catch a live performance by you someday. Thanks.

  • Thanks a lot for your kind compliment

wish I had 25 year old Martin but don"t put it in the case just play and enjoy.

    Greetings,

    Jacques

  • Dang. That was nicely done. Thank you.

  • Guy Clark was my uncle by marriage, I still call him uncle and last saw him at a show in Rockport TX his hometown and my hometown many years ago. This song is about my great grandmother Mimi, his grandmother's boyfriend Jack. I loved listening to his music. My best memory is he is very tall and I used to stand on his feel and dance with him. He is a remarkable man!!

  • Thanks for this great story

I'm a big Guy Clark fan

  • Beautiful. I like your baseline runs. I learned the song from Jerry Jeff Walker's version, but I fingerpick, and was looking to add a little spice. I mixed your version and his and am pleased with the results.
