@drumba5 Yea ever since that game we have been on a huge down slide. After that loss we lost 4 straight including the bowl game. Then the next year we went 4-8. Between 2007-2010. We only won one bowl game and we lost bowl games to Wyoming, Northern Illinois, and Colorado State.
I think that USC loss was a turning point for our program, our team quit. We lost that swagger and that Pride of the Valley. We finally fired Pat Hill, a couple weeks ago. Hopefully we can return to glory.

USC had a couple close games in 2005. The closest being the ND game. The defense of 2005 was suspect. You could not ask for a better O! I disagree that Pete's strength was in defense. I have not seen a dominant defense in in Pete's stint at USC including the Cushing, Matthews, and Rey crew. That defense crew was best but also suspect to the run.

yea, usc escaped this game... the bulldogs came to play and the trojans decided to show up some time in the second half... luckily, usc had reggie bush and he single handedly beat fresno st... it was a great game but made every trojan fan take a deep breath... this was one of the few pete carroll teams that didn't have a solid defense.

yea Vince Young played great, but i think if the 2004 USC defense had played aginst VY, maybe they might have been able to stop Vince Young, or at least slow him down
yea, that SC defense gave up a lot of points all season, it was just overshadowed because the offense scored at will. im a SC season ticket holder, and i would say of all of Carroll's defenses, that one is at the bottom of the list, and that goes beyond what VY did to us.
they were very opportunistic though, led the country in turnovers. They weren't a BAD defense......just not great. I still think the 2005 trojans were better than the year before because of that offense with a defense that was adequate. Until Vince and Texas came along to defeat them in the greatest college game ever played. ;) great team though that I don't feel could have been beaten by anyone else on a stage like that
@me9rob There is one issue. The players USC would be upgraded at (MLB & DT) were not issues vs Texas. The issues were at DE and OLB and DEs were the same and OLB were more athletic and better suited to stop young in 05. Grootegoed vs VY in the open field? VY would beat the CFL special teamer.
Also consider that USC's offense was FAR better in 05 than 04. Texas probably still wins, however it would be close. It would prob be Texas winning in a 7 game series in either game 6 or 7.
@WordUp8403 DE's were the same but the outside backers were far and away better. Yes, Keith Rivers and Brian Cushing were more athletic then Grootegoed and Sartz, but those two were WAY better. Athleticism counts for nothing if you dont know how to use it, and thats what happened with Rivers and Cushing. They were freshman and sophomores going up against one of the greatest college football players of all time as a senior, its a mismatch every time.

This was probably the greatest game i will ever go to. Fresno State came sooo close to one of the best upsets in their history. Fresno State will probably go to a BCS bowl game next year, i can just feel it. They will be very good. I give respect to USC, they won, i just wish we could play em again. Half of Fresno States games are beat downs. I just wish Fresno could get more national exposure, because players like Clifton Smith went unnoticed, and hes a real special player.
Just because Adrian Peterson holds the single game rushing record doesnt make him the best back. The previous record holders were Jamal Lewis and Corey Dillion and their average at best. He had one great game, big deal. Reggie Bush is far more entertaining and electrifying to watch. Peterson will struggle in his 2nd season just like Reggie and so many other's. USC had a couple close games in 2005. The closest being the ND game. The defense of 2005 was suspect. You could not ask for a better O! I disagree that Pete's strength was in defense. I have not seen a dominant defense in in Pete's stint at USC including the Cushing, Matthews, and Rey crew. That defense crew was best but also suspect to the run.

yea, usc escaped this game... the bulldogs came to play and the trojans decided to show up some time in the second half... luckily, usc had reggie bush and he single handedly beat fresno st... it was a great game but made every trojan fan take a deep breath... this was one of the few pete carroll teams that didn't have a solid defense.

yea, that SC defense gave up a lot of points all season, it was just overshadowed because the offense scored at will. im a SC season ticket holder, and i would say of all of Carroll's defenses, that one is at the bottom of the list, and that goes beyond what VY did to us.

they were very opportunistic though, led the country in turnovers. They weren't a BAD defense......just not great. I still think the 2005 trojans were better than the year before because of that offense with a defense that was adequate. Until Vince and Texas came along to defeat them in the greatest college game ever played. ;) great team though that I don't feel could have been beaten by anyone else on a stage like that

@me9rob There is one issue. The players USC would be upgraded at (MLB & DT) were not issues vs Texas. The issues were at DE and OLB and DEs were the same and OLB were more athletic and better suited to stop young in 05. Grootegoed vs VY in the open field? VY would beat the CFL special teamer.
Also consider that USC's offense was FAR better in 05 than 04. Texas probably still wins, however it would be close. It would prob be Texas winning in a 7 game series in either game 6 or 7.

@WordUp8403 DE's were the same but the outside backers were far and away better. Yes, Keith Rivers and Brian Cushing were more athletic then Grootegoed and Sartz, but those two were WAY better. Athleticism counts for nothing if you dont know how to use it, and thats what happened with Rivers and Cushing. They were freshman and sophomores going up against one of the greatest college football players of all time as a senior, its a mismatch every time.

This was probably the greatest game i will ever go to. Fresno State came sooo close to one of the best upsets in their history. Fresno State will probably go to a BCS bowl game next year, i can just feel it. They will be very good. I give respect to USC, they won, i just wish we could play em again. Half of Fresno States games are beat downs. I just wish Fresno could get more national exposure, because players like Clifton Smith went unnoticed, and hes a real special player.

Just because Adrian Peterson holds the single game rushing record doesnt make him the best back. The previous record holders were Jamal Lewis and Corey Dillion and their average at best. He had one great game, big deal. Reggie Bush is far more entertaining and electrifying to watch. Peterson will struggle in his 2nd season just like Reggie and so many other's. The NFL is a league of adjustments.
