  • The real-life Tony Stark

  • Horsely was so handsome in that pornstache!

  • @nighowl888 you are right Magnum P.I ripped off Matt Houston since Matt Houston was in production and on the Air before Magnum P.I

  • @nick469er my bad on that...to be honest i totally forgot about matt houston

  • @nick469er That's not the way I remember it, but if you say so...

  • @nick469er Magnum PI started in 1980. Matt Houston, 1982.

  • Max Baer who played Jethro Bodine on the Beverly Hillbillies was also in an episode of Matt Huston he was his Buddy from Vietnam, a Chopper Pilot. So the answer is Yeehaw meet you by the cement pond.

  • magnum PI rip off

  • Pamela Hensley goodness...

  • @xKnowledgeNomadx Yes do you remember her in the Buck Rogers Series as Princess Armadala in her skimpy costumes

  • Amazing how those two Plymouth Furys at 0:22 turned into two chevys at 0:24 lol. Man I miss the 80's :o)

  • Is this the season in which Robert Fuller (of "Emergency!" fame) guest stars on one episode?

  • It seems like every guy on tv who has a 'stache' on his upper lip is 1)makes great tv and 2) getting laid pretty often. I got my flavor saver growing as of now! Great show btw!!!

  • My Mom had the hots for Lee Horsley.

  • Oh I remember this, the rip-off of Magnum P.I. LOL hilarious.

  • Matt Houston.

I'm not usually much into "P.I" shows but I did like this one, I thank it was Pamela because she wasArdala in Buck Rogers but I liked this better than Magnum P.I or other "P.I.s"

  • You would think TV land would show old like Matt Houston, Fall Guy, TJ Hooker, Manix, Barreta, Vegas, Rockford Files. I guess the world needs to see four hours of Roseanne

  • @BigVilFromWestPhil Exactly. When TV Land first started out it was showing old shows like that. But now it changed and sold out. Emergency, Starsky & Hutch, Hill Street Blues, Rockford Files, Chips. Now it's like you said. 4 hours of Roseanne, the nanny, and that stupid Raymond show.

  • Do we really need to see him getting his back waxed?

  • anyone remember the episode with Jack palance playing a psycho killer?

it was fantastic!! Palance was great! so creepy

  • @setpunk12 I remember that.. Wasn't that a two part episode? iI believed it ended on the merry go round...

  • this was my fav show in the 80s but it had two glaring problems:

-the theme song was not memorable

-lee horsley had a really goofy last name

  • i had the biggest crush on Lee Horsley in the 1980's.

  • Damn I miss the 80's so much!!

  • @jvlivs2 me too. But NCIS LA is a good show.

  • The late Lincoln Kilpatrick played on the sci fi movie The Omega Man with the late Charlton Heston as Zachary one of the mutants. Lincoln's son Lincoln Jr. played an epsiode on Sanford and Son as Jason the runaway kid, and did a episode on Good Times as the leader of the Jr. Warlords who forced Michael to join.

  • @buzzlewie Also Uptown Saturday Night with Bill Cosby, Sidney Poitier, Calvin Lockhart, Harry Belafonte, and so many more.

  • Dag! I'm gettin' old here. Ain't seen this since...the 80s, man! TV ain't like this no more, tho...

Gotta love the intro to this series. It's like Magnum P.I. meets 007!

  • Matt Houston was such a bamf. Can't help but like the guy though..lol

  • Magnum PI lite

  • Lee Horsley was one hell of a good looking man! That's a real man!

  • where is Lee Horsley?Anyone knows?

  • He was sooo nice to look at! Season 1 is out on dvd. Anyone writing Matt Houston fan fic???

  • Now I remember why I forgot about this show!

  • " Better cock yur pistol!"

  • Its like this, the Matt Houston show would be the Airwolf equivalent and Magnum P.I. would be Blue Thunder. Matt Houston would be the Transformers and Magnum P.I. would be the GoBots.

  • I loved this show as well. It premiered on channel 45 here in phx, az. chanel 45 was brand new and had shows like hunter and tj hooker. the station was later bought by paramount studios making it upn 45. (United Paramount Network) Now thats gone and its just MyNetwork45. sorry to ramble, it just brought back memories.

  • I'm was a big fan of this show. Lee Horsley was the man. He and Pamela Hensley were the show! She is a absolute hottie!

  • I just remembered how sexy pamela hensley was as cj and princess ardalla(?) from buck rogers.

  • I had almost forgot about this show. I saw on deep discount site that the first season is on sale of this show. I came to youtube to see if there were any trailers, and this one here brings back some memories of my childhood. What triggered it was the red Mercedes. It is starting to come back to me a little bit now. LOL! Buddy E is in the show.

  • Matt Houston was a great show, used to watch it every Sunday night. But it is disturbing to see Buddy Ebsen firing an Uzi - what would Ellie May and Jethro say?

  • @cjb476 LOL! I think they will say that he had been away Ma too much!

  • @cjb476 "What would Ellie May and Jethro say?" lol!

  • @cjb476

"Uncle Jed, we coulda struck a whole bunch more oil if you'd been a-huntin' with this here type of gun instead!"

  • @cjb476 Ehh, he seems to be playing a decent guy. I don't think they'd mind too much. :D

  • @cjb476 Probably an Ingram or Cobray Mac-10 in .45 ACP.

  • @cjb476 That's not an Uzi he's firing. It's a MAC-10.

  • @cjb476 Probably, "Where can we get us some fancy shootin' irons like that?"

  • good cast

  • Didn't Robert Fuller (of "Emergency!" fame) guest-star on one episode?

  • Quality television

  • I used to watch with my dad...religiously. *lol*

  • @SidJustice1 I watched a few of these. Kinda reminds me of Tom Selleck. This guy had the looks to make it on the big screen I thought.

  • @retro- Yeah, I lot of ppl accused the producers of ripping off Magnum's concept with this show. But he (Lee Horsley) had a little more of a redneck appeal to his persona. Also, my dad loved Magnum and Simon & Simon shows with a passion.

  • Lee Horsley sure did along with the fact that Houston outclassed Magnum big time when it came to their private detective lifestyles since Magnum lived on a shoestring budget while Houston lived high on the hog in a swanky penthouse living the luxurious life Magnum envied & wished he could've had.

  • Comment removed

  • @100572a Magnum was not too envious. His show lasted longer, LOL!

  • They ripped Magnum PI hard.lol

  • About time this show was released !

  • Yup! Now I'm anxiously awaiting for them to release MATT HOUSTON-Season 2 out on DVD & hopefully it wont be too long either.

  • this looks like a badass show. maybe i'll have to purchase this and check it out for myself. saw the commercial today and heard it was a texan show so i had to check it out haha

  • The First Season of Matt Houston is being released on March 9th!

  • I just checked Amazon and they have it for $33.49. Let's look around and see if a lower price can be found.

  • believe it kids, because it's true. if you drive into anything fast enough, even a couple of cop cars, you'll jump right over it, no problem.

  • I saw only 1 episode from this series on TNN. He jumped out of a window and landed on his head, and at the end, I think he took some black kid to Disneyland.

  • What ever happened to Lee Horlsey???

You don't even see him at the conventions.

    Loved this show.

  • He's dead, that's why you don't see him at the conventions.

  • @jamessmedley82 Lee isn't dead he just hasn't done a lot of acting-from what I found out he does a lot of outdoorsman and rodeo type stuff. Plus he is a avid hunter. I will see what else I can find out. I loved this show too-how cool is it to be a wealthy detective always catching the bad guy and having hot women around?

  • I never followed this show. I was born in '82, so the only way I can find out about 80s TV series is by watching ancient video cassettes, and Houston isn't one of them. I watch A-Team, Trauma Centre, Riptide and stuff like that.

  • Easy Brother! I remember (I am so old-42) anyway yeah it was a good show-better than most people gave it credit. It may be on dvd soon-you should check it out if you like 80s shows.

  • @brucecap , I look forward to the DVD. BTW, I think Lincoln Kirkpatrick, unlike Horsley, IS dead.

  • Yes you are right. Lincoln worked consistently up to 2004 when he passed. He did a lot of cop shows through the 70's and 80's.

  • Yeah, thought so. I think he was also in Ironside, or perhaps Perry mason. Well, he was alongside Raymond Burr in something. Oh well, time to trawl thru' IMDb, I guess.

  • he didn't die lol... He is the host of a hunting show, and has been writing western novels for years, he did not do a ton of acting after the mid 80s. He looks completely different now, if you ever see the show Benelli's Dream Hunts, yes that's him..

  • Hmmmm..Pamela Hensley. FIT as F**K. I remember her wearing next to nothing in Buck Rogers.....As twiki once said...Bedebedebede...what a body......

  • You notice the lettering in the opening credits is the same as in Pulp Fiction? This makes me laugh because I live in Houston. Also a guy in high school used to brag that he had a "Matt Houston" haircut!! He's bald now! LOL

  • fuzzydunlop1 season 1 is out March 9th!

  • Is it me or did that intro run on for what seemed like forever? After a minute you think ok its over by the music... but then it takes a "one more time for good luck" approach..haha!

  • Loved this show as a kid, loved Magnum, pi too. If this is coming out on DVD, I'm buyin' it!

  • Uncle Roy what a name for a show character and as for Matt he really was a twat.

  • he looks like he should be in gay porn

  • You'd know.

  • Matt Houston-Season 1 will finally be released on DVD next year!!!

  • @Katzenhase I thought it was going to be on Beta!

  • Does anyone remember the episode where his Father dies in his arms on a stairway.? That was a great episode.

  • I was so damn jelouse of Lee Horsley back then, He was my idol. I can remember wanting to buy a 280ZX and a black members only jacket and drive to school thinking I was him.

    This show was awesome.

  • Pamela was hot. I was only 8 and I had a little crush on her. she was also in Buck Rogers

  • This themesong reminds me of being in bed in the early 80's...because It came on late and I'd be in bed but still wide awake and I could hear the TV coming from my parents room and they'd be up watching this show.

  • Why was Buddy Ebsen added to the show later? You think they would bring in someone young and hot. I guess Ebsen was still an icon then, having done "Barnaby Jones" and "Beverly Hillbilles". I guess they thought he would increase the ratings??

  • Good Show but you could see the Magnum P.I following.

  • Pamela was awesome, not the usual damzal in distress charachter, loved her. I think when they brought on Buddy Ebsen that put her on the back burner way to much and the writers ruined the show by doing that. The chemistry/dynamic between Matt and Cj was wonderful, they need to bring it back.

  • This show ruled Friday nights. And then Miami Vice came along. That was the end of Houston. It was an ABC show.

  • does anyone know if this show ever came out on dvd?

  • I remember there was another opening sequence where the camera started at his boots and went up. Some wag at the time said this was "the longest crotch shot on TV".

  • At :23 how the hell do they move from Plymouth Fury's to Chevys?

  • Who the hell was Matt Houston anyway?

  • One things I remember about this show was the number of times Matt was "near death" from a gun shot or stab wound. Which to me made his character more real than other shows that the star/hero does get injured.

  • much better than magnum

  • Comment removed

  • You need your head examined if you think that. Matt Houston was a blatant rip-off of Magnum. It had no emotional depth, Houston was a rich playboy with no flaws, and too much free time on his hands! At least Magnum had a military background, which made the character more believable, where Houston was just a rich guy who fancied trying to solve crimes. Tell me, which one sounds moe realistic to you?

  • u need 2 calm down it is just a tv show damn

  • Nah, just a die-hard Magnum fan for the last 25 years. All good stuff though; both shows were great escapism.

  • Pamela hensley...yummy...

  • Matt Houston was always better and cooler than Magnum. Hands down. Matt crime fighted in suits and ties. Magnum can't do that.

  • fuck off!!!

  • This looked like a "Magnum:PI" rip-off at the time. Looking back,it still does!

  • he was the poormans Magnum PI.

  • Ah a rush on the memories, and I had forgotten Buddy Ebsen was on this. Oh well, better watch out for Granny and her vittles! haha, Loved the show, I don't care if it was a ripoff.

  • Vive matt houston... que de souvenirs... rires...

  • this was another great show. Pamela Hensley was a hottie and Buddy Ebsen adding some comedy to the show. I just hope they release it on dvd.

  • Horsley ran like his boots were to small. Lookes like his feet hurt.

  • I might be wrong but Magnum orif=ginally was a millionaire living in LA who solved crimes just like Matt Houston but Selleck fought to make it more believable as a guy living in a Millionaires house. Once again I think thats what happened . Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Houston was a cool show anyway, but Magnum was the best show of the 80's.

    Peace

  • This was an attempt at a knockoff of Tom Selleck's appeal on "Magnum." It didn't fare as well.

  • oops take that back stephanie drove a yellow merc, still a very cool car in any color

  • I bet Matt shared the same car with Stephanie Powell as she to drives the same car in the opening credits of Hart ot Hart.

  • Yes, in one episode of Matt Houston you can clearly see some tampons that Steph left in the glove compartment...

...not very helpfuly when he wanted a cigarette!

  • True. But like Stephanie it did give Matt the confidence and protection he needed to chase crooks on Roller-skates and horseback .

He felt fresh and dry all season and thanks to the discreet floral packaging which was mistaken for a box of Benson and Hedges he managed to Pack so much action in the one show.

  • Rough copy/ 007 Live and let Die

  • Was that guy really that young? I always thought he was like 40 back then but he was 27 when the show started. At least that's what I read. Apart from that, Pamela Hensley was hot and Barnaby Jones how old was he? like 80?

  • arron spelling ruled the 80sand eary 90s

  • The LONGEST intro in the history of EVER!

  • obviously you havnt seen the intro to pee wees playhouse lol

  • Matt Houston had some trouble putting the Benz in reverse at 13 seconds

  • If I could actually enter my text at the scene you put that balloon, it'd read, "You fucking wish you were this cool."

  • this was one of my favorite shows growing up....good post.

  • Matt houston this was my show back in the days this show used to come on friday nights .

  • Ah, Lee Horsely, before "Paradise" and numerous TV movies in the 90s...

  • he is very sexy. is he gay?

  • NO!

  • are sexy people only gay?

  • @audreyessex Nope. Married for 30+ years and has 2 kids.

  • Man, when I was a kid, my mom and I used to stay up every Friday night just to watch this show!

Only drawback is, I MISSED MIAMI VICE!

Oh well, can't win em all...

  • now this was a awsome show

  • Comment removed

  • The Nashville Network (TNN) which became something else 10 years ago, re-ran "MATT HOUSTON" along with "DALLAS", "MEL's DINER" etc. I miss TNN...

  • The action man

  • Lee Horsley is going to reprise his role of Talon in the sequel to "The Sword and the Sorcerer." They're finally going to make the sequel that was promised at the end of the 1982 movie.

In this one, he's going to be passing the torch to Kevin Sorbo's character. If you check IMDB, they have some still shots of a much older King Talon. Lee Horsley rules!!!

  • Pam Hensly was on Buck Rogers as well.

  • I watch this and can only think...

    "Listen all y'all it's a sabotage!!"

  • this a ripp off of magnum pi . he was a tom selleck clone

  • General observation: it's intriguing and a little bewildering at the length of the intro to shows like Matt Houston, and most crime dramas from the 70's and 80's. Some of them run well over a minute -- by today's standards they seem endless. It's actually a terrible waste of limited TV time -- think about it, a show with 40 minutes of non-advertising story time, and 1-1/2 mins. wasted on music and credits every week. Compare today's show with nearly non-existent intros. I prefer that approach.

  • no one cares

  • yeah but the theme music is what makes the good shows memorable, they kinda set the tone of the show...some theme music was like 30 seconds long but the quality of the composition and writting was so good that it lasted a lifetime.even today those themes cant be touched.

  • JEWFRO!

  • I had such a crush on him when I was a kid.

  • So did I. He's one of those men who get's sexier the older he gets

  • oh me too. i loved this show.

  • Lee H. was hot, but he had that helmet-hair perm going on. He could have been a Brady.

  • What was the western he was on when he raised them 3 kids

  • Matt Houston's still not out on DVD. I wonder why?

My aunt feels Matt Houston wasn't good enough to be released on DVD, but I disagree with her.

Many old TV shows from the '60's-'80's, including Matt Houston, were totally awesome.

  • This is probably a dumb question, but if this show is not yet out on DVD, where did this clip come from? IIRC, Matt Houston broadcast well before VCR's were commonplace.

  • A few VHS players were out in the early '80's along with several beta recorders.

I'm sure thousands of folks recorded Matt Houston episodes back then.

  • Matt Houston was a poor's man version of Magnum P.I.

  • Yup, and ironically, Matt Houston was the millionaire and Magnum was poor (well, not a millionaire anyway!)

  • Well that maybe so; but why Houston rockin 1979 red Mercedes compare to Magnum's Ferrari which was way more expensive during the early 80's

  • True, but Houston owned all his cars and Magnum had to drive a car owned by Higgins!

  • Wasn't Matt Houston who Tom Berringer's character in "The Big Chill" was patterned after?

  • Oh man i loved this show when they used to air it on TNN now its Spike TV i miss it! I mean i was really young when it came out but i enjoyed it in re-runs i wish they would air it again somewhere.

  • Oh man, that luscious Pamela Hensley. She was also in the movie "Rollerball" and "Buck Rogers in the 23rd Century". And what a long title--some shows like "Lost" don't even have titles.

  • Ah, Lee Horsely. The thrifty-man's Tom Selleck.

  • *theme*

  • i used to like this way more than Magnum P.I but i like the them song alot better to mag than this one,

  • RIP Lee Horsley

  • are you kidding me,he's dead?

  • He is not dead; I checked it out.

  • oh good! thank you.

  • why ? does he owe you some money ??

  • Hmm...who would have won in a fight: Matt Houston or Magnum P.I.? (or whatever his name was)

  • Dude had THE coolest car on TV...next to K.I.T.T., of course.:)

  • I mean the Excalibur.

  • this is the third and last season. i loved this show

  • This is the opening theme from late into the series ! Cos the one ive got he backs out of his drive in the Excalibre not the 450 Merc !

  • Great Show. Great Theme. Bring back the 80's!

  • yeh, a bit like PlanetCop Sir..I know PlanetCop....yeh!

  • J'adorai cette série!Culte!
