He'd love the idea that people learned from him. He wanted of course to entertain, but if people also learned. Well that was just great. I suspect I learned quite as much from my stepfather - perhaps more - out of school as I did at school. I certainly know what I enjoyed more, which is saying something given the number of young people who will say of the place where they live "There's nothing to do".

...and thank you for the kind comment. I wonder why JH never mentions the scythe...or not to my knowledge. He taught me how to use a sickle, but I had to get someone else to teach me the scythe. Jack preferred an Allen Power Scythe for his pastures and it was fun to use. Jack was no Luddite and would happily use many power tools while admiring the craft of those who'd used their predecessors.

these shows remind me of coming home from school and watching Jack in out of town.
a proper gent and presenter who taught me very much, great to see these again, its what id call a proper education.
