I (an Englishman) think that, at the time this video was made, it's creator had a valid point. Cooky did have problems outside the line of off stump, although I'd dispute the "nothing at his pads" part as he was also famous for trying to play across the line and getting out LBW. It's worth noting that he has ironed both of these problems out and is now arguably the hardest batsman to dismiss in world cricket
@rambot11 Pakistan would disagree. And he's well and truly fallen back into bad habits with regard to poking outside off. He was poor in the India series except for one marathon innings where he managed not to poke outside off, and in the Pakistan series he was out several times (and dropped as well) playing at balls well wide of off stump a la Gautam Gambhir.
"My intention with this video is NOT to ridicule Cook or somehow belittle his achievements in the past couple of years"
Of course it is, you pathetic Australian blowhard. That's all useless twats like you ever do.
If you're the oracle on how to get him out, why not try? Now that would make a great YT vid, your useless arse getting spanked all over the park by an elite athlete.
Nah - making pissy videos is more your pace, you useless cunt.
The 2006/2007 Ashes - what an Aussie team it was! Warne, McGrath, Langer, Hayden. Legends of the game led Australia to a 5-0 whitewash over England. So upset when they had to go! I was thinking... Who's going to replace them?
"My intention with this video is NOT to ridicule Cook or somehow belittle his achievements in the past couple of years. If anything it is to show how batsmen have the ability to overcome technical deficiencies. It usually takes them time, but the rewards are usually well worth it."
Congratulations sir, you have won the award for the MOST IGNORANT AND OBLIVIOUS COMMENT ON YOUTUBE!
That is exactly how to bowl to cook. A shame our dead shit line up in last years ashes served endless half volleys or half trackers short and wide. I think I might have cashed in on that tripe.
I've never rated cook but he has improved a lot in the last 2 years. That said bowl it in the corridor of chaos and he'll be found out very quickly - as will most batsmen.
He nicked several times like this to Gul in the series just gone but the pakies just dropped them however lol only for the spinner
That is exactly how to bowl to cook. It's just a shame our dead shit bowlers bowled either half trackers short and wide or half volleys the whole series last year during the ashes.
I've never rated cook but he has proved a lot. Still put it in that corridor of chaos and like any batsman he's suss, maybe more suss that others as those highlights show.
If they get it in that zone next year he'll struggle.
To think that this is the same guy who scored about a billion runs in the course of one series against us a year or so ago tells a story. He is nothing more than a decent batsman - He has amazing powers of patience and concentration but very little flair and as the uploader has pointed out his technique is very poor when you bowl a good-to-full length at off stump, his feet don't move and his bat dangles around all over the place. This is not brain surgery, and he will be found out again soon.
@Pegasus82nd True, but with Cook the waiting time isn't very long. His reluctance to get forward and the way he tends to want to score square of the wicket rather than straight down the ground means he's always more vulnerable to nicking off than other batsmen.
He does not have the flamboyance of Lara, the technique of Tendulkar, the aggression of Ponting, the defense of Kallis, or the class of Dravid....that he is being considered a possible great already says something about the bowlers these days...He is above average, but wouldnt have survived in the 90s...
@Razor1262 Actually no... Cook took 5+ years to get better. Hughes hasn't been a part of the team for more than a few tests at a time and has not even been playing FC cricket for 5 years yet. Let alone test cricket.
@CoolStoryBrosauce , Cook had a problem with getting on the front foot, he always moved too late and nicked behind, . He got a lot of chances to be fair , i think he has worked hard to eradicate these flaws but Aus should have tested him more. The trouble for Hughes is he was bad against NZ, he might take a long time to mentally recover from that. he has to put away the shot that keeps getting him out at least for a while, he may become less exciting but it will be worth it for him.
@cabinet96vids LOL! I should TOTALLY do that. The problem is I only have footage from 09 and 06. Not from 10/11 where most of the long hops and leg stump half volleys were bowled to him.
Our bowling plan during the Ashes was apparently "bowl 4 long hops outside off stump/over and hope he throws his back out trying to smash them all to the fence."
@CoolStoryBrosauce I have footage from 10/11 (7 DVD box set) so will definitely try to upload Cook's series when I have time. Might be a while though. :(
@CoolStoryBrosauce but I think this current pace attack (especially if we can get Cummins and Pattinson to play in the same match sometime) will tear England apart in 2013. McDermott has really sorted out their line and length and they've made this great Indian batting lineup look like the Bangladeshi 2nd 11.
@craigalake This once great Indian batting line up also only reached 300 runs in an innings once in England. I have to confess the Aus attack looks better with Pattinson in it but he has only played New Zealand and India who are not famous for dealing with a swinging ball. I feel England know by know how to deal with Siddle and Hilfy, while Cummins is so young it is wrong to expect too much from him just yet. Broad is bowling really well atm too. 2013 should be close cannot wait.
@dannya333 Me too, cannot wait!! I might be premature in judging the Aussie quicks but I really feel they'll do very well in England. Siddle and Hilfy are much improved from last time they played England, and a friend that knows Dravid (former Karnataka teammate) said the Indian batsmen were really impressed by Pattinson and really struggled to pick him. I'm concerned about how the Australian batting lineup will go against Broad though. I think the Indian bowlers made them look good.
@craigalake I have a feeling next Ashes could easily be a low scoring one. Both sides have bowling lineups that are far better than their batting lineups.
@craigalake I think maybe Ponting is being flattered by the Indian bowling, but Clarke looks genuinely in great form, his 151 no against Saffers was class. Certainly Pattinson should enjoy English conditions, I reckon his brother might have got a few Australian caps if it wasnt for his strange selection for England in that one test.
@dannya333 Yep, England have to be the worst team against spin in the world. Even worse than the minnows. None of them have a clue about judging length or using their feet.
@CoolStoryBrosauce What i hate about this performance is that englands bowling still looks so good and the batsmen wasted it. Panesar and Broad bowled so well all for nothing. Frustrating beyond belief.
Not to nitpick but don't you think this applies to all batsmen.?????
On a length, maybe a touch fuller every now and then on and around off stump. NOTHING at his pads, NOTHING short, NOTHING wide. He'll nick off sooner or later. All you have to do is wait and eventually he'll misjudge the line or the ball will nip off the seam or swing.
@cabinet96vids that would be a "how NOT to bowl to Alistair Cook video". And I don't think 1.5 hrs is enough to show the number of long hops we bowled to him.
I don't get you're point though, why would comparing batsmen be dumb? When it comes to comparing Hughes to Cook, it's not as though we're comparing a bowler who bats a bit (i.e. Johnson) to a proper batsmen who is only in the team to bat solely (i.e. Hughes)!
Why would you compare Hughes to the likes of Johnson, Siddle, Doherty, Beer (etc) in the first place, considering, these said examples can either bat a bit or not at all, either way there not proper batsman?!
When comparing batsman in the right manner, surely you would compare a batsman against batsman, not a batsman (Cook) against a complete rabbit (Martin).
See kids, this is why you have to get to the pitch of the ball! :)

@santoshgrg Yep. Absolutely solid off the back foot which is why Aus/India bowling back of a length and short to him was just pathetic bowling.
