Nadia had received a horrible score in Moscow for this routine, this is why she did not compete in Russia in following competitions. Her first 10 was in 1976 in Montreal. Russians were fuming and everyone in the gymnastics knew at the time Russians scored low unless you were Russian.
This is from the 1978 Worlds in Strasbourgh. Nadia finished 4th in the AA and 5th on the UB.
She did not compete in the UB EF in Moscow because she fell in the Team Optionals, which costed her also a gold in the AA. She got a 10 on UB in the All Around, though.
yes...that is how it was when I was in training in the late 1970's-'80's...gymnastics has evolved. Although I admire the skill and incredible talent of current gymnasts, I miss the beauty and grace and the elegance we had before gymnasts were urged to push the limit of what our bodies can do. The Bars are now far apart to give gymnasts the distance they need for the newer and more evolved exercises and skills they have learned. I admire that, but miss the old-school gymnastics like Nadia
Yes-you could see by Nadia's shape (she was in much better top condition in 1979-1980) and her competition number is from the Strasbourg, Germany World Championships in 1978.
I suppose you are talking about Nazi Germany, cause that's the time when Strasbourg was under German control. Before that it was either independent or it belonged to Alsace, France.
OK, I also know Strasbourg has a strong German influence, but that does not make it German.
Again, maybe I was too harsh, but only Imperial Germany and the Nazi one controlled the city. Other than that it belonged to the Romans and later it was independent. Strasbourg is French, that's sure.
And in the end, this a Nadia Comaneci post. The video shows Nadia performing at the 1978 Worlds. In Moscow 1980, her number was 50, and she was a lot slimmer.
Thanks for posting,

Female gymnasts seem to have such a short time at the very top, 4-5 years, I would say she was at her best at 14-16.

Strasbourg is in France not in Germany!

Strasbourg USED to be under German control; but in modern times, it is in northermost France, sharing a border with Germany, yes.
