I just saw this film, and Olivia was great, they really made her to look so plain homely, and dull. Ralph Richardson ws also very good,They don't make pictures like this anymore!

I have a BIG love affair with Great Britain, especially the BBC. I hope to do more classic Brit films in the coming months. "The Ladykillers", "Kind Hearts and Coronets", "The Red Shoes"", I Know Where I'm Going" not to mention the David Lean Dickens adaptations. Thanks so much!!!!
I am so glad that your reviews are getting longer! A full 10 mins with all the wonderful and interesting back stage details about each movie would be appreciated.
Sometimes your reviews have been more entertaining than the movie.
You've hit on yet another of my dearest favorites. So powerful. DeHavilland and Richardson are studies in perfection. With a gorgeous Aaron Copeland score and a viciously satisfying finale, it's one of the greatest dramas ever made.
That final scene with Monty going berserk at the door and the rising Copeland score underneath is one of the greatest finales ever filmed. Breathtaking!
I rented this from Netflicks for the first time back in February and every time Montgomery Clift came on the screen my jaw dropped because he was so unbelievably hot. Richardson was also nominated for his role, the only nomination he received while he was still alive.
i can't help but think of the takeoff they did on the Carol Burnett show of this one....it ruins the movie every time i try and watch it now....i start laughing at all the wrong times!
I was lucky enough to be at the opening night performance of Cherry Jones in "The Heiress" and it was one of the greatest evenings in the theatre I've ever spent.
What an EXCELLENT choice, Steve. One of my very favorite movies. I won't give away the plot, so I leave it at saying Olivia is masterful in her range of emotions during the film. It is subtle and understated, yet palpable and believable. Monty is at his handsomest, and Sir Ralph reminds me of George Sanders. Everyone, please seek out and watch this one!
I'm so watching this..I really want to know what happens at the end! Thanks for reviewing this film. BTW I am very sadden to hear we lost a great man today..Tony Curtis..maybe you could review a movie in his honor.
I so LOVE the passion and delight you have for these wonderful old films and the people who went into creating them. Your reviews are always such a delight!

I agree. It's one of those perfect films, that so often turned out to be directed by Wiliam Wyler. Thanks for watching!

There hasn't been any gay trivia in any reviews in many months. BTW, Montgomery Clift was gay.

I always love the scene at the end where Monte's beating on the door while she finishes her needlepoint. **shivers**
