I'm remember rushing home from school every Monday to catch He-man. I'd go mental if I was late and ended up missing any of it. Funny how important shows were back then compared to now where everything in on tap. I also remember Chocky but I think I wasn't old enough to really make much sense of it at the time.
Christ, do i remember pestering me mam (gaud bless her!) for those ghostbusters transfers....didn't like me changing my cereal every so often cuz of the freebies...!!
I've just bought the complete series of "CHOCKY'S CHILDREN" on video! Did you know Jeremy Bullough, AKA Bob Fett from the original STAR WARS movies was in it??
It's a network cue - it told the different ITV regions when a commercial break was due to start. Each ITV company (TVS, HTV, Thames etc) sold its own commercial air time so they each ran different ads. I think this was automated by 1985. Not sure though.
To let you know the ad's were coming on! No seriously, i've got no idea wjy it is, but it's still there today if you look closely enough on ITV when there's about to be a break.
that ad for the saveaway bus ticket makes me laugh... the posh woman has it together andknows exactly what's going on and the working class woman is a complete fucking moron... was is it about 70's and 80's tv... they seemed to have had their tact glands removed
My god these ads have unsettled parts of my memory that have gather dust for over 20 years! I'm 29 years old now, i feel like i'm 6 years old sitting in from of the tv with a Marathon bar and a can of Quattro!
I was only 3 when this was first shown i enjoy watching old adverts like this its interesting to see what my brother used to watch as he would of been 14 at the time and proberbly remembers it well post some more if you can
Yip - following on from the Superman 2 dioramas of three years before... and when my dad took me to see 'Ghostbusters' they didn't let us in - rated too old.
Scary thing is, I remember the free Ghostbusters transfers in Shreddies and Shredded Wheat. Because I made my parents buy me Shreddies just so I could get them! I think we only bought em once!
oh my, i remember that le crunch advert so well. 'spatz mollany decided to turn over a new leaf' havent seen that ad for 22 years, yet found myself saying that line with along with the advert just now.
That was brilliant mate! love the wierd memories...that crunch bunch commercial. also the anti bacterial face wash. the best slogan they could come up with was "better than soap and water" hahhahaha. "new face wash...its better than nothing". also the classic eightis class divide sommercial on the bus. lovely stuff.
At this time I was still two weeks away from being born but I really enjoy looking at this sort of thing. It's quite interesting for me to see what cereal packets (and the like) looked like in the year I was born! Excellent upload
I'm sure that's James Hazeldine (from "London's Burning") at the start of the "Chocky's Children" clip. Also, the theme tune to it is well scary, it sounds a bit like Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells".
Thanks for posting this. This was acutally my 12th birthday!

I got a portable TV for Christmas '84 so I remember the adverts from the second half of the 80's in particular very well.
Behind The Bike Sheds featured Lee Sparke who played Gordon 'Jonah' Jones in Grange Hill in 1982/3.

Why was a little black and white thing in the top right corner of the screen when adverts were about to come on?
Twigs47 3 years ago
Tells the producers that it's countdown to adverts to switch to adverts.

@Stev888 Channel 4 and S4C also had theirs on the top right-hand corner for the same reason.

@Twigs47 Also the BBC uses a cue dot which appears on the top left of the screen 30 seconds before the next item or programme.

Wow! Brought back some vivid memories. Thanks for that! I was 7 years old in Jan '85.
IIRC, the presenters of CITV used to change on a monthly basis up until the late 1980s.

Yes, old packaging and products are as entertaining as the programmes and continuity from back in the day.
