Look up "Angel Baby" by Rosie and the Originals. It may take you a few hits to find the one with the video showing mothers with their babies. Oh so glad that she doesn't mention a boy-friend in the song. So I will continue to sing it to my grand-son. MY "Angel Baby".
This scene is the most moving Disney scene ever. And there is no dialogue. No character is actually singing this song to Dumbo. It's simple and the emotion of a child and it's parent wing separated is moving and wonderfully powerful. Disney's finest.
I've been watching this movie since I was 7 and just ran across this clip. Tried not to because I knew what would happen, but I couldn't help but click on it. Yup, I started sobbing like a 7 year old little girl again. Oh, this scene has broken my heart for 17 years!
I'm a new dad to 2 month old twins, boy and girl :)...unfortunately right after giving birth my wife had a stomach ulcer burst and she's been in the hospital the last two months without her babies, I sing this to her everytime I visit her and we sit and cry together, if anyone has a second to say a quick prayer so mommy can come home and be with her babies again I would be very grateful
I agree with u, whoever doesn't cry when listening to this song has a heart of stone I started bawling my eyes out as soon as the girl started singing. :'/ it gets me everytime...
i remember watching this movie when i was little and every time this scene would come on my parents would put their hands together and i would sit on them and they would rock me side to side...damn now im crying!! haha i love this movie
Funny thing is I bought the cassette tape of this Disney Lullaby back in 1993 for my oldest daughter and from what I recall the verse “pay no mind what they say” on the cassette the words were “pay no heed what they say”. Back then I thought.. hmm.. that’s a big word for a baby lullaby song.
This song is my song for my big girl, and now 18 years later I chose another lullaby from this same album/cd (Dreams are the flowers that bloom in your heart) for my newest baby girl (7 months now).
I am a new father, and my wife and i sing our 8 month old daughter to sleep every night with this song. It also calms her down when she's taken a fall, or is just tired or hungry. Anyone who doesn't find this song achingly beautiful has never been a true, loving parent. I cry every time i hear it and can't hold my daughter.
I always sang this song to my kids when they were little. When my 4 year old was diagnosed with leukemia, I sang it to him every night in the hospital when getting him to sleep.
@HiSaysMel Let's face it, the 8 Russian Communists who accidentally hit 'Dislike' can't stand the fact that Dumbo had to leave right after his mother finished singing her lullaby to him!
I always cry at this part because of the song Baby Mine. I always think of my mother and how I won't always have her and about when I'm sometimes mean to her and how much it must hurt her when I am mean and it always makes me say that I'm sorry for everything and apologize. I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME at this song because I just don't want my mother to ever leave me because I'm not ready and that I'm still her baby. :'(
i adore this song and the movie i sang it to my son every night every nap i dont have my son anymore since i lost coustidy to C.A.S and i cry everytime i listen to it
my mother passed away right before thanksgiveing of last year its really hard to hear this song, the part that brings me to tears is when they sing pay no mind what they say let thoese sparkle and shine....because i didnt have many friends growing up but my mom was my best friend and never wanted me to cry or feel bad
Dumbo is my absolute favorite character. After my mom abandoned my family, I connected with him especially in this scene. I'm 18, and i haven't seen or heard from my mom in 2 years, and its heartbreaking. I know what it feels like to just have that one moment where you just want your mom to hold you again. Its just too sad.... I miss you mom :'(
The animator who did this scene - Bill Tytla - although going from storyboards, put so much tenderness in it. She can't even see him due to the chains (she was saving him), Dumbo crying, she rocking him. As he leaves their trunks gently let go and she can only see out a teeny window. Walt's decision to not have Dumbo speak was a very good one. Ironically Bill Tytla was also the animator who did the devil in "Fantasia", the 'Night on Bald Mtn" scene.
I am 25 and this song still makes me cry like a baby, I can only imagine how baby elephants feel in real life when there snatched away or there parents are poached in africa for tusks, Elephants are VERY emotional animals and baby elephants stay with their parents for over 12 years!!!
Every time I watch this movie I always cry at this part. Especially when Dumbo starts to cry. I am even bawling right now after watching it here. Such a touching film. I love it.
I just recently rewatched this film and the exact second the song started up, I was crying. This isn't like usual where I just tear up and sniff a little. No, I was actually crying. This is just too beautiful. I respect Hewylewis and all, but how dare he not put this on his top tearjerking songs list?
My mom used to sing this to me when she dropped me off at school. It makes me cry too. THAT'S THE OPPOSITE OF THE INTENT OF THE SONG, STOP CRYING LOL.
u know that stork ought to b fired from his job both times we see him making deliveries to the wrong place. although I think Mrs Jumbo and dumbo r so loving to each other I guess it worked out alright
@juanarruti oh u mean the kid that blew into dumbo's ear? Yea, he deserves to get punished like that. That really hurts their ears. I love this movie and they better make more classics like this.
@juanarruti I KNOW RIGHT!? These are childhood memory-like Classics for all ages! Now they got is almost disney crap :'( I loved the old disney alot better! Sigh... Mom: Dumbo my bab-- (chains hold her) oh dear me, yes im right here
Dumbo: Mama! (holds her trunk) Thanks mousey!
Tim: No prob feller! I knew how much u missed (sniff) your mom :')
Me: See Zoo ppl! See how much these animals would be much happier if hey were at their homes where they belong? Not at a cruel animal jail like this! Putting them in chains just frightens them! You better grow a better caring heart and set these animals free with there parents! I certainly would
that circus ought to get charged with animal cruelty and shut down I mean imprisoning a mother elephant for protecting a baby from jerks who want to hurt her baby.
i wish people would see this video, and realize that every day is so precious and yet, we are so carefree. i wish people would chose their children over drugs, and alcohol. its not fair to the little ones who are so new to this world to watch their parents do such horrible things <3 my mom works at the elementary, and each day she tells me about a kid that doesnt looked loved (coming to school in filth and disgust) she wants to take them home and give them every ounce of her love, and so do i.
this my my sons favorite lullaby too :-) i actually looked it up because he asked me to sing it but i cant seem to get my throat cleared enough to sing it right now
The old Disney films are the best. Im a 41 yr old mand and still gets so emotional at this scene. Where are the tissues. Thought provoking to say the least. Why do some people that are blessed with children abuse and hit them ? Children are the future. All of us deserve a childhood and should be loved and taken care of ALWAYS
Usually partial scenes shown in darkness have the effect of frightening a viewer, but that's not so at 2:53....Mrs. Jumbo's head is obstructed by the cage bars and you can almost feel her sadness just by looking at her eyes. Why can;t cartoons be like this anymore?
@dharmaseed IK R! It really teaches children what would it be like if THEY were in a cage! they wouldnt be happy at all! It's almost like Zoo jail! It teaches them how much you should care for your kids and how terrible it is to lose a mother for so long :( I WANT IT BACK!
I am crying, AGAIN ...it's the 25 th time tonight..........I punished my little monsters (jumping on the bed, having fights and screaming like maniacs ) and said "no story, no dumbo song!!!" and have felt guilty ever since....We just LOVE the song, the movie...Thanks Disney ;) And I feel really lucky for being a mum, and having twins in perfect health who love me as much as I adore them.
how can anybody dislike this, like seriously. dumbo is so cute and adorable and i can't even get past the part when he starts crying in his mother's trunk because it's too sad and adorable at the same time! i mean seriously, who would even think to make fun of a BABY elephant (emphasis on baby) even when he's been separated from his mommy? that's just so mean. i wouldn't even be able to look at myself in the mirror if i did that to somebody, let alone an animal. (i'm in tears as i'm typing this)
This song could make Chuck Norris cry (heck, even Darth Vader would cry with this)! Gotta love this song. One of, if not the best Disney song out there!
my dad sang this to me when I was sad and still sometimes does. I'm 13 when I have a child I'm going to sing this to him every night I cry every time I see this
I used to have this song on a tape. My parents separated when I was 3 so I never saw my mom. I listened to that song every night when going to bed and I had to cry every time because I too had no mom by my side to hug with or fall asleep with.
@LOKITYZ Basically, The little one was getting picked on by circus goers because of his big ears. One kid in particular was giving him a hard time so the mom freaked out on the circus goers and they locked her up in solitary confinement. You should watch the movie, although you probably won't feel much toward it because most people watching it here grew up watching it as a young kid.
@no1caresanymore I disagree. I first saw Dumbo at age 17 or 18 (as part of animation studies, but nevertheless I saw it) and thought it was a fine film.
@LOKITYZ It's a wonderful animal-caring movie about a young elephant named dumbo who is born with large ears and gets picked on about them, the mom gets mad cuz she doesnt like how they're treating her baby, thats why they put her in a cage, and later on dumbo meets the little mouse and he helps him set his mother free from the circus. you should watch it its wonderful.
@Mellmasc same here but of my grand mother she use to sing this to help me get to sleep when I was younger & now I sing it to my step daughter to help her sleep or when she's feeling upset, then she asks me where I learned it I just tell her from Dumbo and my Grand mother
such a great song to pass down from parent to child don't you think :)
@thunderblast1 -pats on the back- it's ok.....I......-bawls in tears- I CRY AT THIS TOO! And I haven't seen this movie in years. It's such a sad scene with a beautiful song.
@Kuramalover86 i know i haven't seen this movie since i was bout 5 or 6 it made me then and it makes me cry now and i'm 16 but it's so sad how can you not cry (starts crying again ) T_T
@SeanaLPurvis ik r! they need a heart for the animals! not a cruel one but a caring one when they can HELP animals not TAKE animals you know? help them, then take em back to where they belong. be heartwarming not heartbreaking!
@Feelhowthishurts this is my favorite disney movie, certainly one of the top three I'd say. Bambi is gorgeous, snow white is perfect, and pinnochio is haunting. I also really like the three caballeros, and black cauldron.
Six idiots need to get in touch with their emotions or have a child... to this day I still cry because I used to rock my daughter, who is now 21 and in college away from home, and sing this to her to get her to sleep. They need to do more magical scenes like this especially in live action movies....
Look up "Angel Baby" by Rosie and the Originals. It may take you a few hits to find the one with the video showing mothers with their babies. Oh so glad that she doesn't mention a boy-friend in the song. So I will continue to sing it to my grand-son. MY "Angel Baby".

how can anybody dislike this, like seriously. dumbo is so cute and adorable and i can't even get past the part when he starts crying in his mother's trunk because it's too sad and adorable at the same time! i mean seriously, who would even think to make fun of a BABY elephant (emphasis on baby) even when he's been separated from his mommy? that's just so mean. i wouldn't even be able to look at myself in the mirror if i did that to somebody, let alone an animal. (i'm in tears as i'm typing this)

This song could make Chuck Norris cry (heck, even Darth Vader would cry with this)! Gotta love this song. One of, if not the best Disney song out there!

I remember watching Dumbo all the time as a kid. Now that I'm older, this movie just depresses me because of this scene. Poor Dumbo. :'(

I used to have this song on a tape. My parents separated when I was 3 so I never saw my mom. I listened to that song every night when going to bed and I had to cry every time because I too had no mom by my side to hug with or fall asleep with.

I've never watched the movie before so i didn't really feel sad, Is it so sad because the story behind it?
LOKITYZ 9 months ago
@LOKITYZ Basically, The little one was getting picked on by circus goers because of his big ears. One kid in particular was giving him a hard time so the mom freaked out on the circus goers and they locked her up in solitary confinement. You should watch the movie, although you probably won't feel much toward it because most people watching it here grew up watching it as a young kid.
no1caresanymore 9 months ago 11
@no1caresanymore I disagree. I first saw Dumbo at age 17 or 18 (as part of animation studies, but nevertheless I saw it) and thought it was a fine film.
GarudaStudio 9 months ago

Feelhowthishurts 10 months ago
@Feelhowthishurts this is my favorite disney movie, certainly one of the top three I'd say. Bambi is gorgeous, snow white is perfect, and pinnochio is haunting. I also really like the three caballeros, and black cauldron.

Six idiots need to get in touch with their emotions or have a child... to this day I still cry because I used to rock my daughter, who is now 21 and in college away from home, and sing this to her to get her to sleep. They need to do more magical scenes like this especially in live action movies....
