  • It actualy flyes!! fantastic!

  • Now that is sooooo damn cool ... ^_^;

  • incredible!

  • Fifteen years ago, I made one with a YS 45, and needed lead, alot of lead to have a decent,cg. It flew great, but better upside down, because of the drag of the lower part. Your's do not seem to have this problem. Nice flying. The airfoil is known or approximaive. Mine was very approximative.

  • @gaetanboiv did you build the one with built-up balsa?

this flies with very little lead. adding lead to the nose does not affect the pitch stability very much because of the flat airfoil i think. and the tail has little or no angle relative to the wing, just some shaping to the edges to give a bit of downforce. and yes flies inverted very well too. this one has a very flat airfoil, with just some shaping to the leading edge to part the air a bit lower, and trailing edge to give some reflex.

  • @gaetanboiv It was not a kit. I build my own with bue styrofoam sm. It has no rudders. It could have been useful in high alpha. In the wind, it could fly backward. I had video. I will try to find it.

    Yours is great.

  • +I am impressed at the stability of the project, the wind must be very constant where you are and those would be great for commercial products!

  • Holy crap, it flies?

  • That looks fun!

  • Scotty, you're a freakn genius!

Nicely done, looks like a good flyer!

    Casey

  • Dammit, who let Troi at the helm again?!

  • ok, I think I see where the first set of control surfaces are from the model shot hanging from the ceiling in the first part of the video. I think I also saw some movement in one of the flight shots. Very, very nice job and good skills you have. LOL, now I got the bug even worse to build one. It has been a very long time since I did any RC and my old gear isn't legal anymore. From what I remember reading over the years, they changed the frequencies and now electric motors. Thanks.

  • For the life of me I don't see any control surfaces moving, so ... what is the deal? Needless to say I would love to build one also, but I am sure the C/G point is a bit tricky. So, are there plans for this anywhere?

  • @Tsavah there are ailerons at rear of dish, and elevator at rear of tail, maybe you can see it in the photo at the start of the video. i used drawings available online at ex-astris-scientia and widened the dish and made the tail smaller. CG didn't seem much of any issue. have fun and try using some foam steak trays or depron or poster board and build some small free flight models to find CG. just print out some images and trace to the foam. good luk!

  • For the life of me I don't see any control surfaces moving, so ... what is the deal?

  • Let me know when you do the warp 10 speed trials ;) Thanks for the video!

  • the saucer section is a little big.

  • @Hedgehogstudioss good eye... i changed some of the proportions to make it fly better.

  • Excellent!!!!! PSS - Polystyrene Starship Soarer !

  • Heh! I want one! Might build one with twin edf's. Cool glider!!!

  • I can just see people offshore looking at this and saying, "We've got an unidentified... HOLY CRAP IT'S THE ENTERPRISE!!"

  • @Renji9031 that actually just made my day

  • Nice slope soarer!

  • I don't know about you but the real ship doesn't move that fast.

  • wow its a UFO

    lol

  • Das ist echt cool

  • I gota get one of these!Where did you get it?

  • scratch built from junk! ... building tips further down in comments

  • Great job! Great video!!!!!!!!

  • I have to admit I'm impressed, I'd never have seen the potential for that shape as a glider.

  • yep. i agree, it is surprising.

  • what da hell i have one and couldnt fly it it broke due to all the crashes

  • Wow,that's totally cool!

  • i want....

  • worf would be puking his clingon guts up

    hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Milkyway GALAXY, not universe.

  • Na-ha-haice!!:Dlol

  • Do you think your thing could glide on Mt Lema? (See Video Response) Would be cool for a change...

  • awesome gliders. i don't know what the turbulence would be like there - we fly in pretty smooth winds, but it wouldn't hurt to try the "thing" there - my guess is yes it would fly.

  • Gotta admit, that's pretty cool.

  • AWESOME

  • This is freakin' great!

    Wonderful video!

  • thats so freaking awsome

  • That thing is awesome, you should sell kits!

  • nice flying site! Great idea too!

  • very impressive , good job you got and instant smile on my face , 5/5 stars instant classic

  • Too cool!! I love the Federation seal at the end! :D

  • Great idea and it flies very very nice, too!

  • This video has two wrinkles:

A: Scotty didn't work aboard the Enterprise-D, and

B: I felt bad seeing her flying with one nacelle.

  • yeah he did, tng ep relics.... the dyson sphere ep ;)

  • Where are the control surfaces located?

I assume you can control pitch roll AND yaw?

  • it's a 2 channel glider - aileron (roll) and elevator (pitch). no need for yaw.

no mixing. ailerons swept up a bit for reflex (semi flying wing).

on the "forward viewing screen" above 14 sec into video, u can see the tape hinge (over/under style) for ailerons and elevator. i used white glue and flexible strips from an untearable envelope.

  • do u have any idea how much money u can get if u go to the studio with this

  • cool!!!

  • that thing flys pretty damn good!

  • Her flight reminds me of the episode BOOBY TRAP. When Geordi used simulations to chart a course away from the radiation field.

  • mmm... Leah Brahms...

  • Sexy lady!

  • No don't let it fall in the water! You're scaring me! Nice though.

  • This is a thing, and I makes me sad.

  • what? you are sad?

  • how can it fly?

  • Is it not obvious?

  • Warp drive

    lol

  • Pretty sweet

  • wow how about a milenium falcon ... trek on!!!

  • Er, wait... did you buy or make this!?? lol :O

  • umm... why you ask - does it look crappy?? was scratchmade made mostly from garbage.

  • No Its amazing!! lol

I was hoping it was bought cuz I was hoping to buy it haha, but I can appreciate much more seeing as it was made :D

    Great job!!!

  • that whas grate made how did you do it it whas perfect glider

  • That is incredible! I wish I had one of those Enterprise-D gliders

  • thats brilliant it must have taken a lot of practice to flight or glide like that

  • if you guys could make one of the uss voyager, that would be amazing!!

  • That is incredible! You guys should market this glider err STARSHIP.

  • the ca$h would be nice! i could build my federation fleet i always dreamed of!

  • Ohh that is to cool man,I want one!!!

  • Wow, yanmnman,... VERY impressive. Even missing a nacelle, you manage to keep her going. Thank you for sharing.

BTW, RaVeNX8706, it was designed by hand on a drawing board, not on a Mac.

  • You guys are my heroes!!!

I think this one was custom made but I know at the last ST:CON I went to they had miniature 1701-A s and a Klingon Bird of Prey that could fly. Not nearly as cool as this though!!!

  • Hello:

Where the planes of that wonderful design can be obtained?.

I am fan of star trek .

    Thanks

  • Its funny knowing this was originaly designed on a mac computer so many years ago and was never designed to be actually flight worthy just a concept and to see it actually fly is amazing.

  • Im drooling over that thing man, where in the alpha quadrent did you get that? Ebay?

  • THAT

    is a thing of beauty.

  • thanks! - i think it's cool, too - i was totally tickled flying it 'cause it looks "real" - believe it or not the whole glider was made from recycled building insulation from a garbage dumpster, popcycle-stick control-surface horns, 1/8" dowel push rods, paper clip linkages, tape, and a bit of lead, plus magic markers. yep, it's made from garbage, but i'm planning on a "nice" version, i.e. a real sloper, and turn this one into an electric flyer even tho' this one flies ok as a sloper.

  • by the way, it rolls great, and flies super

inverted. picture a big fat scotty flattened to the ceiling. :) too bad half the world is mistaking this vid for the mattel/tyco electric powered coming out next year (2009).

  • That is really cool! Well done.

  • hey, we were flying the enterprise as a glider in Earth's atmosphere, even trimming the grass with it, but losing a nacelle as a result. however, Picard and his crew needed things like port thrusters and impulse engines and a bunch of other crap to fly in space or in an atmosphere. who's the better pilot!?

  • that is so awesome

  • lol I like how the wind gave it that engine sound.
