  • I agree with your statement that there is no repulican that is running that can beat Obama. It's a shame that this is the best than they can offer out of all the people in America. Evey single one has skeletons in their closet's & even the people in their party do not even like any of the running for office, like it or not Obama is a shoe in unless there is some big scandal that pops to turn the tide against him, but I do not think there are any scandals in Obama's past that could be real threat

  • samo bila je pravo sjebana.. ko joplinka samon što ona nikad nije bila pri sebi..

  • 'The rabbit' almost made me cry...never heard of her before now. What a fascinating woman, like a white Billie Holliday, the same pain...

  • great video

  • Ihave in my possesion two reel to reel tape masters featuring Karen Dalton. What would something like that be worth.

  • in love

  • Thank you.

  • This, my friends, is reality...

  • I actually think that she looks a little like Catherine Zeta-Jones.

  • What a talent & true artist

  • OMG so beautiful....

  • She ruined the modern woman for me.

  • Blues Jumped a Rabbit was a straight blues line recorded, with accompanying vocals, by jazz wizards like Jimmie Noone in the 30s. Karen took the line and made her own song much better than the original. . .her voice gets right between yer toes, don't it?. . .sorry I missed her1st time around

  • @Rabidburt .. Blues jumped the rabbit run him a solid mile is also a blind lemon jefferson line from 'rabbit foot blues' recorded 1925-1926.

  • Did Billie Holiday's spirit simply jump into Karen Dalton? She is so incredible. Yeah, she can't sing like Julie Andrews -- but then Julie Andrews can't sing the blues or jazz effectively, can she? Karen has an astonishing grip on this type of music. Sounds as if she lived every word. Billie Holiday comparison's aside -- Karen is excellent. Her sincerity comes through with every note. Rare with today's singers.

  • !!!!! so happy I found Karen dalton... she sings me to sleep

  • This song was recorded back in the late fifties or early sixties by Charlotte Daniels and Pat Webb. I first heard this song called, "When The Blues Chase Up A Rabbit". Great song. Don't know who the composer is. Her fingerpicks look like the ones that ProPik puts out. You can superglue fake nails on metal fingerpicks to cut down on the "metal to metal" sound.

  • hello, can anybody tell me what these brass things on here right fingers are? some sort of finger plec, thats easy to see. but can you purchase stuff like that or is it probably hand made?

    thanks

  • amaizing, amaizing. so glad I found her.

  • See: Os Velhos da Montanha

  • you sound like Billie Holiday :o)

  • RIGHT ?????????????

  • everything about this video is one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen. so graceful, she was.

  • love it ! <3

pliz, can anybody can give me the lyrics, i can't find them anywhere, and i'm french, I don't understand all the words...

would be veru very nice !

  • any one know the chords?

  • the french translation at the bottom is way off ! haha ... lovely song though I must say Karen Dalton knows whats up

  • This was really beautiful

  • simply amazing

  • Check out the version by 'Hot Lips Page'.

  • tan querible, ta, ta querible...

  • Fred Neil used to do this (he wrote liner notes for her album). What an amazing artist. (Karen OR Fred)

  • You don't happen to know if Fred ever recorded his version of this song do you? I'd love to hear that.

  • 'Fraid not. I heard him do it a couple times in Miami, but it's not on any of the various compilations or his original albums. I've heard (as the saying goes) that there's still material in vaults, but I suspect that this was just something he pulled out once in awhile for variety's sake.

  • No Glamour...So Pure and True...

    So Beautiful..:-)

  • Hi- Does anyone know the lyrics or where I can find them? Thanks!

  • thank you for sharing

  • brilliant tune. the guitaring is mega.

  • hippie power

  • Beautiful!

  • I love this angel. She is just so way cool y'know it hurts me too.

  • So poignant....

  • She is missing two teeth and still singing without making a whistling sound on the S's. That is brilliant !!!

Basic emotional cover with a few chords played on an acoustic guitar accompanied by a melancholy voice singing . Sounds like the a common formula for many musicians. I wouldn't call this genius. It is decent in its genre but definitely not genius.

    Katie Cruel is genius

John Lee Hooker "Tupelo" now that is genius !

  • This is great stuff - and like everyone else, am wondering how I never heard of Karen before. She joins the very short list of more than decent female guitar players.

  • A note of thanks to all who helped keep my moms music playing.

  • I'm a friend of the who helped for that ...His name is Stéphane We are french and I 've been so greatfull for him too because I 've really discorvered one of the most touching voices (with billie holliday) of the world !

I don't forget how she was playing guitar : so nice

Thanks to your Mom and I try to share her music with a lot of people

  • and sorry for my bad english written

  • This is beautiful music, my only regret is that I only recently discovered her and now I can't seem to get enough! Do you know if there is any music tab for this or Katie Cruel?

  • katie cruel is a folk song. so you can find the lyrics and tabs anywhere

  • is she on xtc or with osho? maybe both, or?!

  • Sorry for your non respect : I think you must wash your hair 3 times a day with your shampoo and you win a lot of money ?

You're must be SO clean and so straight , and SO BORING

TOO bad you can hear a so beautiful music you don't deserve it

  • I didn't mean to be offensive, just show a FACT, and put a little sense of humor just to be non dramatic about that FACT. It seems you're pretty boring too. I'be being loved this woman for sure more years than you seem to have on your back. Anyways... I don't know you and you don't know me so... forget what I said and I'll forget you.

  • Wow this translation seems to be way off :\

  • I like how the translation gives allusions to her (or her pain) being the rabbit. I wonder if they meant to do that.

  • too bad

  • How come I missed her? I was very much into music then, I was about 16 when this song came out and she got no airplay, that I can remember. Such a pity.

  • She was pretty much an NYC--East Coast singer. Her music would pop up on some "underground" stations back in the day but, no, she didn't get much airplay at all, as I recall.

  • ONE OF THE VERY BEST AUTHENTIC AMERICAN TREASURES!

I have loved Karen Dalton's music for so many years. Thank you for this archival footage I never saw before. We are blessed to have it.

  • simply extraordinary! Such a wonder and such a blown save(sports metaphor, egad!). I'm sorry Ms Dalton, couldn't you live a lil longer, for me?

  • i just looked up the history of this song and i love what Dalton did with it, lyrically and overall. deep yet breezy, easy to relate to. perfect.

  • If blues had not jumped the rabbit, I would have had the blues all my life.

  • this woman is "The Voice"

  • I don't care what anyone says. She is one of the sexiest women ever. Missing tooth and all. Authentic and mysterious. Listen to the sadness and depth! Unreal.

  • Agreed.

  • The real thing!

  • Blind Lemon Jefferson is a hard act to follow -- but I do love her voice

  • I love this video shes so beautiful her voice is so haunting

  • I'm absolutely stunned.

    Thank you.

  • best thing i've seen in ages. an absolute gem of a video. thank you!

  • The french translation is crap.

    émi H.

  • To cedririric

You say the translation is crap... For me it's a honnest work, the translation tells what it is said in the song. But I agree, in translations, a better work is always possible. As it seems you can do it here: send us your work. It would be nice from you to help us to have a better understanding of american songs. Thanks for your translation work that will come soon. Merci d'avance.

  • Touche! hahaha, love this woman, such a waste of talent and opportunity.

  • Hiragabaka,

    Ahhh Karen Dalton

I wish there was more, but it is what it is.

In some ways, the meagerness of Karen's song book makes each tune that remains all the more cherished.

In that regard, In some ways I am glad there is just a small songbook, like Robert Johnson, not much in quantity but each is nonpareil. The want for more of her tunes makes me ache a bit more when I hear what is there.

    Peace to you.
