First of all, yes.. we DO know what we are doing....At 12 teachers taught us the body parts and how they work. At 5th grade we learned about sex. there is no "proper age", IMO. since everyone is different, has different beliefs and life experiences you cannot pinpoint a certain age everyone should lose it or consider losing it. whenever you (and hopefully your partner, if you have one) decide it is time and feel its the right time is the time that is right. :) whenever you make the decision that it is indeed the right time for you you should always make the conscious decision to protect yourself and your partner with the right protection.

that is a very general and unrealistic statement. what is the "best decision" for you may not be the "best decision" for another (or many others). some people don't like the idea of marriage for a variety of reasons and do not want to marry, they just want to be committed. they aren't going to wait for marriage since they don't plan on marrying. to each their own. like i said, it may be the best decision for you, but for many others its not...everyone is different.

My personal view is to wait until marriage. That's what I did, but given the culture today my more realistic answer would be to wait until you are with someone that you truly believe would be a GOOD SPOUSE/PARENT. But for you women out there wait until marriage or at least an engagement ring, cause if you don't then you may be with the same guy for like 7 years without getting married. No decent woman likes that. Remember, don't expect him to buy the cow if he gets the milk free :)
