@Thorneycroft1937 I don't agree that that was the best(I felt her voice was too deep on that song), but I do agree with you that as she was getting older she was holding that last note longer. There are plenty of other performances on youtube where she holds it alot longer, so this one was a bit unsatisfying in that regard. However, the power of it more than made up for the short length.
beautiful song ... (Gilbert Bécaud)

Greatest female singer ever, and I've heard them all!

Great performance, but Shirley can hold the end note much longer, she gave the best version of this last year in London in my book!

At the age of 72 Shirley Bassey's voice is a lot more deeper, more powerful and louder creating an even more dramatic feel to the song.

Totally agree, the 2009 Electric Proms version is the best!

The Electric Proms version is one of my favourites, another great version is Amsterdam 1980.
Agree with you about the end notes.

@Thorneycroft1937 yes, the Amsterdam 1980 is one specific one I had in mind. Just brilliant!

I remember this video! I love early Shirley(and all Shirley!)!

Nobody sings this classic like Shirley, not even Sinatra or Elvis, she is unbeatable with this song!
Thanks very much!

@Thorneycroft1937 Judy Garland's (at the London Palladium) is the best version, although Shirley's rival's that!
