I was 8 years old when this came out. It still sounds fresh. What happened to music?

I'm going to load this CD, and crank up my '70s 130 watt per channel Marantz, and do a "drunk uncle" dance cuz I could see one of my uncles back in the day with a drink in his hand getting his groove on to music like this. Psychedelic soul jazz.
