Nice job! But I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings. I used to play it like this but Bill Kirchen (Hot Rod Lincoln etc., who learnt it from Don Rich) showed me the correct way. In the opening lick, and subsequent shapes, you don't play the top E as an open string, you play it at the 5th position on the B string and HOLD IT DOWN thru all the subsequent notes you play above it. This then gives you two notes ringing through the phrase. Check out Don Rich's left hand on the YouTube video.
Hey dedepick, Thats some awesome pickin ! Lovin it all. Any chance of you doing another Don Rich and the Buckaroos Guitar solo on here in the future ? Its a Guitar solo that Don did called " Chaparral " I think it'd be an ideal one for you to share ! Would you please consider it ? I'd greatly appreciate it buddy ! And again, Thanks for all you do for us on here. You're Awesome !
great pickin i cant seem to get my fender tele to sound right with this tho im running it thru a all original 1964 fender vibrolux reverb ,dunnoo may just be the pick ups in the tele lol
I just love this tune, it has such a happy feel to it, all the years I have known this song I never ger sick of it. In fact this was the song that inspired me to buy a Fender Telecaster. As a child I would watch Hee Haa and was always amazed by Buck, As a guitar player I feel that I had to go thru him to find myself. R.I.P Me Owens
Hey when your ready to move to Florida I 've got the back up band fdor You .Play the beach at Panama City beach for Spring break!!!ledfootjohnny@yahoo,com
This is the best version of this tune I have ever heard - including the original. It's a very simple tune but believe me, it needs a good player to pull it off. This is great!
Great picking dede. I was in Vietnam in 66 and Armed Forces Radio would do their country music hour about 5 pm or so with this song as the lead in by Don Rich (I guess it was Don). I always think of Vietnam when I hear it. Very good job.
Man you just nailed it. I believe it's the best version I have ever heard. I use another version as my ring tone and everyone always stops and listens. Many times I must play it for them again. Great job!!!!!!!!!!
Don't be too hard on jamesdionne13. The 13 probably designates his age or his IQ - or both. He doesn't realize what a great guitar player dedepick is.

Don Rich would have been proud!
This is indeed a very nice version. But if you've only heard Buck's recorded version, you should also check out the late great Clarence White's version on the Tuff 'n' Stringy compilation. He stays very faithful to the original, but his solo is jaw-dropping.
