Nice job! But I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings. I used to play it like this but Bill Kirchen (Hot Rod Lincoln etc., who learnt it from Don Rich) showed me the correct way. In the opening lick, and subsequent shapes, you don't play the top E as an open string, you play it at the 5th position on the B string and HOLD IT DOWN thru all the subsequent notes you play above it. This then gives you two notes ringing through the phrase. Check out Don Rich's left hand on the YouTube video.

I know what it is. My band plays a lot of country from that era. I was just referring to the guitarists Fender Telecaster guitar. The older ones are somewhat sought after. Mine was made in '53. Maple-board Teles and Fender Twin Reverb amps define the whole Bakersfield guitar sound. You must be misunderstanding me. It didn't help that I hit "post" twice by accident. Awesome picking. Don Rich would have been proud!

This is indeed a very nice version. But if you've only heard Buck's recorded version, you should also check out the late great Clarence White's version on the Tuff 'n' Stringy compilation. He stays very faithful to the original, but his solo is jaw-dropping.
