@sleeper028 I LOVED THESE STREAMLINERS SPECIALLY THE SANTA FE VERSION WHEN I WAS A KID I DREAMED OF AN DIE CAST ELECTRIC MODEL KIT FROM A GEMAN COMPANY "MARKLIN" BUT IT WASNT AFFORDABLE FOR ME.
You guys should really make a video of the MKT KATY railroad! I love Miss Katy <3
But I love the Santa Fe. Nothing beats the Warbonnets! I'm very greatful I still get to see silver and red warbonnets where I live every once in a while.
sorry i dont have your works yet. but i can see you guys make quality productions. are you guys going to ever film trains in kc? possibly BNSF st joe line?
The theme music is familiar: it is identical to the signature music of the original Australian-produced TV series "Wings" on the Discovery Channel in the late 1980s. Does anyone know the name of that theme?
My dad worked for and retired from the Santa Fe Railroad..(was BNSF when he actually retired). I remember when they were trying to merge with the SP and repainted quite a few engines before the merger was approved. They called them the "Vomit Bonnets".
looks like it was a beautiful time to be alive. the music is stuninly beautiful, wow the warbonnets that were the cause for those on todays BNSF wow the funny yellow and blue schemes wow the smoke wow the fancy stations.
Did I hear somebody mention the warbonnet paint scheme? The man most responsible for that being so famous around the country, especially in the eastern part of the country is Lawrence Cowan. H'e the son of Joshua Lionel Cowan. It was Larry that got the idea to convince the Santa Fe & New York Central to go along with EMD to put up 1/4 the cost of the dies for pdoduction of Lionel's model of the F3 in 1948. The rest is history.
Does anyone know why the lights on the engine at 0:30 are flickering? I thought it was just the film footage but none of the other engine's lights are doing that.
@ GreenFrogVideos There were F9s still operating for Cliffs Resources hauling taconite up in Northern Minnesota on The Range. You guys should consider making a documentary about them. A well preserved piece of history, hidden in a remote part of the country.
this may sound like a stupid question but it has always intrigued me, at 2:55 you have the lead engine, then you have those 2 following cars, what are the 2 cars used for? like is it something to do with a bit of extra power?
i live in australia, and our diesels dont have them and ive never knew what they were used for
if anyone could tell me it would be much appreciated :)
the lead engine with the cab is called an 'A' Unit, and the ones with no cab are Called 'B' Units, and supply as much power as an 'A' unit, basically for longer trains
Some of these scenes are just awesome... LIke the F7's whooshing past the Kansas windmill.. The Alcos smoking it up at :54, the Super Chief slinking through Cajon Pass, and then of course, the Super Chief blazing across Illinois at 2:54. Great stuff!!
Not the Super Chief but the El Capitan blazing across Illinois. Sure glad they made that and the other correction to the DVD from VHS ("transverses" not "transposes") the western and middle...
@StormyDuo, you, me and so many others. I live in the Buffalo, NY area. We have the central terminal which closed back in 1980 but wish their was more footage back the 1940's to 1960's.
There will never be another railroad more mighty than the ATSF. It will never be forgotten. It will always live on. Its a shame it had to merge. The merge was the biggest mistake in railroad history IMO.
Born in 1990 I was so happy to witness ATSF's final years before the merger with BN in 1995, Man ATSF in my books is the best railroad to ever role in the rails, and to this day in 2009 still does!!! LONG LIVE ATSF!
The Warbonnet scheme was initially developed for the ATSF's passenger trains. When the road transfered the operation of its passenger services to Amtrak in 1971, it mostly abandoned this paint scheme. That is, until the 1990's, when it was reintroduced onto its diesels. That of course, very unfortunately, ended shortly after the BNSF Merger. As for the car not being able to keep up with the train, some of the SF's top passenger trains traveled up to speeds of 95 mph.
This clip is a perfect fit to my collection of Maerklin HO F7 diesel locs,of which i like the Santa Fe F7 the most,it is a real classic,in the Maerklin programme since the early 1960ties!
I`m Chilean,i live in southamerica but my first electric train was a santa fè railroad, since those years i`ve been collecting HO trains and my fleet still continues being AT & SF. it was very sad to me when this company joint to B.N.
