stone butch blues is a classic transgender themed novel by leslie feinberg. hands down the most influential book i've ever read. feinberg has a newer trasngender themed novel out called drag king dreams.
i am only having a hysterectomy (uterus and cervix only) and top surgery. i don't want to go on T because i don't totally identify as male. my therapist says that once i have the surgeries i may find myself wanting T, which would be natural to want more. i don't think i will, but i've heard that happens with transguys a lot. the way i see it is if your bottom parts work and function and you can enjoy sex, and if you like the rest of your body and feel like a man, then you're a man, period.
Mine ironically has been giving me trans-related books.I do think your therapist has a good point as long as he doesn't carry it too far.You can't help some things. You can however learn to accept the things you absolutely can't change and change the things you are able.Particularly as ftm surgeries are more complicated, transmen do live with some (much a much smaller amount of) dysphoria for the rest of their life. Dysphoria shouldn't rule your life and you are taking steps to not let it.
