@harryfassett Well, I am pretty strict about having structure in my eating plan. That means NO SNACKING and NO CALORIC BEVERAGES. I eat 3 meals a day and that is it, works for me and I hear that is what the French have done for a long time, they have a low obesity rate.
It is a serious problem, OBESITY, especially childhood obesity. Thank you for letting this get the attention it needs, and it needs so much attention. I am white/native American, and from Georgia.... our state has a very high rate of obesity, and I take this problem to heart, joining with all who want to help tackle the issue, "red, brown, yellow, beige, tan, black or white"....... obesity knows no color boundary. In my opinion, the amount of fat kids in the USA is a real poor reflection on this society in general. Parents feed their kids crap, kids live off junk food, soda, chips and all the other crap. I see parents feeding their kids soda and donuts for breakfast....well I guess it is ok because it is low in fat, sugar is good. When I was a kid there was one fat kid in school, that kid by todays standards would not even be fat. I think that lack of discipline is out of control in this country...YUCK.

It has to do with the lack of exercise kids get these days because instead they are spending too much time in front of a tv playing video games. There is probably going to be lots of federal government grant money given to inner city and rural organizations from this program. I think the food stamp program needs to be revamped too. The taxpayers are subsidizing obesity and paying for the Medicaid bills, because of diabetes and heart disease caused by obesity. @harryfassett Well, I am pretty strict about having structure in my eating plan. That means NO SNACKING and NO CALORIC BEVERAGES. I eat 3 meals a day and that is it, works for me and I hear that is what the French have done for a long time, they have a low obesity rate.

I am white/native American, and from Georgia.... our state has a very high rate of obesity, and I take this problem to heart, joining with all who want to help tackle the issue, "red, brown, yellow, beige, tan, black or white"....... obesity knows no color boundary. In my opinion, the amount of fat kids in the USA is a real poor reflection on this society in general. Parents feed their kids crap, kids live off junk food, soda, chips and all the other crap. I see parents feeding their kids soda and donuts for breakfast....well I guess it is ok because it is low in fat, sugar is good. When I was a kid there was one fat kid in school, that kid by todays standards would not even be fat. I think that lack of discipline is out of control in this country...YUCK.

Also, I do not really think that most people know what is a really healthy diet.....is Cornflakes a health food????? And like I said, when you have a job and other responsibilities you most likely will not be able to burn that many calories exercising.....at least not on a long term basis......better to have a disciplined eating regiment.....parents should teach this to their kids.

I mean, my dad didn't even start really getting major health problems until his 40s, and soon after he got a healthier lifestyle. I'm 22, and my eating habits aren't perfect, but they're not even close to what his were.

There is probably going to be lots of federal government grant money given to inner city and rural organizations from this program. I think the food stamp program needs to be revamped too. The taxpayers are subsidizing obesity and paying for the Medicaid bills, because of diabetes and heart disease caused by obesity. Most middle class parents know how to eat healthy, even though they make bad choices from time to time, because it is easier. I don't think they need a gov't program like this.

If only were that easy. Some of us don't live so close to farmers markets or have the time to visit such a place. Cost is bs because farmers markets are more reasonable than the foods in the market. I brought an apple from a farmers market for just 50 cents while in big markets that same apple is for a dollar, so it's not so much the cost but the time to get there. By the time one gets there there aren't any food. Some people don't have time. We all don't live in such luxurious neighborhoods.

imabeatlelover4: You make a lot of ASSUMPTIONS! I lived in a one parent house, my dad brought up 6 girls and he didn't have a clue, if it wasn't for the fact that we were getting milk in the mornings and a healthy balanced diet at lunchtime at school me and my sisters would have been in a lot of trouble, my dad just didn't have the time to earn a wage and be a good parent so what was happening at school was critical to our healthy development, this is just one story but I think it is very common

Healthy lunches are still served at schools, nutrition is taught in schools & people understand by now that a piece of fruit is healthier than a candy bar
$400 Billion program: To "help" convenient stores have healthier options. Stores sell what their customers want. Also $ on efforts to put nutritional values on the front of packages instead of the back
People will either get chips at a 7/11 or not.. Look for the nutrition on pkgs.. or not

PS : i'd want to add Mrs. Michelle Obama, AND Her Husband, The President, DO are convinced with what they propose - here or somewherelse ; if you read their AUTHORIZED biography (s), you'll be able to see they try to settle all this A LOT before they are at The First Place of the Country.

This does not go far enough!!!
The White House needs to issue a daily menu for each and every America so we can be sure we're all eating correctly.
Those that deviate from the menu should be jailed for 30 days!!
Or better yet..
We can just demand that the Gov't provide us our meals at each and every day to be sure we don't deviate.........
