This is why the record execs (who have since been slain by pirate downloaders), hated Punk so much; it created a whole segment of the population who were resistant to their sales campaigns, the touting of all the things that the sheep unquestionably buy (like Dark Side of the Moon). They had the police squash Punk until they could come up with a sanitized version, Punks who would play ball (Green Day). It's all a scam.

Punk bands playing larger venues, like the DKs, had their shows broken up by the police. The Ramones weren't that affected, they weren't very controversial, but most other bands were hassled. Soon clubs flat-out refused to book Punk acts; after a while, there were none. I guess things weren't so bad in Berkeley, Green Day was able to start it again.

The rest of the band despised Johnny's dress code but when you strip someone down and put them in a uniform you can really see the individual and they stand out for who they are and what they do.
