  • great idea.

  • Fords used to have a 1 wire starter for years the reason for the fender solonoid.

One of the tougher starters to get out is one off of a old 7.3 IDI that 3rd bolt can be a real bitch LOL.

  • Adsence must be kicking their ass that they aint on ur vids, with the views ur getting. Right On! Dave. #1 automotive channel on Youtube.

  • nice work dave

  • Ingenious. Dave, can you add to this with a schematic diagram showing what you did? Please. Thanks.

  • Great to see these kind of vids again! Thanks for posting this!

  • If Dave could clone himself, and work for all the big car companies...they wouldn't need a bailout. :-D

  • Dave is so smart is mind blowing

  • Shit now this is thinking outside of the box!

  • That's a great repair. I never thought of doing that.

  • Dave, Why didn't you just swap the solonoid part from the starter with another one on your spare strarters ? Most ford stuff in Austrailia runs Bosch starters and the solonoid off any bosch started will fit onto it.

  • @hurenkamp it would be more work to remove the starter then.

  • @Davidsfarmlives Did you make sure you sprayed some die electric grease on the copper terminals to keep them from corroding?

  • @JimmyRayhere oops , good idea

  • @JimmyRayhere But if he buys grease, that means he can't buy as much beer! Shame on you.

  • @hurenkamp not entirely true dude, there are plenty of variations and types of bosch starter motor....

  • I had a refurb starter for my '89 F-250 5.0, went bad within 2 years. But Pep Boys honored the warranty and gave me another one. I didn't even have the original receipt. My starter's different though, it only has the top solenoid by the battery.

  • you should work for NASA!

  • hey dave, describe the other ways to skin a cat...

  • Awesome!

  • 4:30 Oh my, who needs a buzzer on the farm?

I was under the impression that all farmed vehicles came stock without one lol

Positive mechanical engagement is a certainty with you Dave.

  • Can you another garbage picking adventure? Dave

  • Sweet!!

  • Nice vid Dave!

  • Nice work dave. i did this on my ford camper van. i was too cheap to grab another starter . btw dave did you at least tape the hell out of that wired bridge. going to the starter? so it doesnt short?

  • Lol redneck cheap

  • nice!!!!

  • whats the first 1 seconds clip ? next vid ? teaser :P

  • Fantastic Fix Dave, Take my hat off to your repair, for a farm fix, Epic.

  • when a ford has to be repaired at davidsfarm you DAVESFRAM IS BACK!!! YAA!!

  • Good job dave!

  • Genius.

  • Dave has inspired me so many times to think outside the rules and laws of physics, that I now believe this world would be far more advanced if we all had open opportunities to make our own way, from a child on up. So many things people could have if the government knew how to trust instead of control.

  • @l6j8b32 Right on!! It's society's fault!!!

  • Bloke will be happy man!!!

  • So basically you just hooked it up backwards??

  • Great How-to Vid make more. How about ur old Ford f 250 3/4 ton since u love working on Fords so much, hehe. We miss the sound of the old cheviac racing around ur track.

  • AWESOME vid Dave you are the man!

  • I've done that

  • dave should start a redneck repairs website with how-to's... so when people dont wanna waste money on theyre beaters they can redneck repair it

  • can you draw a diagram of what you did?

  • I love redneck repairs!!

  • what would the people do without you fixing stuff!

you really are a mechanical god.

was it good weather up north for this to be a nude repair job????????? even though this is clearly an incredible video i'm still making this one CUTE.

  • ...i know another way to skin a cat but if I told I'd end up with a haters club bigger than dave's :P

  • About time the YouTube knuckle head put dave back on!

  • lol i got the same truck the starter was pretty easy to put into that 4.2l

  • I love your vids dave.keep em coning!YOU ARE THE MASTER OF CARS!!

  • i love you...

  • i couldnt follow that lol

  • did u fix the halfmaster yet?

  • Dave, have you be told by aliens, how cars works? because you seem to know EVERYTHINGS about cars and how to repairs any kind of motor.. just awesome skills dude ;) thumbs up

  • nice one dav good to see some fixing vids agan DAVIDSFARMROCKS!!!

  • nice Dave! i love watching videos like this! gotta be my favorite DavidsFarm videos! the tutorial and informative ones :)

  • Looks good!

  • There is a minor issue with the repair. Now the solenoid and armature are

engaged at the exact same time when power is applied.

Whereas with the original design, the armature

is guaranteed not to spin prior to when the starter gear engages the flywheel.

Now, if the solenoid is ever "slow" to engage, the armature will spinup

anyway, making it harder for the teeth to grab onto the flywheel, resulting

in some grindage. But that usually happens in the winter. So all is well and good :-)

  • yer well ya gotta tip ya hat to this one

  • i missed ur videos

  • Now thats the Daves farm videos I like and remember.

  • Man I love yuor videos, Dave. Not only did you find the solution to the problem but this was acctually educational. Thank you!

  • cool video man! what can't u fix?

  • yeah ! a true davids farm vid ! thats what i missed ! great vid ! you know your shit dave cheers and thanks ..

  • Awesome fix Dave!

I wonder why that just didn't design it like that from the start.

All the Millions of dollars ford spends on research..., they could have hired you for a lot cheaper I'm sure, and they could have had a better cheaper to make vehicle.

    You rock always dave!!

  • I once made new contacts out of a copper pipe fitting. It's still working in a daily driver 2 years later.

  • I am a die hard Ford guy Dave.I never thought i would learn anything about a ford from you..lol..But i did...You are a true mechanical genius...Thanks for sharing.

  • Nice vid! great having ya back!

  • cool stuff man.

  • I'm really happy that your back

  • man you some kind of mechanic!, they don't make em like you anymore

  • thanks for the vid Dave :)..

  • Just wondering save did u get rid of the gts

  • Fantastic !!!!!!!!!!! Pretty slick.

  • that's another good thing about for ignition , that & the push button starter connected to the little red wire , whenever the key start breaks in the column.

  • Talking about NASA! Maybe you can buy a SpaceShuttle cheap for the farm! haha

  • awesome fix. The bloke will be happy!

  • Ford has a reserved and dave is deserved it. lol....

  • your back, best repair :)

  • you'd never get away with that if it was a Chevy!!!

  • @462ANIMAL No, with a Chevy you have to add the Ford starter solenoid.

Seriously, that is how you deal with a Chevy with starter heat soak problems when they have headers, add a Ford starter solenoid, basically wired just like this.

  • One of the best redneck repairs. :)

  • Nobody can fix it like you buddy !! They can try it but they dont even come close.....

  • @josderedneck22 thanx man.

  • Wow that was awsome!!!

  • Design engineers are all about saving a few cents here and there, and you have found a redundancy of the system that could save Ford about $3 per car. Why didn't they think of that? Is it as simple as the fact that classical starter motor design has always been to sell new starters together with the solenoid? What's the purpose of that second solenoid?

  • @spelunkerd beats me ?

  • @Davidsfarmlives easer way back off the lock nuts on both big termals push them in turn them 90 good to go

  • @spelunkerd My guess would be for purposes like this. The military often purchases Ford trucks and simple fixes like this can come in handy. Although, I don't know how often this happens to starters, but it's a possibility.

  • @spelunkerd they must have figured its the best way of doing it. After all it was 1998.

  • omg dave your justed the best youtuber video maker ever keep it up

  • Oh no! I'll give Auzzy the benefit of doing things by the book. Interesting solution Dave

  • Very nice trick.

  • WOW you were talking like you were reading a book!!!! Great videos

  • Now thats what iam talking about, These are the kind of videos I really apperate, you redneck repair vids, Dave you should have worked for N A S A ,you could have saved the U. S Goverment about a zillian dollers.

  • another good vid from dave

  • another win on daves farm.

  • My favourite Daves farm vids are always the Redneck repair solutions!

  • @FalconsFlame same...his repair vids are what solidified me wanting to be a technician.

  • @FalconsFlame I agree. These and cold starts.

  • This is all about what we like Dave! Keep it real!

  • Nice

  • So was that a five beer job assuming you got a 12 pack? Haha, i'd be too pished by then to test it!! TCB, Marty.

  • Ingenious! What will you think of next?!!

  • so much space to repair stuff, in european cars they made the engine room etc so tiny so u cant even get an arm down there to move stuff.

  • As always another great video, and an easier cheaper way of doing things that work. Awesome !! Take care.

  • wow thanks for the information that was very educationial ur very smart :) thanks Dave

  • eleventeenth

  • first thing i do is rating thumbs up cause i just know its going to be good :P

  • Good Job Dave.

  • It's incredible how simple some things are to fix, I'd have not thought of that solution, now if only Ford would produce something reliable... :P
