Groove Metal was invited by Pantera and also Machine Head in the early 90's.

In mid and late 80's there was straight Death and Thrash Metal. Listen to Machine Head "Davidian" or Pantera "Walk". These band brought an new Groove sound into the Metal riffs. A Groove Riff and Groove Metal in general is very catchy and slower than "blasting" Thrash Metal riffs with hooky pinch harmonics. Groove Metal have Funky elements. Listen to ealier Devil Driver albums. Its also more Groove Metal.

So Groove Metal was a pioneer and precursor of the following Nu Metal sound in the middle and late 90's. Nu Metal have also "Groove Riffs". Its all insired by Pantera.

Groove Metal bands: Pantera, Machine Head, Prong, Devil Driver, Lamb Of God and some Sepultura and Soulfly songs. (BTW Soulfly is mostly Thrash/Nu Metal)
