I have a 15.4 MacBook Pro that I had to take completely apart for cleaning out.
A friend of mine accidentally spilled some wine on my MacBook Pro. Needless to say, I wasn't very pleased.
What I had to do to make sure it was completely cleaned out was to take it completely apart. Fortunately, there was very little wine and none got to the motherboard.
But, I can look on the bright side; I'm using superior thermal paste on it now: Arctic Silver.
i can fix it without adam b dropped it fixed the dent with a flathead but i ended up buying a new bottom frame and it was not really worth it if its tiny
I got you all beat. My powerbook g4 in my backpack not a computer backpack was left on the roof of my car at night during a road trip, When we hit about 85 mph we heard something fly off the roof. I go to my roomate dude i cant find my backpack i think i left it on the roof. 2 hours later after searching up and down the highway with state troopers we found it. fell off rotated end to end hit a concrete guardrail and dents along the sides protrusion underneath but the screen and HD and DVD 100%
Drone, actually "no" -- we did an abort, so we could all go out to dinner, however, Adam B got Dominick in the right direction, and he sat there with a guide, and in about 8 to 10 hours, he did it himself. Not fun....
oh god. I haven't watched the video yet, but I know it's not easy. My friend dropped his in his backb pack on the way in to work and we had to replace the bottom...it dented in the rom drive. there are no big tutorials, so we just went to work and video taped it all so we knew what to do when putting back together. then of course he voided the warranty BIG time by being cool and signing it inside, so we all at the office signed it in the inside. it'll be worth something some day :\ or not!
I wish I had pictures of my 15" macbook after falling onto its right edge on the arm of an office chair.... The chassis was twisted, and the bottom case was bulged and dented inwards.... Everything worked except the DVD drive wouldn't eject without pushing the drive down to clear the opening...
I later sent it in to replace a blown cooling fan (and the second fan was about to go too), and Applecare replaced the inner frame and bottom case without even being asked.
Oh wow - I too had a similar situation and had to replace the lower case. Not fun at all! I also bought a new top case, but it turns out that you can buy the top case from the newest MacBook Pro with multitouch, and it will work fine! So now I have multi-touch on my first-gen MacBook Pro!
I'm getting a netbook for my birthday (Nov. 15), it'll ship late november/early december. finally i'll be able to fill the mobility gap my desktop can't!
Done that repair plenty of times. It's interesting working with plastic vs aluminum, they both are similar but its a very different material to work with. Hope you got it all working without too many issues! :)
Well, we didn't get to do too much. I took the top case off and realized I'd be there for hours, moving every component. So I sealed it back up, handed it to Dom and said, "Let's go eat!".
I would die a little on the inside if that was my machine, but my guys at the Apple store would be thrilled because they know that means a new purchase for them.

If you don't have a leftover screw from taking apart a computer then you didn't really do anything.
