Probably the hardest rhapsody, in my opinion, together with the 2nd. The 6th is a way easier.
08:09 - 09:00 - smells like remainings of Alkan's Symphony Finale (op. 39 No. 7) and Marche Triomphale (op. 26b). ;D Yeees, Liszt and Alkan were tight contemporaries...
OH MY GOODNESS. The longer I watched this the faster the hands moved until it seriously looked like someone fast forwarded the film. Instead of running out of steam it just got faster and faster. How the hell does someone have the endurance to play this?! WOW.
Wow. At first I was hesitant to watch this video because it was not done during a concert and I thought that the pianist is an amateur. But since this is my favorite Liszt Hungarian rhapsody and I could not find anymore video in Youtube I decided to watch and I was awestruck. Of course, he has some mistakes and maybe the piano geniuses will notice some technical inadequacy, but then this is a difficult piece. Nice work pro.
what the hell is this guy doing playing this on a half-assed piano and posting it youtube?!
do whatever you want to do sir but, here's a performance everybody needs to hear so if you actually want to play this one piece ONLY you still should perform at a concert.
thinking about it thoroughly i would say that Liszt maybe played certain parts more defined and powerful so necessarily just a little slower, but the actual parts that were his personal compositions, which were basically used to connect the different pieces of the rhapsody together, were probably played faster. don't forget that Liszt is considered a better pianist than a composer which actually causes the misunderstanding of considering him rather insignificant.
Plus listen to Ligeti, these composers are obviously after EVOCATION rather than compositional/performance mastery. Artists seem dumb in the musical world these days.
Beautiful interpretation. I play this piece according to the Lassan Friska principal, but yet its a CARNIVAL@! This intepretation is great with the sped up 1st part.
on most important parts though he uses the power needed, altogether it's great. and what a piece this is... Liszt gathered some valuable music and put it together ingenioususly. i have to have all Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies on CD, would anyone please suggest a pianist?
A very fine performance! I allow my self a few personal critiques: 1)I would work more on the pp's (but perhaps it's the recording that flattens the dynamics) 2)On that piano I would use more pedal; your pedalling is correct for a grand piano. Excellent job! Post more!
stop critisizing if you're not able of playing this better!!! of course everybody can improve and pianist need good advises and not (oh it's horrible)
nice reductio ad absurdum. I'm after the kindergarten level. probably the sound sucks and the piano, but he's in control with great technique and very musical
and why would we care what you think then? and a reductio ad absurdum is just a fallacy you just have been using... insisting that anyone who thinks this is not what you think is not after kindgarten level you gobshite
It's a stop and go performance.

yes excellent its a shame the piano is out of tune
afertyus1000 3 years ago
Out of tune.... not much. If you notice that one, you'd need a defillibrator. When playing the 4th and 5th Cs, they sound like C-B.
Great performance by the way. Keep it up!!

Hi again sorry, my last comment didn't make any sense.
Just ignore that one ;D
Great performance! Try some of the other hungarian rhapsodies too! Would love to hear you play them ;D

No offense, you out grew this piano....get a good grand. Please...you have great technique on a sucky intrument.
maestroanth 4 years ago 2
His technique is ridiculously good....
maestroanth 4 years ago 2
i agree, this piece should be played this fast. i bet Liszt played some parts even faster, if that's humanly possible.
ibclappin 4 years ago
nah faster doesn't always equal as colorful....that's all liszt would have done.
maestroanth 4 years ago
thinking about it thoroughly i would say that Liszt maybe played certain parts more defined and powerful so necessarily just a little slower, but the actual parts that were his personal compositions, which were basically used to connect the different pieces of the rhapsody together, were probably played faster. don't forget that Liszt is considered a better pianist than a composer which actually causes the misunderstanding of considering him rather insignificant.

I think this interpretation would make Liszt proud to what he was imagining.

he needs way more power on his left hand and more pedal. overall it's a good performance but the music could sound a lot better.
ibclappin 4 years ago
People should stop commenting ....this is no lullaby....I am practicing this piece...be sure its no joke....Liszt has created complexities....

reductio ad absurdum is a legitimate logical device and no, i didn't use it. it doesn't mean "absurd logic" like you think it does hahahahaha.
