Those are just films. I've lived all over the east end, Bow, Stepney, Stratford, Mile End and I can tell you that those films don't exactly represent it accurately. Course the are some rough areas but the 'old' east end doesn't really exist that much now. Shoreditch, Brick lane, Hoxton are some of the trendiest parts of London now. Just nice bars, clubs, restaurants filled mainly with 'creative' types'. Go further east and things change a bit, but its not all GEEZERS AND GUNS these days.

Spitalfields market has been refurbished and has different markets later in the week and weekend. The east end used to be nasty even five years have made a huge difference. I know the governemnt asked for them to come over after the second world war. I'm not talking about a handfull of Indians on brick lane, what about all the other Pakistanis, Africans and Eastern europeans. They have totally changed the character of the east end, and not for the better.
