The fact that whites live in impoverished conditions doesn't mean that their not racially privileged. They still be poor and not be looked at as poor because of their being white and poorness is not a "socially normal" or "accepted" trait of "whites". Meanwhile, the reverse is true for blacks.
What you say makes sense, but I think that the media demonizes all poor people, regardless of skin colour. With that being said, I also think that whites are not seen as poor because of their race, but because of their habits, meanwhile, blacks can be seen as low and dirty attributively towards their skin colour. Society does not equate being white with being poor, yet, being black can easily be equated with being poor, especially if their city is mentioned as well as their skin colour.
I can't comment with great proof behind my argument seeing as I don't watch much T.V and tend to stray from "the media", but I think that ghetto culture is only promoted to a certain degree. The ghetto is still portrayed as an unsafe and generally unclean place to live in most of what I see on the news and such, and affluent neighborhoods are still more associated with white people.

Perhaps you have heard something Wise has said that implies this, but I have not. Much of what privilege entails is transparent to whites because aspects of it involve the absence of certain disadvantages rather than the presence of advantage. That's why it's so easy to be unaware of them, especially when you are struggling yourself as this woman is.

@jahaudmk I got that statistic from the FBI. Are they on drugs, too? There's more. Blacks are responsible for 85% of race crime. Black on white crime is much more common than the other way around. Blacks are 39 times more likely to commit a violence crime against a white than vice versa.

@reg12269 Yes but they (media/society) are getting are people young now. Through television, via internet, schools, advertisements. These kids even middle class are born/raised in poorly kept neighborhoods. We don't have a choice but to sympathize, but we do have to realize the truth, whites as well, inorder to fix USA's problem. I've seen whites on youtube, if you talk about race issue, they will claim there is no racism in the US, it's black ppl fault, getover it and include racist remarks!

@JayJ004 I AGREE. ultimately, since whites have disproportionately more power, they have to do more changing before things will change. i went to a white friend's home last year and her 10 yo son actually believed me when i said i was barak obama just laying low for the weekend. he clearly had never met a black man before and had ZERO reference point. even his buddy called his mom up to say obama was right there at his friend's home and wanted to take pics and have me sign things (said no)

Just how whites in the 1930's, 1960's and 1990's majority claimed that there was no racism at the time being, and always have been wrong on the issue of race. But these white people are the ones (not all) but majority of the people who really control society, are white. And when that happens they grant these white people access, due to the legacy of slavery including, jim crow,segregation, "war on drugs". Also ppl have bad perceptions of blks, so that effects with schoolin, work etc.

If a black or white person suggests that "white privilege" truly exists, why do some people think that automatically means that they are promoting "black privilege"? That is an extreme view to take.Equality means an end to built-in advantage so that everyone can truly succeed according to his own efforts. When blacks fought for equality, extremists automatically said "blacks really want to take over." This "all-or-nothing" mindset is irrational. The person who thinks that way is an extremist.

The ability to realize that another man's perspective can be different , but no less valid and real than your own, is a positive attribute- not a negative one.A white man able to put himself in a black man's shoes and understand his perspective is not "guilt-ridden", he is just being truthful and empathetic. It is pretty obvious that a specific race would be favored in a country that is run mostly by that race. The focus of race is diminishing though. It's only been a few generations since the civil rights movement and we have definitely come a long way. I look at the way my parents and grand parents look at race compared to how I look at race and see huge steps forward. There will always be extremists, but it's looking like a bright future all together.

Its annoying though when white people believe that every other country feels they are great. Its like when the white person goes to Japan they think all the jap girls will rush for them which might be true but if they wanted buy a house there or get an overdraft from the bank things would become very difficult very quickly and they will experience the scale of asian privilege.

@MsFrittas different situation in the U.S. as a white person in japan u are s.th. like an immigrant. blacks live in US 4 generations blacks are 100 % americans and should be seen as normal standard americans who lived in a country for centuries...and thats the fucking difference...but some times they are not seen as equal....if whites would live 4 centuries in japan and their appearance is norma there..then they might do not feel that asian privilege !!

To me T.V shows show an aweful lot of Non whites. How many T.V Shows are non white? There is a whole bunch of Black T.V shows with Black Families.
I think there are about as many T.V shows with black families as White families for fucks sake. Even 40 years ago alot of T.V Shows like Sanford & Son, Jeffersons ect were Black families
The T.V in general seems to show alot more Non whites than Non Whites we see in the open.

The fact that whites live in impoverished conditions doesn't mean that their not racially privileged. They still be poor and not be looked at as poor because of their being white and poorness is not a "socially normal" or "accepted" trait of "whites". Meanwhile, the reverse is true for blacks.

What you say makes sense, but I think that the media demonizes all poor people, regardless of skin colour. With that being said, I also think that whites are not seen as poor because of their race, but because of their habits, meanwhile, blacks can be seen as low and dirty attributively towards their skin colour. Society does not equate being white with being poor, yet, being black can easily be equated with being poor, especially if their city is mentioned as well as their skin colour.

I can't comment with great proof behind my argument seeing as I don't watch much T.V and tend to stray from "the media", but I think that ghetto culture is only promoted to a certain degree. The ghetto is still portrayed as an unsafe and generally unclean place to live in most of what I see on the news and such, and affluent neighborhoods are still more associated with white people.
