Please remember Capt Blake Russell's family. During his second tour he gave the ultimate sacrifice. He was in charge of one of the 101st Striker Groups. He loved what he did.
@Stinehaus His sacrifice will be remembered. As a fellow paratrooper, I will not forget the sacrifice of my brothers. God bless Captain Blake Russell. I will pray for his family.
You are thinking of the 82nd Airborne originally the 82nd Infantry division the "All American Division".Until World War 2 broke out. Then they were changed to the 82nd Airborne. Also know as the "All Americans"
I would just like to say thank you to all of our troops. My brother is in the 1-101st in Afghanistan. He has already done two tours in Iraq. He has gave so much for our country. All of you are in my prayers and god will protect you and you all will come home.
BR1 is based at Fort Riley, KS., and I've been to both. The 101st has a much more brotherly attitude, and is, to me, a unit that will look out for its own better...
Glad to see the good that our troops are doing over there. It's good to see, because it shuts up the media showing only the few bad things and nothing good! Be Safe! USMC 3 years!
i was in the 101st..i i was proud to be with them last year for my 3 years with them..i wish i could go back! Lots of people see my right shoulder patch and were like" damn you miss 101st too!" we are and always will be a Proud division!
No1Wanderer......TOTALLY AWESOME VIDEO!!...I served with the 1st Bde 101st Abn Div on my first tour in the Nam 67-68.....I've got a few videos, CIRCLE ON THE CROSS
SOME GAVE ALL & PAINTED FACES....The last 2 are a tribute to the last unit I served with in the Nam.
E Co (Long Range Patrol) 20th Inf (A) & C Co (Ranger) 75th Inf (A) First Field Force Vietnam.
And, yes, the 506(Easy Company) and Major Winters were very busy guys during WW2. They were later stood down as a brigade, but just about 2-3 years ago, it was re-activated when the 101 went back to four full brigades. Easy Company rides again!
Major General William Lee made that statement as part of his address to the 101st (HOOAH!!)just before their drop into Normandy. This was their first battle jump, and their first deployment ever as a unit. The 101 was formed specifically for that engagement, and so had no history prior to Normandy, but they, truly, had a RENDEVOUS WITH DESTINY!! So, ever since, the SCREAMING EAGLE motto, and the words they live by, are "Rendevous with Destiny!" God love them and protect them ALL.
You just get the unit or reenlist for it. Really nothing big. Just to warn you though- just because you GET the 101st doesn't mean you'll be doing stuff like the video. That looks like OIF I.
Thank You for your service. What the politicians are doing in no way detracts from the sacrifices our people are making to do a job they believe in. You are ALL heroes, and the protesters and left-wingers can all go to hell.
I'm glad to see this video on YouTube. My son was in the 22MPAD out of Ft Bragg and was responsible for producing this video. The 22nd was assigned to the 101st in Mosul for about 11 months. They helped get Mosul television back on the air along with Iraqi Freedom News publications. The memorial at the end was added by the 101st when they were back in the states.
Im in the fusiliers (British Army Infantry Regiment) and i served along side the 101st at the start of Op telic (Invastion into Iraq in 03) and just wanted to say what a gleamin set of blokes they are! Although why exactly they dropped into Basra airbase when we already had it sorted is beyond me!!! either way if i was american id be gettin my arse into the 101st
I've talked to some of those 'blokes' who dropped into Basra, and they were wondering the same thing. All I can figure is that that great oxymoron 'Military Intelligence' was doing it's thing...
the only thing i can imagine it was , is something to do with a 60th aniversary of when they were first brought together in 1943?? i may be wrong but ...?? im back off for my third tour of that place, ive been there more times than i have on holiday on the last 5 years
You said Basra, so I thought you meant Iraq. They did do a 60th anniversary jump, but it was at Normandy. (Major Winters was there, 506 Easy Co., but he didn't jump because he'd lost a leg due to diabetes [I think]). I think I heard from some of them while I was at Campbell that some of the deployed G.I.s did an anniversary jump, too. Of course, it would have had to been in their AO. Thanks for your service.
Awesome video. God Bless All our Men and Women that serve our great country. Nobody can ever thank you enough. My father was in the 101 airborne also. Again thank you so much for the work you do!!!!!!! Come home safe..........
They are 'borne' to the LZ by 'air', be it by helicopter or plane. It makes no difference if they get to the ground by hard landing, rappelling, or under a shroud, they were still 'airborne' to the LZ... Why is there all this discussion over such trivialities?
This is a great video. My boyfriend is in it. I didn't even know him when this was made. He showed it to me after I met him. Anyone who is in the military is awesome. Thanks for everything you do.

One thing that may have a more positive affect on the individual contemplating joining the army would be to jump right into college right after HS. Rarely do employers look any more favorably on veterans than the general public when choosing candidates for employment in positions that require a higher than average salary. Sad but true.
well it depends, if you wanna have a government job, or policj or one of the federal agencies, then military service is looked highly upon. same for if your a heli pilot and wanna design helis, but suppose you wanna be a lawyer, or a ceo type job it wont help.

Saddly in the mid to late 70's they were turned into an Airassault Division and they took away there wings. Airassault school is basically a useless two week program that doesnt even teach you the essentials of SPIES and FRIES. However the 101st has such a distinguished history serving in combat as an Airborne unit that they kept the Airborne tab. Which today the standards of the 101st are still extremely high because they have a reputation to uphold.

Thanks you to all men and women in uniforms. You guys walk into hell with resolve and courage to put out those extreme crazy bitches. Angels of God be with you in these danger days. Godspeed and come home soon.
hang in there guys america never stops moving forward and you all are a key reason why she does people that have your strength are the true emperors we'd never know what to do without you
My Friends, as great as this video is, and as much as I wish I could take credit for it, I can't. I got it from an E-7 and an E-8 from the 101st while I was at Fort Bragg. (I know it's the home of the 82nd, hooahh!) Check out 'afganranger', who, it would seem, actually made it. WAY TO GO, AFGANRANGER!! HOOOAAHHHH!!!!
