Best comics in the history of man. There is nothing better than good clean comedy. Just like our country's principles were founded on Christ like kindness towards one another despite our differences.
Grazie amici. TOTY BOTTALLA.
Timeless .. gone but never ever forgotten.. my grandfather loved them, my father loved them, I love them and my kids love them... god bless the best comedy duo the world has, and ever will see
When I was Born in 1969 they both had already left this world. But I feel all the time that they are still living with us. Their Films, their kind of humor are unreachable for all time. I wish I was born a few years earlier just to spend some Time with those two geniuses on the same world. I think you know what I mean..
By any standard the best comedy duo ever to grace our screens! Often copied, emulated with respect and empathy, but never too be matched. Thankyou Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy... a belly full of laughs from childhood well into adult hood and beyond.... Priceless, Timeless and always loved x
Thanks for the download--what fascinating history!!! To actually hear Stan Laurel speaking about his show business experiences and his time with Oliver (Babe) Hardy. It was so sweet to hear him continue to correcting himself as he remembered that Oliver had just died.
I was about to remark about the guy doing this interview when I noticed an earlier comment basically on similar lines. The guy was totally patronising and liked the sound of his own voice. In a lot of stuff I have seen with Laurel and Hardy, in interviews during that 1950's period, including things like This is Your Life, they seem to have been regarded as a couple of dumbos to be patronised.
@Nojnotpu OMG! I know! "This is Your Life" is horrible because they laugh when bringing up something sad in the star's life and the star begins to cry. The 50s were weird like that.
"i am with Grandma "Doof" and "Judas Iskariot" someone from a knowing from me, dead this year, is in him, "Dick", and I believe, he is is menthor, his, in him be..."
Blimey! I thought the interviewer wasn't going to let him speak. Stan Laurel was born in Lancashire, England. You can hear a lot of it in his accent. But he sounds a bit North East (UK) at times too. Maybe it's the mixture.
After Stan Laurel's funeral Buster Keaton was heard to say to Andy Clyde, "Stan was the greatest. Even greater than Chaplin. Charlie was second. And don't let anyone fool you about that!"
can so tell hes down,so lost just lost hes best mate and acting partner over 30yrs,live nxt town where stan born in cumbria,every1 loved them, nice to listen to him chatting her,
my daughter of 2 years 8 months sat and watched one of their movies and enjoyed and laughed. I have always been a fan of these 2 boys and its nice if only once my daughter shared this with me. I happened to pull out a video of laurel and hardy while my daughter was out and she queired what I was watching when she came home.
I have 2 sons, aged 26 & 21, a couple of years ago I sat down to watch Hog Wild on the t.v, the lads said what's this crap, it ancient & black & white, 5 mins later the 3 of us were in stitches at the antics of a great pair of comic geniuses, my eldest son has the box set, & watches a few dvd's on a regular basis, my youngest son wanted to take them to Afghan on his tour as he felt these two fine men, Laurel & Hardy would certainly have raised the morale of his battalion, their humour lives on
Stan attended school in a small town called Bishop Auckland in England. Its literally only 5 miles away from where i live. Apparently Laurel said he never fully got over the death of Hardy, they were like brothers.
Stan here sounds like a man who new his time had passed and had lost a dear friend. What a modest and sincere gentleman. What a great comedian and writer. Old school...RIP.
I'm glad I've found this video as I could see how sound and strong of a character was our dear Stan and at the same the most kind, but this was such a terrible interviewer that I couldn't even finish it.
He was a man of such great humour, tempered with tragedy, right to the end. I wish I had met him . He seems such a kind and unassuming man, him and his fine friend, Babe, who he loved so much.
@GeorgeVreelandHill So you're the legendary George Vreeland Hilll!!! wow, this is most interesting. you have been everywhere, and yet no where. I long to find out the true George Vreeland Hill.
He died on 23 February 1965, aged 74, several days after suffering a heart attack.[7] Just minutes away from death, Laurel told his nurse he would not mind going skiing right at that very moment. Somewhat taken aback, the nurse replied that she was not aware that he was a skier. "I'm not," said Laurel, "I'd rather be doing that than have all these needles stuck into me!" A few minutes later the nurse looked in on him again and found that he had died quietly...
They're with the Father in Heaven now. The flesh may not last long, but the spirit lasts forever. They are still alive, just not in a flesh body now. [Ecclesiastes 12:6-7] Quoting from Dr. McCoy in Star Trek II The Wrath of Kahn, they're really not dead, as long as we remember them. God bless.
The DVD box set .... Treasure...the greatest and highest art form. Laurel & Hardy the best of the best... Crazy that they did this at the begining of what was a new technology. Genius.
The world is a different place now .Nobody could possibly hope to capture what they had .New genius will come from people who keep trying .Don't give up
Stan Laurel was the BEST. When I was 13 years old, I wrote a letter to him, simply put: "Stan Laurel, Hollywood California." He wrote me a personal letter (typed it actually), signed it and personally signed a picture to me. The letter was sweet and heartfelt. I still have it. They were true gentlemen, funny in a way that today is sadly, lost.

these 2 greats are well before my time but i was a kid i the 70s watching all the replays on a saturday morning in england these 2 are up there with the greats the likes of chaplin and the marks brothers and so on ...never tier of there movies even 35 years on .....
had the honor of visiting Stan Laurel's Apartment in Malibu, CA. My father sent him a card and it was such a wonderful honor to visit him. He was so polite and liked it when how thanked him for making me laugh.
Its pretty amazing to hear them talk about these other comedy teams at the beginning - teams that I and probably most people today haven't ever even heard of. Just goes to show you how extraordinary the longevity of their popularity is, and how extraordinary their material must have been to be this popular for this long.
I wish our entertainment industry could still be this great! I'm only 16 and I have many fond memories of watching old Laurel and Hardy, and W.C. Fields movies with my dad (who grew up with it). Those are the best memories I have and I have great old comedy like this to thank
I remember some years ago ! BBC2 played many of their movies during the day ! I loved having the day off , closing the living room curtains , with a duvet over me on the couch , lay there all day and watch these funny men ! I miss them being on the telly. bring them back on please BBC.
I have just finsihed listening to all of this interview, which includes Stan's favourite L+H films, which he lists off the top of his head:
"Fra Diavolo", "Bonnie Scotland", "Babes in Toyland" and "The Bohemain Girl". I was a bit surprised as (in my opinion) he selects the ones with flash and no class if you know what I mean.
@raulox71 You got it mate. I was a young un' myself when I first had seen sme of their comedy shorts, and now at 45 I'm still a big fan. I remember when they were on Saturday afternoon showcases on UHF TV and some of the New York stations back in the mid 70's. If I remember right, WPIX 11 was one of those stations..
I hope they're waiting for me at the Pearly Gates, along with Moe, Larry and Curly, and Spanky McFarland and the other Little Rascals.
I grew up watching Laurel and Hardy on the BBC. They were simply wonderful and to this day, I remain a devoted fan. It is and always will be an honour to watch them.
Thankyou Stan and Ollie for enriching my life and may you both rest in peace, now and always, Amen.
they set the mark for comedy duo's. no one can match them. only crew that can make three 2 reelers in one day. . . .fish. . ice. . and piano . .beautiful
Thanks for posting this. You have brought them into Y2K.. And by todays standards, they were up there on top... The funniest comedy team up ever. Purest form of comedy. God rest them both. Best Regards..Alan
I spoke to an American colleague the other day. He's 30 years old, and has never heard of Laurel and Hardy. I then mentioned John Wayne, and he said he thought he had heard that name before.
That's beyond an embarrassment. He should literally be ashamed. I'd describe it as being "culturally illiterate." John Wayne and Laurel and Hardy are more than mere dismissible dated entertainment. They were a defining force of the arts which were so powerful, they had an impact spidering outwards into all corners of American and western civilization which continues today. To be so wholly disinterested in one's national background, personal taste be damned, I find one unfit to live.
Just be careful to not inject meaning into it that I haven't said. That doesn't mean I wish death or harm on such people. A life that lives only for itself in "the now" that is self-absorbed and doesn't care about history, ergo people in the past (or future), are little more than a meaningless parasite on his fellow man.
"The man who regards his own life and that of his fellow creatures as meaningless is not merely unfortunate but almost disqualified for life."
makes me emotional to think that these guys are gone and that my grandchildren will never be able to understand what a pair of genius's they were, wish i could have met them both ! god bless them...
I have nothing but the greatest respect for the both of them, they have made me laugh for years, I have recently started to watch their films again and they still crack me up.
The pair of them are one of the greatest comedy duos ever, their films were made over 50 years ago but I love them just as much as all these modern films with advanced technology and effects.
After Ollie died, Stan continued writing material for them both even though he knew it would never be performed. It must have been heartbreaking for him to write with Ollie on his mind but he did it anyway. It's funny how we sometimes deal with the death of someone we are close to.
@gamewizard - I know this comment was made over a year ago, But maybe instead of it breaking his heart, it made him happy to do it, maybe he felt that somehow he was still here if he wrote material for them both still, it probably gave him some comfort instead of it breaking his heart.
This was a great interview with a GREAT ACTOR, Comedian, gentleman, If you want to know Mr. Stan Laurel, you will listen to this interview. It was given one week after Mr. Oliver Hardy's death. REST IN PEACE MR LAUREL AND MR HARDY. Thanks for the memories...
older years, if memory serves me correctly. In their final home movie footage from 1956, it seems Stan is getting around somewhat slower, and has a somewhat apathetic look overall.
the two guys are by far the best ever comedy duo that ever lived the things that they invented in comedy was next to none compared to the shit that is on tv today i only wish in my hart that they was around today and i could have seen then.
plus how many people have noticed this if a picture or a statue is around a house or shop i bet you a dollar that any generation will say look that's

I loved em as a kid and I still love em, I always will. They were true masters of comedy. Long live the memory of Laurel and Hardy.

For me Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are the best humor couple of all time. There is never gonna be another like Laurel & Hardy.
I am 38 years old and I remember when I saw they for the very first time on TV when I was 5. I cried of laughing everytime I saw a movie of them.
R.I.P. Stan & Ollie. I never forget you.
raulox71 1 year ago 6
@raulox71 You got it mate. I was a young un' myself when I first had seen sme of their comedy shorts, and now at 45 I'm still a big fan. I remember when they were on Saturday afternoon showcases on UHF TV and some of the New York stations back in the mid 70's. If I remember right, WPIX 11 was one of those stations..
I hope they're waiting for me at the Pearly Gates, along with Moe, Larry and Curly, and Spanky McFarland and the other Little Rascals.

Anyone else reckon Stan developed a bit of an American twang to his accent? :)

I grew up watching Laurel and Hardy on the BBC. They were simply wonderful and to this day, I remain a devoted fan. It is and always will be an honour to watch them.
Thankyou Stan and Ollie for enriching my life and may you both rest in peace, now and always, Amen.

Stan Laurel was so upset after the death of his friend. He never got over it.

What a difference 53 years have made to attitudes, and none of it for the better.

@TheJediCharles I agreed with you wholeheartedly until your last statement.

I think a Laurel & Hardy biographical film is long overdue. I vote for Ewan MacGregor to play Stanley and Johnny Depp to play Ollie.

I was wondering, has Stan drank something before this interview?

I believe he suffered a stroke in his
older years, if memory serves me correctly.
