My dad used to own baby raccoons and he loves the creatures to this day, he too played with them like this because, seeing as how they're so young and one day will need to be released into the wild, they need to learn how to react to certain things. @LyeLye It doesnt matter if its a pet store fish or one from the sea. Its just the chemicals inside them. Raw fish is toxic to Raccoons. eating it long term can harm the Raccoon. If you do want to feed it fish best to cook it first it burns most of the toxins up but the chemical which increases aggression will stay the same so even if you cook fish, feeding it long term can still make the Raccoon more aggressive.

They do appear to be a bit rough with the coon but roughhousing is natural in the wild as play.

Its a good sorce of iron you know, heck people eat fish all the time, and !gasp! they sell them just for this purpose, if you are going to yell at anyone go yell at the pet store for selling gold fish as bait. By the way, i used to take the gold fish and stab them with a tooth pick to feed my turtle, i guess im cruel to.

But the way i see it, it would have been abuse to the turtle if i had of let him starve. Get a snake that eats rodents then you can tell me what is abuse and what is keeping a pet alive once you have learned to love something unconditionally for what it eats.

the way there playing with the racoon is fine. since it is a baby and there playing with his mouth so he learns not to bite them when he gets older. you do the same with german shepherds. you always play with there food when there babys and always still your hand in the bowl when there eating so they know not to bite you. a couple times they will bite so a whack will help.

Like I said be for, if you do not own a Raccoon then you do not know their behavior. So you shouldn't be on here screaming at the girls for playing with the Raccoon. As for fish...its just a fish, pet shops sells them as food like "firebirdnewt" said. There is one little problem though, even though wild raccoons eat fish, fish are actually toxic to the raccoon. so if the owners do read these posts I suggest staying away from raw fish. Fish also increase a raccoons aggression.

@LyeLye It doesnt matter if its a pet store fish or one from the sea. Its just the chemicals inside them. Raw fish is toxic to Raccoons. eating it long term can harm the Raccoon. If you do want to feed it fish best to cook it first it burns most of the toxins up but the chemical which increases aggression will stay the same so even if you cook fish, feeding it long term can still make the Raccoon more aggressive.
