  • george reeves will always have an special place in my heart. he will always be number 1 to me :D

  • even tho, kirk alyn was the first superman, george reeves had really put on an show. he was KING OF SUPERMAN.

    :D

everybody looked up to him, he was my idol, don't hide it , you gotta admit you tried, to fly around with your own special cape you used, to be superman. i couldn't call it pretend, it was real. always be apart of my childhood :)

  • george reeves known what people, his fan's,wanted to see. he said he wanted those darn walls to pop out, when he makes an landing for it, as superman. boy did he love those damn walls. sure enough it worked,it passed off :D

  • George Reeves (January 5, 1914[1] – June 16, 1959) was an American actor best known for his role as Superman in the 1950s television program Adventures of Superman.

His death at age 45 from a gunshot remains a polarizing issue. The official finding was suicide, but some believe he was murdered or the victim of an accidental shooting

    52 years ago today

  • 10 out of 10 for George Reeves.

  • Thank you for posting this. Yes, I remember Kirk Allyn playing the part, but George Reeves was the "Real Deal". I was only 7 years old and I believed a man could fly. I'm 63 now, but I've never forgotten those words "Truth, Justice and the American Way". It's a shame we're not allowed to teach those words and values in school. Superman, I hope you've found peace at last.

  • @rickd248 good explaination :) iagree.

  • actually, the first superman actor was kirk allyn who is hardly remembered today.

  • George Reeves was and still is a tribute all right.

but kirk alyn was the first to play superman.

    and that is a fact.

  • This was Superman with charisma!

    All the Best!

  • @ 1:17 Look at that picture. Ben Affleck was a good choice to play George Reeves.

  • The only superman for me. Thanks.

  • Great job! Wonderful to see the clips in color. This show was quite popular in Australia in the 60s but we didn't get color tv until 1975 (The government chose to wait to see if PAL was better than NTSC) and so seeing these color clips is a real treat for me. also, Geoerge Reeves did a splendid job as Superman. It's a pity that his life was cut short so tragically.

  • Kannon9 is right

  • It was VERY ironic that, playing a character who's faster than a speeding bullet, it was the aforementioned that ended hiis life on the night of 15-16 June 1959.

A SUPERHERO on earth... A Superhero in heaven! We'll MISS YOU DEARLY George. The same apples to his only true succesor, Christopher Reeve (NO relation). I fear for the worst for Tom Welling and Brandon Routh that they might also face the "Curse

  • Now this is A REAL TRIBUTE!!!!!

not like that oh george crap.

    GREAT JOB

  • cool. if this had been all black and white footage it would have seemed more timeless. still this was a nice tribute to a wonderful hero to us all.

  • I enjoed the other performers who

    played "Superman"..Including Mr.Reeves

    George!

  • George Reeves will always be the only "REAL"

    SUPERMAN.

  • great ceasers ghost, great reevers ghost

  • george reeves was the greatest superman....

  • we loved Soop.......Great series

  • George Reeves Was the Second Superman. The First was Kirk Allyn.

  • Yeah, Kirk Allyn was indeed the first. But George was the best tv Superman.

  • Actually, the first Superman was "Clayton" Bud Collier on both the radio show and the cartoons from the 1940s. There was also an actor named Ray Middleton who played him at the New York World's Fair im 1939.

  • Nearly every little boy in the early 50's absolutely loved George Reeves as Superman. He was a hero to each of them. RIP George.

  • I can verify that. I was one of those kids. George Reeves will ALWAYS be the real Man of Steel!

  • George Reeves is my Superman

I too was one of those kids.

I was the terror of my mother's towels. They all seemed to get a big S drawn on them in preperation of flights around the back yard.

  • What a hoot. I used one of my sisters' scarves, used to roll up newspapers and bend them, making the same noise as in the show when Superman would "bend steel in his bare hands." As for flying, I had a rope tied in a big tree, could be Tarzan, could be Superman, depending. Too bad the kids today don't have such a cleancut, good living hero. I don't think George ever really appreciated what role model he was for all of us who just loved him

  • I had a big willow tree in my backyard as a kid. Just about lived in that tree....(-;

I don't think George ever realized his influence either.

National Comics had exercised it's option on George's and the rest of the casts contracts for 26 more episodes of The Adventures of Superman. Plus there was a script for a full length movie. George had directed four of the last seasons episodes and would of directed even more episodes if he had lived.

  • I just don't think he really knew but don't trust Hollywoodland the movie it is inaccurate. He was going to be doing more Superman shows and more producing he wasn't unhappy (maybe with Lenore) at the time of his death. If only they had foresnics then his death was a murder not a sucide. I will remember him with great love and admiration until I die.5 star tribute!!!

  • This version of Superman was way before my time, but I caught it on reruns, and somehow, it became my favorite version.

  • Nice job. Was that professionally put together by AOL, or did you put it together, Chris?
