I worked at petsmart and never had any problems. We had this manager named frank he was awsome. I would go in the break room and go play with one of the rabbits. Only thing was the betas they had small cups. But then we got this mean new guy with a funky eye and he fired me.
If animals were dying at the stores you worked at then YOU weren't doing your job right. The animals need to be taken care of by the employees and they will get sick and or die if they don't. I've worked at two different Pet Smart stores and things were NEVER as bad as you're showing them.
And that announcement about being the family vet is from Bainfield the actual veterinary hospital not Pet Smart the store.
And way to try and prevent animals from finding good homes.
these are just more reasons for people to buy animals there. They want to save the little animals life. THank you for this video . Now people will buy from petsmart.
Peta is rediculus are you a vet? look up beta fish before you comment on them. ok they stop selling them then what what happens to them you are crazy do you no how many babies they have at one time ? you think there going to stop breeding just because stores arent selling them cmon be realistic.
I work at pet smart they keep them in the sick room so that the other animals-rodents dont get sick do you know how hard it is to keep tiny pets alive no matter where you get them? And they keep the ones that have died in freezer untill they are picked up and taken care of properly or would you rather they throw them in the garbage to rott? i mean really what do you want them to do with them? Where i work the birds are in the center of th building theres no draft.
The person who worked undercover for Peta did do something about it. This young woman was strong enough and cared enough about the animals to expose the way animals are treated in Pet Smart. Do you understand?
If petsmart was so bad, and you worked there, why the hell didn't you do something about it? I mean you're not playing vet, your playing pet care specialist, and getting paid for. Its a requirement of the job to give the sick animals their meds.
I've seen the Beta fish in tiny bags with just enough water to survive. It's sad to see and I'm certain that it's terrible for the Beta. What exactly is it that bird's want? Maybe to fly and feel free? What does petsmart do? Cage them & put a price tag on them! How humane is that?
I applaude the person working for Peta.
How many of you petsmart employed folks eat animals for breakfast lunch and dinner?
lol the funny thing is peta isnt as good as they seem.... like the instance they let animales free out of a testing facility where none were gona be killed or hurt they let the animales free... peta didnt study there highway maps becaus alot of those animales were hit by cars whos fault is that petas and this video is dumb and wrong mabey the animales died becaus you dont know how to take care of them the one i work at we have never had a dead bird hamster or rodent dead.. ever
You don't have your facts straight. Peta has never released an animal from a testing facility or a lab of any sort. You are talking about THE ALF. Get your facts straight and while you are at it learn how to spell. After reading your response it is clear that Pet Smart is hiring idiots!
Bettas do get shiped in tiny bags but at the most they only stay in them for a day at max. Believe it or not the tiny bag is a relief in comparisson to its natural environment. The birds wouldn't be able to survive if we let them fly free. Their to domesticated to survive on their on.
"Animals are often hidden in the back to hide the truth"? It's called a quiet room, where I have personally ALWAYS seem our Pet Care associates doing all they can to help the animals get better. This video is a narrow-minding scope of only a few stores at best, and is a pick-and-paste collection of the footage and views that PETA wants you to see. These people take bits and pieces and combine them into a way that suits their own campaign. Boycott Petsmart? Boycott PETA.
The only reason petsmart and petco get picked on is because they are large chain stores in the public eye. Sometimes, yeah, animals get sick and die. But keep in mind that this chick is promoting peta. Don't rush to praise your local small pet shops because if you think this is terrible go behing the scenes at small pet stores. Petco and petsmart are saints compared to most small shops.
this is all stupid. if pet smart is getting closed down....then why are they opening 500+ stores this year....i work at petsmart...i am a pet care specialist as well..and yeah...animals die...we cannot keep them all alive...but we do everything in "our" power to keep these animals alive....and spaws83 proves it becuase we do spend a lot of money on vet services...so dont believe this! petsmart is the only pet retailer that actually cares about the pet, and the only pace where pets are FAMILY!
I am a pet care manager here in Canada for Petsmart . . . I have personally spent literally thousands of dollars ( and this is not exaggerated in the least) on vet bills to ensure the health of my animals in my store. I can only speak for my self and the store that I work at, but after 2 1/2 years working there I have never had conditions as shown in your video.
PetSmart was infact actually closed down and in the papers for animal cruelty. It is fact not fiction. As I am sure it happens at other petshops too. Ever seen hamsters in the heat behind glass doors panting away? I have.
Oh one more thing i love animals and care for them all and it is sad when an animal dies but if petsmart was this cruel i would not have been associated with it in the first place so girl check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Honest truth i bet she got fired because of her poor conduct is what i think and then she probably in revenge came up with this terrible immature and ridiculous attack on petsmart.
What FEW dead fish we have (because, lets face its... over 1700 gallons of water, there will be SOME) are removed ASAP. Hell, even our crickets are fed oranges, potatoes, and lettuce. Also, our Bettas come in cups plenty large enough for them to swim in. If you really want to investigate pet store cruelty, pick on the private stores with puppy mills. Shit, Petsmart doesn't even sell FEEDER MICE because we think its mean.
These pictures of sick and "dying" hamsters, are no more than what your average hamster with diarrhea looks like, as mentioned before...it is VERY common...especially for younger hamsters. All our animals recieve fresh food and water twice daily, cage wipe downs daily, 100% bedding changes and deep scrubs weekly, fresh fruits and vegetables every morning (which are removed exactly 4 hours later to prevent spoilage). Fish are fed THREE times a day to make sure everyone gets some.
As for bird "respiratory infections", I personally have never seen or heard of this happening. In fact, as even visible in the movie, our birds are kept in GLASS aviaries to PREVENT colds and sicknesses. The one image of an actual bird CAGE that is in the clip, is from our "new arrivals" room where new animals are kept when first arriving to avoid trauma and stress... it is constantly kept very calm back there and at a 75 degree temperature.
Furthermore, "wet tail" is a common occurance that just about any hamster breeder or seller has had to deal with, its not unlike many infantile sicknesses that humans get... in that its nearly unavoidable at some point in their early lives... and we, rather professionally and humanely I might add, treat every one of them, orally, all day, everyday. Rarely do any of them NOT make it.
As a current Petsmart employee, who has seen the front floor and backrooms, and refrigerators of several stores, I can tell you this is greatly exagerated. Yes, all rodents become cannibalistic, its nature..we don't leave them in there to be eaten like this lady does while recording. and the "sick room" is indeed real..but most animals return back to the floor perfectly healthy (of the one or two that are ever back there at any given time).
Lets face it, she had nothing to do but run her mouth about something she knew nothing about... she needs to be spending her time solving world hunger or something lol.I bet her own animals are treated like crap thats how thats what hypocritical people are!
Get a grip on reality...make a video of the pet stores at the mall, or several other petsmarts before making your lil videos. Ignorance must be bliss for you. I know these things go on, but personally, my store never had this problem and you should not just point the finger at Petsmart as a whole.
I realize that there are places like the one in your video, but do not be so narrow minded as to think that every PetSmart store does these things...I have worked in one for over 5 years now and guess what...Our animals NEVER look that grotesque!
Oh and i forgot at our petsmart our bettas come in cups which are sealed with a lid along with holes and we dont say that we are doctors...seems like your petsmart is the crock. but do refer to tigeronfire717 another honest truth.
Ok everybody ready...first off this girl has already pissed me the hell off. I have worked at petsmart because i DO LOVE animals... MY department never had this issue as huge as you call out ALL petsmarts to be, its who is hired and has the experience to know how to care for animals. All petsmarts are different bc the associates in each petsmart are different...just bc one associate does one thing doesnt mean we all do it.
i dont know what store you went to or what store you worked at but i work at one and NOTHING like this ever happend in my dept.your the one who let these conditions slide by so who's fault is it really? thats the reason why a company hires employies So next time you feel the need to tell the world how some one else is doing such a horrible job maybe u should leave out that u were a part of the problem!
Like I said; next time anyone wants a furry little friend ADOPT from your local shelter/rescue, they will get a GOOD vet to check them before adoption.
Also I bought my first guinea pig from a petco, she only lasted a few weeks because they sold her to me sick. Why didn't I take her to the vet? because guinea pigs hide sickness really well. Then my fried made the same mistake, hers died the day after. She went back, they offered her another, it died three days later.
Breeders provide good habitats?!? Oh please, give me a break. If they would provide good habitats they animals would not get sick from all of the poo & pee in their tiny little cages.
not all things servive and that the truth. If petsmart didnt sell animals many people would not have a pet. sure it's bad for some animals but many find greate homes with a family. if major pet store dint sell animals then who would it would be much harder to fing good pets.
This is horrible. Everyone saying "I work at a petstore, this isin't true" needs to shut up. They die because pet stores support breeders; horrible people who breed animals over and over until they die just to get money. Breeders keep their animals in horrible conditions and that is why they are brought in sick/pregnant. next time someone wants a pet ADOPT from your local animal shelter.
thats not realy true breeders provide good habitats. they give animals high calcium diets. and they dont make them breed, most mice breeders put 4 female mice with one male mouse they breed freely. they also get fed normal food thats made for mice.
This video does not bring PetSmart down but only PETA. All it is doing is showing bias, "propoganda". If you truly worked there for 21 weeks you would've seen the thick binders for our policies and procedures and than there are an even thicker binder for the pet care manager. PETA, if you're really out to help the animals, show people the bad things that happen "behind closed doors" but also emphasize that those bad things only happen 5% of the time, show the good things that also happen.
When animals are sick they are sent to the vet, we are given medication and we treat them as throughly as possible, 90% more than pet parents would. Many times, especially with birds the costs for vet care are huge. To just have 1 $8 hamster sent to the vet, just to be looked at costs at least $60, than on top of that up to $80 for medication. PetSmart is doing a lot better than many pet stores out there, if not being a leader for pet care itself.
I work at PetSmart, a lead in pet care for 3 years now. "Hundreds of animals die" true, if you count the fish that are lost. "What actually goes on behind closed doors" happens for the benefit of the children. PetSmart, Petco, etc. all are there to help the customer get into the joys of having a pet. When a hamster dies it is properly put into the fridge awaiting the proper discarding via a vet.
still.. it might not be happening in UR petsmart.. but crap like this does happen!! dont deny it.. and sick animals shouldnt just be put in the back to die.. they need to be cared for!! and another thing.. to prvent wettail mix dry oatmeal in there food!
This shit is suuuuch bullshit. We take good care of every animal. Why don't you go after pet stores that sell sick puppies and kittens? Or disgusting pet stores that keep all animals living in horrific conditions? PETAKILLSANIMAlS look at that. I used to be a big PETA supporter and everything, but hell the propaganda goes too far. I'm out.
OMG FUCK PETA. We put the sick animals in the back because why the fuck would we want the other animals to get sick? Why would we want customers to see a dead or sick animal? I work at PetSmart.
Okay, this is exaggerated. I worked at PetSmart as a Lead Pet Care Specialist. First off, yes, some animals came in sick. The shipping process is stressful. We sent hamsters and other small animals to the VET, at a cost that was WAY beyond what they were going to sell for. The animals in the back were returned from the vet with medicines and instructions for 1 week before going out on the sale floor. I took my job VERY seriously. Our bettas didn't come in little bags, either.
I worked at PetSmart for 2 years and was a Lead Pet Care Specialist. You show "overcrowded" tanks... if that weren't just the feeder tank I might have taken you a little more seriously. That is most likely on a fish order day, during the summer season when sales are increased. The other bags of fish, again in shipping bags. Stop over exagerating so that you have a story. By the way, cannibalism happens in nature too., can't expect them to stop just because they aren't wild.
xDD PETA, hilarious, not for the poor animals of course, but the stupidity of the Hippocratic ppl who actually work for the corrupted system. Shame there isn't any better one that's big :/
That message that you mention "where pets are family, we're the family doctor" is actually Banfield's Pet Hospital's commercial, not Petsmarts. Hamsters get wet tail. It happens. They normally get it because of stress. When they do get it, at least at my store we do the best to help them in their recovery.
This is a whole lot of BS. I am a Pet Care Specialist and I've never seen any of this. The public knows about the back room or sick room, it's not a "secret." That's where we take all of the animals that get sick on the floor and help them in their recovery. We do not serve as vets and we do not give medical advice, our qualified pets at Banfield examine every animal and we simply give the animals their medications as if we were their owners.
I work at PetsMart. This is bullshit. Pet specialist do not equal vets. They take care of the animals. That's why Banfield is in the store and take care of the animals when they are sick. The sick room is filled with animals that ppl didn't want and have to be quaratined for a week. Go to petakillsanimals and see the real truth. Peta kills more fucking animals than a fucking hunter.
My parent's took thier beagle to thier vet because her paw was swollen she seemed ok except her paw. The next day my mother picked her up and on of the vets gave her a shot and my mom heard her say ohhhh I should'nt have done that. They had to carry the dog to the car. She died before they got her home. My parents no longer take thier dogs to petsmart. They go to a licensed Vet. Be Careful if your pet needs medical attention..........DO NOT GO TO PETSMART!!!!!
U worked at petsmart as a pet care manager for over 3 years. Many many many dead animals. We had a meat freezer. They crowd the animals untill they stress and die
It was this person's responsiblity 2 take care of these animals, obviously she wasn't doin her job. PM puts animal in2 a "sick room" 2 treat 'em n avoid infectin other animals. It is the petcare assosciates duties 2 clean animal cages, 2 clean water dishes twice daily n provide fresh veggies. If these animals R taken care of by good associates, they end up in good homes. Also, PM adopts out more than a 1000 dogs n cats a yr unlike PETA who ends up puttin down more than half of their animals.
Im not a big animal lover or at least big enough to join peta cause i like to eat meat but this stuff propably does happen at some pet smarts ,all people like us can do is just buy the animals and give them good care are do our best to work there as a specialist to make sure they get good care, but I must say why arent people this enthusiastic about saving children in africa, and other third world countries where children die every day cause they cant get any good water or food.
yea uh just because one petsmart is bad doesnt mean they all are petsmart doesnt even sell "feeder" mice, but at petco(where i work) we do, but we take the best care possible of our animals, we try our best but u have a few deaths i really dont apprciate this video. help an endangered species or sumthin.
I work for Banfield- the pet hospital inside of most Petsmart stores. We have the only freezer that keeps the dead animals and trust me when I say that we usually never use it for any petsmart rodent or birds. If the store has a sick animal they bring it to us, we treat it, then it goes into quarantine until it is better. PETA is too extreme.
I work at Petsmart in FL. And these animals probably were found somewhere that WASNT Petsmart! Our animals are cared for by some of the best staff members available and I'm sure I speak for all Petsmart employees when I say that! If you did research on hamsters you would know that sometimes they do eat each other. It might not be appealing to us but it's just something that they do! Get your priorities straight!
i also thought of somehting else too....the recording shes talking about We're the family doctor".....um just so you all know, thats Banfields recording, which is our vet office located in almost ALL petsmart stores.....we work as partners together....
oh and for the record, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to administer meds to an animal.....a 5 year old could do it...you dont have to be a vet to give medicine, nor does it make someone a vet..... i hope this prissy little girl ( for lack of a better word i cant say on here) got a sick ass law suit for slander
and the golfish shown are feeders....theyre not bred for quality, therefore dont have a long lifespan anyway, although its possible to raise one up....the bettas, well, those are naturally found in puddles in asia....theyre used to sm amounts of water... i think they need to do a little more research on theyre crap, and maybe focus on bigger problems in the world with animals....
Actually, maybe you should do a bit of research. Betta fish are NOT found in puddles in Asia. They live in rice paddies that are flooded in the rainy season and slowly dry up. Bettas have adapted to survive in shallow water, but will not thrive in a cup. Just because a betta can live in horrific conditions doesn't mean it should have to. A person can live their whole life locked in a closet, but should they?
abotu the fedder fish its bad to treat those bad cause when they live in bad conditions then someone buys them and feeds them to bigger fish and then the bigger fish gets sick,so they should really take more care in keeping the feeders healthy
You shouldn't be feeding pet fish more feeder fish to begin with. A pet fishes diet needs to be 10% live fish. Now you can just feed them freeze dried.
you got me all wrong I dont like to feed my oscars live fish(I just feed them flake food) Im just jaying that for people who do feed them live fish, cause I think its just wrong but I do feed them insects like the flies that come in the house, is that good or bad for the fish?
It really depends. I mean, if it was my fish, I wouldn't. Only because I don't know where the insects have been. The insects could have parasites or small amounts of insectacides. Some people do buy fruit flies for this fish though.
i hate peta.this is y.I work 4 petsmart....Ya we do have animals pass away,is this not normal when u have lots of rodents being shipped in the summer(in AZ)AND winter??Anywhere, its not just large corporations...And ya,hamsters r cannibals,as are fish.Ive been wit Petsmart 4 3years,NEVER have i seen a bird wit an upper resperatory infection...and thats at 4 different petsmarts ive worked...NO we're NOT vets...thats y we takem TO vets 2 get diagnosed and perscription meds...
i hate peta.this is y.I work 4 petsmart....Ya we do have animals pass away,is this not normal when u have lots of rodents being shipped in the summer(in AZ)AND winter??Anywhere, its not just large corporations...And ya,hamsters r cannibals,as are fish.Ive been wit Petsmart 4 3years,NEVER have i seen a bird wit an upper resperatory infection...and thats at 4 different petsmarts ive worked...NO we're NOT vets...thats y we takem TO vets 2 get diagnosed and perscription meds...
How many of us have cared for a pet that has died? Did they loook pretty? Hamsters are notorius for eating dead. All rodents will, some do more than others. We all know a young child that has lost a pet. Does that make it the child's fault. I love peta, but not this stupid stuff. Go after the people that drain blood out of the brains of small animals. Or the univeristies that test how high of a pitch is needed to deafen a chinchilla.
I dont know who you are to be spreading a bad video like that around...but its sickining....i work at Petsmart...and you have no idea how hard we work to make sure that each and every animal is cared for...and yes we do give every animal that has been delivered, and returned by a Petparent a trip to the vet, threw Banfield, I have no idea where you got your images, but they did not come from petsmart...
I am a member of PETA and an employee of Petsmart. My opinion if you don't like what you see then work there and change it. At my store we rush our sick animals to the vet the minute we see something wrong. However animal testing in universities and large product companies needs to stop. Embedding a collar so deep into a dogs neck needs to stop. Small pet shops that buy there animals from breeding farms and from people that steal show dogs needs to stop.
all major chain pet shops should be closed down. Let people who care and love animals run smaller shops that achually care about the animals! This video makes me sick!
does this go on in the uk too? my guinea pigs from pets at home died at 4 months and i spent £70 in vet care!
*sigh*... whatever... the care is given to the animals by those who work there. If you work at Petsmart then give the animals good care. All it takes to get some extra funding or what have you is to voice your opinion and take an initiative.
As I along with most of the people who watch this video loves animals and care for their well being. But I work in a Petco and I know I can't speak for all of them, but the one that I worl in (Boca Raton, FL) takes very good care of our animals. Seldom do we have small animal deaths. we do have many fish deaths
, but not to the point that we can call it abuse. Now I have no idea what goes on where we get our animals, but we have vets periodically check the breeding facilities for the animals well being
. Now as for the wellness room (where the sick animals are held to get better; in my store its a small room with no windows (whick I don't really like),but it is very clean and the animals that are in there all go to the vet before.
I know MANY if not a majority of the major pet stores do do animal cruelty. its not all of them.
my teachers nephute got a hamster from petsmart his name is Max and he has or so my teacher says wet tail and he'll probley die from it because there not doing anything about it.
i totally agree with u, i've worked at both petco and petsmart as a animal spec. and yes behind the scenes in there so called wellness rooms they do mistreat there animals, and yes the freezers are stuffed with dead animals, its very sad, but what do you expect from a major cooperation, all they care about is money, so very sad.
oh bollocks, the comment was too long. Oh well. PETS AT HOME (used to be called petsmart), YOU FACTORY BREED YOUR HAMSTERS AND DON'T SEPARATE THE MALES FROM THE FEMALES! MY LOCAL PETSHOP DOGANO DOESN'T DO THAT! someone breeds the hamsters and separates the males and females from each other. DOGANO IS FAR BETTER THAN PETSMART (also known as pets at home)! I AM GLAD THAT PETA WENT UNDERCOVER IN PETS AT HOME!
O_o reminds me of the time we had a rodent infestation at my old garage. We put sticky paper with peanut butter, and my dad and i would then release them to the field not even a mile away. We only had about three die because we didn't release them in time.
I see that you only did your studies on hamsters..u said stuff about the birds, but no proof. Hamsters are probobly the animal that is most prone to disease and premature death that is at petsmart. no kidding some are gonna die. i gotta back up petsmart on this one.
all your really doing is acting like you make a difference. U know what u really need to do PETA? go to china and stop all those dirty communists from skinning animals alive. is that out of your league PETA? ive bought 2 hamsters that both live well over a year and died of natural causes, never sick one time.
This is fucking stupid. I work for PetSmart. PETA stupid fucks are just so one-sided that they want you to boycott EVERYTHING that has to do with animals that aren't in the wild. Of course animals die at PetSmart! We have about 50 small animals in our store, and one dies every few days. Animals that are sick are kept in isolation because they can get the healthy animals sick. If a five dollar rat gets sick, it goes to the vet where we spend hundreds of dollars on it.
WOW! Are u serious? Well the only thing that I don't like petsmart is when I was accused from stealing a fish tank heater! LOL I hated the manager at petsmart. But I bought my 2 chinchillas at petco and they are in PERFECT health. Plus, I buy all of my supplies at petsmart & petco. Probablt that's the only or maybe outta 2 petsmart stores do this. So why should we boycott the stores?
As a Pet Smart employee I know what goes on in these stores. 99 % of the stores are not like that. Most of those i have worked at would rather spend 500 dollars to save the life of a 10 dollar rat.
you should have reported this stuff to you DM or your RM, since your store manager didnt seem to care. Also the fridge is strictly forbidden to put animals in. Again a matter that you should have reported. By not doing this one could assume that you were letting these animals die just to better yourself.
k, i work at petsmart, and the reason we bring the animals to the back is because they need special care, and there given it in a isolated enviroment were there checked on daily. as far as them eating each other over no room is wrong, they do that when a animal is dead or dying. alot of animals will do this. though the commet fish are over crowded thats one thing i hate, but other than that all the animals are well taken care of, u may have just got a haggard petsmart
Well my petsmart is quite good for the fish. i buy some of the fish from them. I did have 2 hamsters that lived 3 years from them. And the only crowed tank is the fedder tank. The store im against to is WAlmart. They are just horroble. The ploblem is the workers and care , not the store. I once fought for a piece of driwft wood from a low idiot working in Petco,(petco has a better way for the bettas)
I also must add that although the other pet stores in the area are much more awful I have had a couple problems with the local Petsmart besides the sick guinea pig. A rat I had got from another pet store was pregnant (big surprise :p) and when I had told one of the people at Petsmart she said "Well, you could always freeze the babies. I know it sounds harsh but they won't feel it". Obviously I didn't freeze them but I was a bit shocked by the comment.
Firstly, PeTA is a cult of lunatics. People would be better off supporting better animal support groups. Secondly, my husband and I go to Petsmart often and all the rats we got there were in very good condition BUT the one guinea pig we got there had scurvy and died a week later. However, compared to the other pet stores around here Petsmart is MUCH better than them.
I happen to work at a PetSmart. While this may happen at a few stores (and I don't condone it), at the store I work at, we take very good care of our animals. Our pet care specialists are some of the most dedicated workers at our store, and our managers would not tolerate this.
There's a difference between hidden and isolated from the majority of the animals, which are healthy. I work in a petsmart, and our store is not like this. If an animal is sick, it goes to the vet. Period. This is sensationalist, because any pet store with employees who don't care enough will have losses like that, privately owned or corporate.
I've been there two years. I am still sad when an animal dies.
I work at PetSmart, and yes a lot of small animals get wet tail, but with well trained associates who are dedicated to the job, they can survive, they just need proper care. From what I saw, versus what I see everyday at work, the stores you worked at should be individually reported to the DSM because they are not meeting the P&P's by the looks of it. And another things, you should know that cell phone's are not allowed on the floor when you are on the clock working :)
I work at PetSmart and you cant treat every animal perfectly and take care of everyone to make sure they all live that would cost tons of money. This is way to biased to be truthful. Plus this is coming from PETA which means that they really want PetSmart to close down because they dont beleive that any animals should be domesticated or used by humans. They think that people are equal to animals and thats the disgusting part.
I know you are upset, but instead of bitching, how about educating yourself and others, and working more towards fixing the problem, not being part of it.
And at one point, you hold up a bag of fish. The blue water means it came from the breeder. That's not even the store's fault! Also, did you read on Betta fish? They live in puddles found in rice plains. The bagged ones are sedated from the breeder. They like smaller places to not only feel safe, but to breathe easier. Betta's need air, not just water, as they have a labyrinth; they breathe from water and air.
My God. Some people really need to educate themselves [not you in particular, but a lot of the people commenting here]
Bettas are NOT [I repeat, NOT] found in puddles. They live in rice paddies. Rice paddies are BIG. Thousands of gallons kind of big. Not small. Not 1 gallon. THOUSANDS OF GALLONS. They get flooded in the rainy season, and dry up in the dry season. Bettas have adapted to survive in these conditions.
Cont'd from my previous comment because of the 500 character limit.
HOWEVER. The rice paddies rarely end up as mere puddles, and if they did, the bettas would die. The rice paddies also have rivers/streams/some sort of flowing water running through them that ensures that the betta has a constant supply of CLEAN water. The plants growing in the water also helps contribute to the cleaning of the water. They are not forced to live in their own filth, in little cups.
They do not feel safer in small areas. In dark places, or places with tunnels/plants/etc they do. But not in little cups. Small areas do not ensure that they breathe easier. How do they breathe when the water is full of toxic ammonia?
Though, bravo on knowing about the labyrinth. Very few people do.
**BTW, I do not particularly agree with this video, just the one betta part the girl was talking about.
I've worked for both PetSmart and PetCo now, and I can tell you that things like this happen everywhere. I know its sad, but it happens. There are people who care very much for animals working at both chains, and yes, some who don't. That's why the people who DO need to do their damn job and put the camera down. Death rates are NEVER that high unless there is fowl play, idiocy, or in this case, both.
The sick animals are put in their own room not just to hide them from the public eye, but so that THE OTHER ANIMALS WON'T GET SICK! I thought that was common sense? Ridiculous. Who cares if Petsmart encourages adoptions than to sell dogs and cats, right? Nooo, when hamsters get their wet tail, a very COMMON occurrence, the petsmart's evil. As I said, RIDICULOUS.
Ok i just want to say somthing, petsmart and petco and very bad stores to shop at. I'm a reptile guy and when i go in there they call the animals the wrong thing, like they dont know what it is. You are all retarted and obviously dont care about animals suffering. I know this is true, EVERYTHING she said and showed is exactly how it is. they care about money, not pets. fuck heads
aumf25, you are nothing but a low-down dirty scumbag with obviously little else to live for. How dare you spread viscious lies about someone else, you hippocritic bitch? You worked at PetSmart hmm? Then why the FUCK didn't you help to better the store and animals? Any animal can get sick you dipshit. It's not even PetSmart's fault that they receive sick animals, it is the supplier! You and PETA are nothing but a bunch of time-wasting fools that preach bullshit.
filthy? LMAO i've owned a number of rodents, and they are everything but filthy. They groom themselves regularly like any other clean animal. diseased? Well the wild ones are, but i don't know about the kind you get from the pet store, but after everything I've heard pet stores are either very clean & innocent, or very filthy and evil XP
I too work at PetSmart and this is really funny how this girl makes things over te oridanary!! I bet she didn't even take care of them when they were in our care just so she could get the video of her dead animals!! It's very sad that this girl had enough time to videotape everything that goes wrong but while she is doing this is she even taking care of the pets?? Thats just my view on the whole thing
This is crap... plain and simple... but PETA is a crap-hatcher (look at the Mcdonalds they have vandalized with cow crap...) so this comes as no surprise... everyone should unite together and say to PETA the ACLU and all other communist organizations "In the immortal words of WOW.... /ignore"
when you sell a large number of animals or pets then you are going to get a percentage that will die that is nature it will allways happen as usal peta like to paint a bad pic .they dont tell you about them selves taking pet animals from the public and saying dont worry we will find them good homes then putting them all to sleep ? and no i dont work for any pet smart , but i hate it when peta dosnt tell the whole story ,
You're kidding me! I work at Petsmart. What is shown is that hamsters die, and they do. Hamsters have cannibalistic tendencies, if you didn't know. Also, most of the deaths are due to wet-tail (diarrhea) which all rodents are sensitive to and not all survive. I honestly do hate PETA. We care for the animals very much, take them to vets, and treat them when necessary.
Wow that looks very staged. I hate peta and I really want this girl to get punched in the face. She should start worrying about all the humans dying in the world then a hamster which actually is extinct in the wild. Dumb bitch
I work at a petsmart and none of that happens at my store. you should visit more stores before you make a judgement like that. why don't you try working at petco too?
not ALL PetSmarts are like this! i work one right now, and it's fine. we actually interact with the hamsters on a daily basis.
it all depends on the manager and store owner etc...and of course the associates.

I worked at petsmart and never had any problems. We had this manager named frank he was awsome. I would go in the break room and go play with one of the rabbits. Only thing was the betas they had small cups. But then we got this mean new guy with a funky eye and he fired me.

ZOMG rodents are dying!
Give me a break.
unitedweswim 2 years ago
If animals were dying at the stores you worked at then YOU weren't doing your job right. The animals need to be taken care of by the employees and they will get sick and or die if they don't. I've worked at two different Pet Smart stores and things were NEVER as bad as you're showing them.
And that announcement about being the family vet is from Bainfield the actual veterinary hospital not Pet Smart the store.
And way to try and prevent animals from finding good homes.
Devotchka13 3 years ago
these are just more reasons for people to buy animals there. They want to save the little animals life. THank you for this video . Now people will buy from petsmart.
lesterhotel 3 years ago

AlRocks87 4 years ago
Asshole??? Why do you want to be rude?
The person who worked undercover for Peta did do something about it. This young woman was strong enough and cared enough about the animals to expose the way animals are treated in Pet Smart. Do you understand?
bayberrys1 4 years ago
If petsmart was so bad, and you worked there, why the hell didn't you do something about it? I mean you're not playing vet, your playing pet care specialist, and getting paid for. Its a requirement of the job to give the sick animals their meds.
AlRocks87 4 years ago
I've seen the Beta fish in tiny bags with just enough water to survive. It's sad to see and I'm certain that it's terrible for the Beta. What exactly is it that bird's want? Maybe to fly and feel free? What does petsmart do? Cage them & put a price tag on them! How humane is that?
I applaude the person working for Peta.
How many of you petsmart employed folks eat animals for breakfast lunch and dinner?

I eat salad for lunch and pizza for dinner. Or I just eat candy! lol...I work at petsmart grooming in FL.

lol the funny thing is peta isnt as good as they seem.... like the instance they let animales free out of a testing facility where none were gona be killed or hurt they let the animales free... peta didnt study there highway maps becaus alot of those animales were hit by cars whos fault is that petas and this video is dumb and wrong mabey the animales died becaus you dont know how to take care of them the one i work at we have never had a dead bird hamster or rodent dead.. ever
reptile0067 4 years ago 2
You don't have your facts straight. Peta has never released an animal from a testing facility or a lab of any sort. You are talking about THE ALF. Get your facts straight and while you are at it learn how to spell. After reading your response it is clear that Pet Smart is hiring idiots!
bayberrys1 4 years ago
Bettas do get shiped in tiny bags but at the most they only stay in them for a day at max. Believe it or not the tiny bag is a relief in comparisson to its natural environment. The birds wouldn't be able to survive if we let them fly free. Their to domesticated to survive on their on.
AlRocks87 4 years ago

Petco and petsmart are saints compared to most small shops.
tabbycat05 4 years ago 2
this is all stupid. if pet smart is getting closed down....then why are they opening 500+ stores this year....i work at petsmart...i am a pet care specialist as well..and yeah...animals die...we cannot keep them all alive...but we do everything in "our" power to keep these animals alive....and spaws83 proves it becuase we do spend a lot of money on vet services...so dont believe this! petsmart is the only pet retailer that actually cares about the pet, and the only pace where pets are FAMILY!
kingman52001 4 years ago
I am a pet care manager here in Canada for Petsmart . . . I have personally spent literally thousands of dollars ( and this is not exaggerated in the least) on vet bills to ensure the health of my animals in my store. I can only speak for my self and the store that I work at, but after 2 1/2 years working there I have never had conditions as shown in your video.
spaws83 4 years ago
PetSmart was infact actually closed down and in the papers for animal cruelty. It is fact not fiction. As I am sure it happens at other petshops too. Ever seen hamsters in the heat behind glass doors panting away? I have.
classicminichelsea 4 years ago

PolishPunk04 4 years ago
These pictures of sick and "dying" hamsters, are no more than what your average hamster with diarrhea looks like, as mentioned before...it is VERY common...especially for younger hamsters. All our animals recieve fresh food and water twice daily, cage wipe downs daily, 100% bedding changes and deep scrubs weekly, fresh fruits and vegetables every morning (which are removed exactly 4 hours later to prevent spoilage). Fish are fed THREE times a day to make sure everyone gets some.
PolishPunk04 4 years ago
As for bird "respiratory infections", I personally have never seen or heard of this happening. In fact, as even visible in the movie, our birds are kept in GLASS aviaries to PREVENT colds and sicknesses. The one image of an actual bird CAGE that is in the clip, is from our "new arrivals" room where new animals are kept when first arriving to avoid trauma and stress... it is constantly kept very calm back there and at a 75 degree temperature.
PolishPunk04 4 years ago
Furthermore, "wet tail" is a common occurance that just about any hamster breeder or seller has had to deal with, its not unlike many infantile sicknesses that humans get... in that its nearly unavoidable at some point in their early lives... and we, rather professionally and humanely I might add, treat every one of them, orally, all day, everyday. Rarely do any of them NOT make it.
PolishPunk04 4 years ago
As a current Petsmart employee, who has seen the front floor and backrooms, and refrigerators of several stores, I can tell you this is greatly exagerated. Yes, all rodents become cannibalistic, its nature..we don't leave them in there to be eaten like this lady does while recording. and the "sick room" is indeed real..but most animals return back to the floor perfectly healthy (of the one or two that are ever back there at any given time).
PolishPunk04 4 years ago
Lets face it, she had nothing to do but run her mouth about something she knew nothing about... she needs to be spending her time solving world hunger or something lol.I bet her own animals are treated like crap thats how thats what hypocritical people are!

Get a grip on reality...make a video of the pet stores at the mall, or several other petsmarts before making your lil videos. Ignorance must be bliss for you. I know these things go on, but personally, my store never had this problem and you should not just point the finger at Petsmart as a whole.
preciousbutrfly 4 years ago
I realize that there are places like the one in your video, but do not be so narrow minded as to think that every PetSmart store does these things...I have worked in one for over 5 years now and guess what...Our animals NEVER look that grotesque!

Oh and i forgot at our petsmart our bettas come in cups which are sealed with a lid along with holes and we dont say that we are doctors...seems like your petsmart is the crock. but do refer to tigeronfire717 another honest truth.

Ok everybody ready...first off this girl has already pissed me the hell off. I have worked at petsmart because i DO LOVE animals... Like I said; next time anyone wants a furry little friend ADOPT from your local shelter/rescue, they will get a GOOD vet to check them before adoption.
MissCinthia 4 years ago
Also I bought my first guinea pig from a petco, she only lasted a few weeks because they sold her to me sick. Why didn't I take her to the vet? because guinea pigs hide sickness really well. Then my fried made the same mistake, hers died the day after. She went back, they offered her another, it died three days later.
MissCinthia 4 years ago
Breeders provide good habitats?!? Oh please, give me a break. If they would provide good habitats they animals would not get sick from all of the poo & pee in their tiny little cages.
MissCinthia 4 years ago
not all things servive and that the truth. If petsmart didnt sell animals many people would not have a pet. sure it's bad for some animals but many find greate homes with a family. if major pet store dint sell animals then who would it would be much harder to fing good pets.
lizardman129 4 years ago
This is horrible. Everyone saying "I work at a petstore, this isin't true" needs to shut up. They die because pet stores support breeders; horrible people who breed animals over and over until they die just to get money. Breeders keep their animals in horrible conditions and that is why they are brought in sick/pregnant. next time someone wants a pet ADOPT from your local animal shelter.
MissCinthia 4 years ago
thats not realy true breeders provide good habitats. they give animals high calcium diets. and they dont make them breed, most mice breeders put 4 female mice with one male mouse they breed freely. they also get fed normal food thats made for mice.
lizardman129 4 years ago
This video does not bring PetSmart down but only PETA. All it is doing is showing bias, "propoganda". If you truly worked there for 21 weeks you would've seen the thick binders for our policies and procedures and than there are an even thicker binder for the pet care manager. PETA, if you're really out to help the animals, show people the bad things that happen "behind closed doors" but also emphasize that those bad things only happen 5% of the time, show the good things that also happen.
bulwye1 4 years ago
When animals are sick they are sent to the vet, we are given medication and we treat them as throughly as possible, 90% more than pet parents would. Many times, especially with birds the costs for vet care are huge. To just have 1 $8 hamster sent to the vet, just to be looked at costs at least $60, than on top of that up to $80 for medication. PetSmart is doing a lot better than many pet stores out there, if not being a leader for pet care itself.
bulwye1 4 years ago
I work at PetSmart, a lead in pet care for 3 years now. "Hundreds of animals die" true, if you count the fish that are lost. "What actually goes on behind closed doors" happens for the benefit of the children. PetSmart, Petco, etc. all are there to help the customer get into the joys of having a pet. When a hamster dies it is properly put into the fridge awaiting the proper discarding via a vet.
bulwye1 4 years ago
still.. it might not be happening in UR petsmart.. but crap like this does happen!! dont deny it.. and sick animals shouldnt just be put in the back to die.. they need to be cared for!! and another thing.. to prvent wettail mix dry oatmeal in there food!
CassiOsborne17 4 years ago
This shit is suuuuch bullshit. We take good care of every animal. Why don't you go after pet stores that sell sick puppies and kittens? Or disgusting pet stores that keep all animals living in horrific conditions? PETAKILLSANIMAlS look at that. I used to be a big PETA supporter and everything, but hell the propaganda goes too far. I'm out.
emwx3 4 years ago
OMG FUCK PETA. We put the sick animals in the back because why the fuck would we want the other animals to get sick? Why would we want customers to see a dead or sick animal? I work at PetSmart.
emwx3 4 years ago
Okay, this is exaggerated. I worked at PetSmart as a Lead Pet Care Specialist. First off, yes, some animals came in sick. The shipping process is stressful. We sent hamsters and other small animals to the VET, at a cost that was WAY beyond what they were going to sell for. The animals in the back were returned from the vet with medicines and instructions for 1 week before going out on the sale floor. I took my job VERY seriously. Our bettas didn't come in little bags, either.
woodsmoke 4 years ago

Shame there isn't any better one that's big :/
lovelyLatias 4 years ago
That message that you mention "where pets are family, we're the family doctor" is actually Banfield's Pet Hospital's commercial, not Petsmarts. Hamsters get wet tail. It happens. They normally get it because of stress. When they do get it, at least at my store we do the best to help them in their recovery.
lordblackcat88 4 years ago
This is a whole lot of BS. I am a Pet Care Specialist and I've never seen any of this. The public knows about the back room or sick room, it's not a "secret." That's where we take all of the animals that get sick on the floor and help them in their recovery. We do not serve as vets and we do not give medical advice, our qualified pets at Banfield examine every animal and we simply give the animals their medications as if we were their owners.
lordblackcat88 4 years ago
I work at PetsMart. This is bullshit. Pet specialist do not equal vets. They take care of the animals. That's why Banfield is in the store and take care of the animals when they are sick. The sick room is filled with animals that ppl didn't want and have to be quaratined for a week. Go to petakillsanimals and see the real truth. Peta kills more fucking animals than a fucking hunter.
Down with the stupid shit.

VTECsqznN2O 4 years ago
It was this person's responsiblity 2 take care of these animals, obviously she wasn't doin her job. PM puts animal in2 a "sick room" 2 treat 'em n avoid infectin other animals. It is the petcare assosciates duties 2 clean animal cages, 2 clean water dishes twice daily n provide fresh veggies. If these animals R taken care of by good associates, they end up in good homes. Also, PM adopts out more than a 1000 dogs n cats a yr unlike PETA who ends up puttin down more than half of their animals.
sacrament19 4 years ago
Im not a big animal lover or at least big enough to join peta cause i like to eat meat but this stuff propably does happen at some pet smarts ,all people like us can do is just buy the animals and give them good care are do our best to work there as a specialist to make sure they get good care, but I must say why arent people this enthusiastic about saving children in africa, and other third world countries where children die every day cause they cant get any good water or food.
owlmein 4 years ago
yea uh just because one petsmart is bad doesnt mean they all are petsmart doesnt even sell "feeder" mice, but at petco(where i work) we do, but we take the best care possible of our animals, we try our best but u have a few deaths i really dont apprciate this video. help an endangered species or sumthin.
cougar9905 4 years ago

Get your priorities straight!

oh and for the record, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to administer meds to an animal.....a 5 year old could do it...you dont have to be a vet to give medicine, nor does it make someone a vet..... i hope this prissy little girl ( for lack of a better word i cant say on here) got a sick ass law suit for slander
RavensGrl 4 years ago
and the golfish shown are feeders....theyre not bred for quality, therefore dont have a long lifespan anyway, although its possible to raise one up....the bettas, well, those are naturally found in puddles in asia....theyre used to sm amounts of water... i think they need to do a little more research on theyre crap, and maybe focus on bigger problems in the world with animals....
RavensGrl 4 years ago
Actually, maybe you should do a bit of research. Betta fish are NOT found in puddles in Asia. They live in rice paddies that are flooded in the rainy season and slowly dry up. Bettas have adapted to survive in shallow water, but will not thrive in a cup. Just because a betta can live in horrific conditions doesn't mean it should have to. A person can live their whole life locked in a closet, but should they?
Skasis 4 years ago
Cont from my other comment [darn 500 character rule >:O]
No. And while I don't particularly agree with this video, I do agree with the girl on that one regard.
Also, just because the goldfish are feeders, that means they shouldn't be treated well? That makes a whole lot of sense right there.
Skasis 4 years ago
abotu the fedder fish its bad to treat those bad cause when they live in bad conditions then someone buys them and feeds them to bigger fish and then the bigger fish gets sick,so they should really take more care in keeping the feeders healthy
owlmein 4 years ago
You shouldn't be feeding pet fish more feeder fish to begin with. A pet fishes diet needs to be 10% live fish. Now you can just feed them freeze dried.
sacrament19 4 years ago
you got me all wrong I dont like to feed my oscars live fish(I just feed them flake food) Im just jaying that for people who do feed them live fish, cause I think its just wrong but I do feed them insects like the flies that come in the house, is that good or bad for the fish?
owlmein 4 years ago
It really depends. I mean, if it was my fish, I wouldn't. Only because I don't know where the insects have been. The insects could have parasites or small amounts of insectacides. Some people do buy fruit flies for this fish though.

I know MANY if not a majority of the major pet stores do do animal cruelty. its not all of them.

i totally agree with u, i've worked at both petco and petsmart as a animal spec. and yes behind the scenes in there so called wellness rooms they do mistreat there animals, and yes the freezers are stuffed with dead animals, its very sad, but what do you expect from a major cooperation, all they care about is money, so very sad.
tigerking270 4 years ago
dose every petsmart do this u would of thought they would have been closed down by now
Emma321 4 years ago
oh bollocks, the comment was too long. I AM GLAD THAT PETA WENT UNDERCOVER IN PETS AT HOME!

you know i kill al rodents so this doesn't make me feel bad in fact I give petsmart credit for giving me some time off
Joshtwitty76 4 years ago
O_o reminds me of the time we had a rodent infestation at my old garage. We put sticky paper with peanut butter, and my dad and i would then release them to the field not even a mile away. We only had about three die because we didn't release them in time.
lovelyLatias 4 years ago
I see that you only did your studies on hamsters..u said stuff about the birds, but no proof. Hamsters are probobly the animal that is most prone to disease and premature death that is at petsmart. no kidding some are gonna die. i gotta back up petsmart on this one.
wow must be shorter than 500 characters :P
analnathrak 4 years ago
all your really doing is acting like you make a difference. U know what u really need to do PETA? go to china and stop all those dirty communists from skinning animals alive. is that out of your league PETA? ive bought 2 hamsters that both live well over a year and died of natural causes, never sick one time.
analnathrak 4 years ago
"stop shopping at petsmart untill it stops the sale of all animals"
LOL i just find that to sound very retarted. if u didnt notice, pet stores sell animals.
PETA, you guys are losers. every single one of your are loser kids that got beat up in highschool that "want to make a difference"
analnathrak 4 years ago
This is fucking stupid. I work for PetSmart. PETA stupid fucks are just so one-sided that they want you to boycott EVERYTHING that has to do with animals that aren't in the wild. Of course animals die at PetSmart! We have about 50 small animals in our store, and one dies every few days. Animals that are sick are kept in isolation because they can get the healthy animals sick. If a five dollar rat gets sick, it goes to the vet where we spend hundreds of dollars on it.
rajevichj 4 years ago
Lushes05 4 years ago
As a Pet Smart employee I know what goes on in these stores. 99 % of the stores are not like that. Most of those i have worked at would rather spend 500 dollars to save the life of a 10 dollar rat.
CrackerJack221 4 years ago
you should have reported this stuff to you DM or your RM, since your store manager didnt seem to care. Also the fridge is strictly forbidden to put animals in. Again a matter that you should have reported. By not doing this one could assume that you were letting these animals die just to better yourself.
CrackerJack221 4 years ago
fuck peta! they kill animals and lie!

Yes. they most certainly do. I'm beginning to think that Ingrid Newkirk is the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler.

o ya and i didnt mean there checked daily i meant there checked multiple times daily
chooseatrandom 4 years ago
k, i work at petsmart, and the reason we bring the animals to the back is because they need special care, and there given it in a isolated enviroment were there checked on daily. as far as them eating each other over no room is wrong, they do that when a animal is dead or dying. alot of animals will do this. though the commet fish are over crowded thats one thing i hate, but other than that all the animals are well taken care of, u may have just got a haggard petsmart
chooseatrandom 4 years ago
Well my petsmart is quite good for the fish. i buy some of the fish from them. I did have 2 hamsters that lived 3 years from them. And the only crowed tank is the fedder tank. The store im against to is WAlmart. They are just horroble. The ploblem is the workers and care , not the store. I once fought for a piece of driwft wood from a low idiot working in Petco,(petco has a better way for the bettas)
Vampiredagon 4 years ago
I also must add that although the other pet stores in the area are much more awful I have had a couple problems with the local Petsmart besides the sick guinea pig. A rat I had got from another pet store was pregnant (big surprise :p) and when I had told one of the people at Petsmart she said "Well, you could always freeze the babies. I know it sounds harsh but they won't feel it". Obviously I didn't freeze them but I was a bit shocked by the comment.
Nova5202 4 years ago
Firstly, PeTA is a cult of lunatics. People would be better off supporting better animal support groups. Secondly, my husband and I go to Petsmart often and all the rats we got there were in very good condition BUT the one guinea pig we got there had scurvy and died a week later. However, compared to the other pet stores around here Petsmart is MUCH better than them.
Nova5202 4 years ago
What the hell...
It seems Petsmart didn't give you the paycheck or what?
XDXD

I happen to work at a PetSmart. While this may happen at a few stores (and I don't condone it), at the store I work at, we take very good care of our animals. Our pet care specialists are some of the most dedicated workers at our store, and our managers would not tolerate this.
seamusisorange 4 years ago
There's a difference between hidden and isolated from the majority of the animals, which are healthy. I work in a petsmart, and our store is not like this. If an animal is sick, it goes to the vet. Period. This is sensationalist, because any pet store with employees who don't care enough will have losses like that, privately owned or corporate.
I've been there two years. I am still sad when an animal dies.
pirateyourmomface 4 years ago
I work at PetSmart, and yes a lot of small animals get wet tail, but with well trained associates who are dedicated to the job, they can survive, they just need proper care. From what I saw, versus what I see everyday at work, the stores you worked at should be individually reported to the DSM because they are not meeting the P&P's by the looks of it. And another things, you should know that cell phone's are not allowed on the floor when you are on the clock working :)
koolsexiboi 4 years ago
...WOW...PETA's works again....I will get PETA!!!!!
Jetixhater 4 years ago
I work at PetSmart and you cant treat every animal perfectly and take care of everyone to make sure they all live that would cost tons of money. This is way to biased to be truthful. Plus this is coming from PETA which means that they really want PetSmart to close down because they dont beleive that any animals should be domesticated or used by humans. They think that people are equal to animals and thats the disgusting part.
cookiexcmonster 4 years ago
People are animals and if some one chooses to take in the pets they should take kare of them and have the money to

I know you are upset, but instead of bitching, how about educating yourself and others, and working more towards fixing the problem, not being part of it.
cyberferet 4 years ago
And at one point, you hold up a bag of fish. The blue water means it came from the breeder. That's not even the store's fault! Also, did you read on Betta fish? They live in puddles found in rice plains. The bagged ones are sedated from the breeder. They like smaller places to not only feel safe, but to breathe easier. Betta's need air, not just water, as they have a labyrinth; they breathe from water and air.
cyberferet 4 years ago
Skasis 4 years ago
Cont'd from my previous comment because of the 500 character limit.
HOWEVER. The rice paddies rarely end up as mere puddles, and if they did, the bettas would die. The rice paddies also have rivers/streams/some sort of flowing water running through them that ensures that the betta has a constant supply of CLEAN water. The plants growing in the water also helps contribute to the cleaning of the water. They are not forced to live in their own filth, in little cups.
Skasis 4 years ago
Cont'd AGAIN. UGH.
Skasis 4 years ago
I've worked for both PetSmart and PetCo now, and I can tell you that things like this happen everywhere. I know its sad, but it happens. There are people who care very much for animals working at both chains, and yes, some who don't. That's why the people who DO need to do their damn job and put the camera down. Death rates are NEVER that high unless there is fowl play, idiocy, or in this case, both.

those poor lil babies im getting a rat tommorrow from them as a pet NOT for feeding
cooldude1230 4 years ago
whoever uploaded this horrible video . Must be someone who loves to see animals dying everyday . Sadistic bitch
nekoluverxx 4 years ago
The sick animals are put in their own room not just to hide them from the public eye, but so that THE OTHER ANIMALS WON'T GET SICK! I thought that was common sense? Ridiculous. Who cares if Petsmart encourages adoptions than to sell dogs and cats, right? Nooo, when hamsters get their wet tail, a very COMMON occurrence, the petsmart's evil. As I said, RIDICULOUS.
phinlin 4 years ago
then they should take care of the animals ok they wouldnt need to be hidden if the stores took care of them
wavejammer94 4 years ago
Ok i just want to say somthing, petsmart and petco and very bad stores to shop at. I'm a reptile guy and when i go in there they call the animals the wrong thing, like they dont know what it is. You are all retarted and obviously dont care about animals suffering. I know this is true, EVERYTHING she said and showed is exactly how it is. they care about money, not pets. fuck heads
discjockeydj17 4 years ago
have you worked for petsmart? if you had you would know that this girl was doing just about everything that is against petsmart policy.
CrackerJack221 4 years ago
aumf25, you are nothing but a low-down dirty scumbag with obviously little else to live for.

Rodents die?? Alert the press! They're diseased and filthy animals, of course they die like that and then eat each other.
blp2021 4 years ago
filthy? LMAO i've owned a number of rodents, and they are everything but filthy. They groom themselves regularly like any other clean animal. diseased? Well the wild ones are, but i don't know about the kind you get from the pet store, but after everything I've heard pet stores are either very clean & innocent, or very filthy and evil XP
lovelyLatias 4 years ago
I can't wait until PETA is considered a terrorist group. This video would have a point if it protreyed a single fact, not miscronstrued.
TwiceWritten 4 years ago
I too work at PetSmart and this is really funny how this girl makes things over te oridanary!! I bet she didn't even take care of them when they were in our care just so she could get the video of her dead animals!! It's very sad that this girl had enough time to videotape everything that goes wrong but while she is doing this is she even taking care of the pets?? Thats just my view on the whole thing
ilovemisha 4 years ago
This is crap... plain and simple... but PETA is a crap-hatcher (look at the Mcdonalds they have vandalized with cow crap...) so this comes as no surprise... everyone should unite together and say to PETA the ACLU and all other communist organizations "In the immortal words of WOW.... /ignore"
carneviler 4 years ago
you should kill yourself right now u lying hippie bitch.
r0by24 4 years ago
when you sell a large number of animals or pets then you are going to get a percentage that will die that is nature it will allways happen as usal peta like to paint a bad pic .they dont tell you about them selves taking pet animals from the public and saying dont worry we will find them good homes then putting them all to sleep ? and no i dont work for any pet smart , but i hate it when peta dosnt tell the whole story ,
staffer11 4 years ago
You're kidding me! I work at Petsmart. What is shown is that hamsters die, and they do. Hamsters have cannibalistic tendencies, if you didn't know. Also, most of the deaths are due to wet-tail (diarrhea) which all rodents are sensitive to and not all survive. I honestly do hate PETA. We care for the animals very much, take them to vets, and treat them when necessary.
invisibleman6 4 years ago
Wow that looks very staged. I hate peta and I really want this girl to get punched in the face. She should start worrying about all the humans dying in the world then a hamster which actually is extinct in the wild. Dumb bitch
